1. Could have just used pictures. Can't be bothered mucking about with stupid video clips.
2. Good and bad news: Good news: nitro lacquer arrived. Hagstrom headstock logo arrived from Sweden. Bad news: they sent a NECKPLATE instead of a JACKPLATE. Arrrrrgh! How frustrating! However, it won't hold up the works too much. I'll be spraying/curing lacquer while I sort out the neckplate/jackplate confusion. Still, arrrrgh!
3.
did you sign him up for basschat too?
I did include a link to this thread, so you never know...
4. I think we succeeded: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...97&frm=1883
5. I'm planning out my first neck made from scratch (and body for that matter) and I'm looking for advice about dimensions. I have quite small hands, but quite long fingers. I sometimes find 34" scale a bit of a stretch. However, going down to 30" seems a bit much. Is 32" a good compromise? How will this affect string tensions, tone etc? For the long fingers, I'm thinking of going with a P-bass nut width (1.625") rather than a Jazz. What would the width at the heel be, assuming I make quite a traditional, say 20 fret neck? To keep things fairly familiar feeling, I'm thinking of sticking with the standard P fretboard radius of 9.5". Is my logic correct here, or am I barking up the wrong tree? I'm going to use walnut for the neck wood. Strong enough? What are people's thoughts on laminating? I have enough wood to make a 1 piece, but is it worth laminating with something else for added strength?
6.
how can we do that?
As soon as it ends, the winner will be revealed because the scammer hasn't done the usual and made it a private auction. If you're going to message the winner, do it right away. It'll take a while to get a cheque/postal order/bank transfer together. No point in messaging the seller of your suspicions, you'll get zip all reply. Ask for more photos - silence or "it's already packaged up". Ask for serial numbers - silence or see previous answer. Ask for local pickup/cash on delivery/look before you buy - silence. THIS IS BECAUSE THERE IS NO BASS TO SHOW YOU/COLLECT. Ask for bank transfer details or offering a BIN price - all over you like a rash.
7. Well, 9 hours to go and I've received the standard autoreply from eBay yada yada we'll consider circumstances yada yada privacy yada yada chances are we'll do naff all. Come on eBay, it's a clear fraud and as it stands this morning, someone's going to be down £820 because of your inaction.

9. First played - an Encore P-bass copy First owned - an Epiphone EB-3
10. That old favourite "Peaches" by The Stranglers. Saw an Epiphone EB-3 in the local music shop, fell in love, went home, worked out the riff on the low strings of a guitar then went back to the shop to try it out
11. Something a little different for the build diaries forum, looking good so far!

13.
Wev'e had a few Pages not responding lately. whats going on.
The links are broken. The forum has truncated long ones with ... in the middle of them. Trouble is, that's also become the link itself. I'd advise people to A) test their links when they preview their posts and post the eBay item numbers along with links so that if the links do get stuffed for whatever reason or eBay gets the hump, you can still search for the items.
14. Well, he negs anyone who has the audacity to leave neutral feedback, and leaves terse, rude statements about the volume of email he gets on positives! Sounds like an utter crackpot to me. He wants 400 for that butchered Ripper, the man is clearly insane
15.
Its not a bass, but I was thinking of buying this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1984-IBANEZ-ROADSTAR...1QQcmdZViewItem I have a soft spot for them. Unfortunately, its from the dreaded Music-Outlet-Shop and is a little overpriced. I don't mind paying, as its still a bargain in my eyes for what it is, but has anyone been brave enough to actually buy from this guy before? Any horror stories?
Just make sure you don't leave him any "FOUL FEEDBACK" because it "WILL BE RETURNED!!!!"
16. Thanks for the encouragement guys. It's a shame I'm not getting to keep this one, the neck is so fast and slim it's unreal. It's so thin I was scared I would sand through it It's also got me thinking that I should get some short scale action into my bass diet. Y'know, for variety.
17.
hi there, i have a harley benton accoustic, which i got via thomman, and for the price it s amazing. the problem i v got is the e string , its much quieter than the others, which i think may be due to some pickup prob, but i cant get at anything, and there s no string adgustment etc. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix the prob. cheers, jimmy.
Don't know much about how to deal with acoustic pickups. It sounds like you acquired it recently and if so then it's under warranty - so I'd give Thomann a shout and explain your problems to them rather than trying to do anything with it yourself. I think they're pretty good at dealing with problems.
18. Smooth and ready for finishing: I've ordered some cans of nitrocellulose lacquer for the finish (from Manchester Guitar Tech, after I was impressed with pictures of the results that customers were getting) and I finally managed to get hold of a guy in Sweden who could supply me with a couple of missing parts which are very difficult to get hold of (jack plate and a waterslide Hagstrom logo for the headstock). Getting closer...

20.
Yup! We've touched on this subject before. His crazy prices and persistent presence means that, every month or two, someone stumbles across him for the first time and posts a link on some message board or other. As a form of cheap advertising, and one that's almost guarantee to get straight to his target audience, it's hard to beat. And it's actually being done for him by people who think they're laughing at him ... At those prices, he doesn't need to make many sales for the whole thing to be very profitable!
I contacted him and offered to take that butchered Ripper off his hands for considerably less than he wants (I have this strange compulsion to fix it - probably cut the sides off and put on new ones on like a thru neck) but I didn't get a reply. It's probably the most talked about bass on eBay so that would explain his reluctance.
21. Got both set and bolt on necks, can see the merits and drawbacks in both, don't have enough playing experience to tell differences sonically. There is something elegant about an invisible (or nonexistent) neck joint. Yet to get my hands on a neck thru, but no doubt I'll sort that one day (even if I end up building it myself )
