2. My son one used one back in 1995 on a fretless he built. Fantastic woody tone and absolutely ideal straight into an ampeg V4BH (no tone or volume control on the bass itself!). Oh, the other bit is that it is mounted in the preEBMM Stingray sweetspot. Hope it helps
3.
I play for pleasure at home with an occasional get together with mates of similar age & ilk. Went through many bands - many years ago Self taught since about '64, always picked up tunes by ear, Kaz is still amazed when I hear a song on the radio, grab a bass & start playing along, then when it stops I'll usually carry on with a bit of extra freestyle thrown in! It's not just me is it? Cheerz, John
No John, it's not just you - sounds like me as well. Playing in one and a half bands at the moment, just noodle around at home playing along with records, occassional jam and recording session with the locals. Groove, space and fun is what it's about, I fink.

5. I'm in - dependent on the date which hopefully doesn't clash with a gig.
6. Thanks a million - that has made my month.
7. Just got Mr. Bruces biography and this pic. of him with Graham Bond (1965ish?) is in it. Can anyone identify the bass he's got here, please?
8. Brilliant - that chord has always stood the hairs up on the back of my neck since the day the record was released. Forget the name of the chord, who devised, built the bloody thing and recorded it like that in the first place? - That's the genius of it IMHO.
9. First six chords intro to "The Wind Cries Mary" - Hendrix. Intro to "21st Schizoid Man" - King Crimson. The latter I heard as a playback from the finished master in the studio where it had just been recorded. We, in our band, looked at each other and all had the same thought - "Time to f@*k off home and forget about recording our stuff"
10. Interesting to see the amps graphic set up in the programme - exact opposite of MOR/AOR modern scoopped poo! A sound with much more bollocks than this modern stuff, innit?
11.
A WAL with a Warwick neck? Sure it wasn't his Cream Reunion bass??
The red one on the sofa? It's his Survivor bass made specially for him by Warwick. Apparently made from some very rare 1960s mahogany according to a mate of mine.
12. I really enjoyed that great music, basses and everything (and I'm pleased to see that Ginger is still a Grumpy Old Man).
13.
* A drummer who plays the groove through the changes, rather than playing a full-on 4 beat fill every four bars * A singer who knows what the words mean and delivers a performance rather than a recitation of the lyrics * A guitarist who plays a solo for the song's benefit rather than his own. And uses fragmented chords rather than full barres. * A harp player who knows more than one position * A bass player who's happy to play roots, doesn't put a climb into every change and a descent into every turnaround * A band that treats each number as a song in its own right, supports the lyrical meaning, shuns virtuosity and aims for danceability. * Dead stops. Especially the tricky ones you can't just count, but where you have to be cued by the singer.
Skank, this says it all. Thank You,
14. I'm bemused and I suspect that if he appeared on one todays so called talent shows the kids wouldn't know what hit them.
15. Yeah - 'sgreat innit? but you can get BBC2 Scotland on Freesat and later on BBC iPlayer. I'm gonna watch it on all three coz I have no recorder........
16. BBC2 Scotland tomorrow night 21.00hrs programme on Jack Bruce
17.
I think they must have a silent alarm behind the counter that signals the presence of obvious northerners!
No - the alarm signals that a person is present. The Gallery is great - be nice and you might get a cup of tea.

Blues?

For starters: Howlin' Wolf Muddy Waters Little Walter Buddy Guy with Junior Wells Bo Diddley Anything with Willie Dixon involvement Any of the Chess and Checker label stuff 1960s BB King (Blues Is King live album with Louis Satterfield on bass) Freddie King For the Brits: John Mayall with Clapton / Peter Green / Mick Taylor~ John MacVie on bass - bloody wonderful and highly underated imo. Early Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green~ John MacVie on bass - bloody wonderful and highly underated imo. Early Savoy Brown Blues Band. Early Chicken Shack You'll discover that although a lot is 12 bar, there are a lot of one chord/multi chord stuff with loads of groovin' rhythmns about which can be great fun to play. And as far as I'm concerned you can keep your Gary Moores and SRVs and their clones.......................
19.
Probably around $50,000. Edit: One for $40,000 here... http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ebb366b5a
Ed Zachary........ because the guitar was made from scratch by master luthier Tony Zemaitis and not someone who took a an old guitar to a superb craftsman for an "upgrade". Why didn't the client buy an original Zemaitis, Greco Zemaitis or Alden Zalike instead? Each to his own, I suppose...............
20. Personally, I wouldn't mess with a Fender but I would and have built my own FenderAlike bitzas so I didn't begger up a real one, whatever it's age. Usually works out cheaper in the long run, too.
21.
I don't mind it. From what the guy says, it had been wrecked by someone who had tried to do it by sticking plastic triangles to it and wanted it done properly... It sounds like a previous owner had tried to make it look like a Zemaitis... Never been done before?
And how much is that Zemaitis worth, I wonder, if it's for sale?
22.
There's Crack Converters just down from the church Cash Creators (Which has a nice Pre-CBS Mustang bass in the window for £799 - is this a bargain?)
If it is original and in reasonable nick, yes.
23. Interesting thread, but can I give another perspective and name names........................ I stress I have no affiliations or vested interests only a superb experience to relate. In 2005 I sold off a load of my gear to invest in one really good playable guitar. Having acrued a reasonable sum I then started to look around for what I wanted and ended up in a shop about a 2 hour drive from home. I was left in peace whilst browsing and when I asked to try a particular guitar it was taken off the wall, checked over and cleaned off by the staff and I was installed, on my own, in the amp room with the door shut and allowed to play the guitar through any amp I wanted. 10 minutes later I had made up my mind to purchase and asked to do so. The guitar was taken from me, thoroughly checked over again by the owner of the shop, cleaned again and to my astonishment the truss rod was tweaked to "suit my playing style" all this whilst a mug of much needed tea was produced for me along with a lot of good natured banter from the staff. As I was about to leave I was also offered a special amp at a good price. I tried the amp , did the deal and returned with funds the following week to collect it and subsequently bought a second much cheaper guitar at the same time. The shop was Machine Head Music in Hitchin and the owner was Geoff Pumfritt who retired a few months later. He is now out of retirement and running a wonderful shop in Stonehouse, Glos. I have never experienced such amazing customer service before or since and I would recommmend anyone to try him just to prove that there are a lot of good'ns still out there.
