For what it's worth, I attended on Sunday, which was my first visit to any sort of musical show, so it's just first impressions. The noise did get pretty loud at times, despite the efforts of "klaxon man", but it wouldn't deter me going again. If you are genuinely testing a prospective purchase you do need to properly test the product, but that can't be achieved if everybody is doing it at the same time in a relatively small room. It's separating the prospective purchasers from the egotists which is the problem, and I don't have the answer. Ideally it should be fairly simple for the trade stand managers to monitor sound levels and who is going over the top. Anyway, I enjoyed the whole experience, particularly the chat session with Peter Hook, who came across really well. I also listened to Jonas Hellborg in the concert hall which was interesting. Briefly visited the Bass Chat stand which always seemed to be busy, thanks for the lanyard Ladies! The catering was OK, and I didn't think any more expensive than Starbucks in the motorway services on my return to Bournemouth, so much as expected. I made a few minor purchases, am no longer in the market for new basses or amps, but it's good to see in the flesh what is around at the moment. All in all, I enjoyed the event, and would definitely go again. How about a Bass Chat stand to sell secondhand gear, at £20 a display? Uh, I thought not!!! Cheers, Graham

I'm staggered that only 4% of market place users make a donation, if Basschat wasn't here it'd be e bay, and don't get me started on that! £20 a year is fine by me - I'll save money!! Graham

Welcome to the world of Basschat, good luck with the bass. Graham, Bournemouth.
Are those the ones with 15 frets or something?
Hi Pete, yup that's the one. There's one in lovely original condition I basses for sale up for 2,500 euros - from Holland - from a newbie though! It's 15 or possibly 18 frets, originally e a d g c, but many, including mine, are now b e a d g. Will post a pic when I get back off holiday. Graham -

Just thought I'd throw in my five eggs here. A lot of really interesting comments and advice above. I switched to fives in 1972 and have played a four once since then, and made a mess of it (playing the four that is). I find I don't use the G string as much as the B unlike others above. I've been in blues bands for a good many years so playing riffs in E from the fifth fret is great, as I don't like open string notes. The Greek has picked up my dream bass there, as I have a LG3005 and love it, possibly the best sounding bass I own, but looks a bit odd on me because I'm pretty tall, and it is a small body. Stick with the heavier strings and just listen to that great B string I'd suggest. If you want a wide flat necked fiver try one of the new Reverend Mercalli 5's - a real thumper! What a great site this is. Graham -
Hi, I've just replaced the tuners on my Zon, so I have a working set of five Schaller M5B 1660 (pt no 234495) tuners and fixing screws. I would say in very good nick. I only changed them because I wanted a shiny new set - sorry I'm just like that! Comprises three left (bass) and two right (treble), with a single screw hole - see diagram. Suggest a fair price is £40 plus say £2 for postage. I can post up to Saturday this week, then I'm away next week, so don't expect a response between 17th and 22nd February. See pics below. Thanks, Graham

Hi, I picked this wonderful bit of kit up in a trade recently and find that it offers far more than I need (basically I'm only using the tuner and compressor)! So this should go to a good home. Picture 1 is from a web site to show you exactly what you're getting, the others are to show the Gator padded bag, comprehensive instructions, etc. Sorry the pics are a bit crummy. In excellent condition and working order, and with all necessary leads (mains and usb). Looking for £200 plus carriage. Any more info, please message me. Thanks, Graham

Really surprised to see these for sale. I had a black five string which I traded on here, and whilst I love the Modulus Sweet Spot I got for it, I really miss the Bolin. Not mentioned above is the fact that they feel very light and certainly don't feel like you're playing a 35" scale bass. Good luck with the sale, somebody snap one of these up!

Sorry, only just got back to this. Walbassist, no, the refinish was done by someone in Shaftesbury, not a great job unfortunately. Mind you it started life as metallic blue and has since been every other since then. And Bob, above, I only have the bridge chrome cover with the large "F". Always had a problem finding a case to fit due to the length of the body, including the protruding neck joint. Am using a fairly basic teardrop case which fits it perfectly. By the way, mine isn't for sale. Cheers Graham

1966 Fender 5string Jazz/Jaguar/Jazzmaster
graham1945 replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Hi Mick, it's me again. I actually have one of these (since 1972). No problems with changing strings to beadg, I've had it stringed this way for about 30 years. I have a bartolini mm type bridge pickup and a bartolini p bass pickup in the neck position. I've read many times that there were only around 200 made, but I have a Fender vintage book which suggests that there were more like 1,000. They do come up fairly regularly and go for around £2,000 in original condition. Unfortunately what you get for that is a pretty sub standard pickup. I love playing mine, they look a bit odd and are not light and suffer a bit of neck dive, but I love it! I've put a pic of mine somewhere on here, just search Fender Bass V. Cheers Graham -
