1. OK, it's being dismantled. Withdrawn from sale.
2. Your interest is noted, a good excuse for a bump
3. We're kinda snookered with the weather up here at the moment. It's no climate to be spraying basses in, that's for sure. Double bummer, as Rich put up a shed, thinking he could carry on with normal November weather. Yesterday, just to feel like I've done something to move the thing on, I took the protective film off the pickguard and fitted those washers/position indicators. All things being well, this should be good to go when the time comes, save for reattaching the bridge earth wire. Curse you, weather!
4. Hmm, nearly 600 views, lots of listens (is my playing that bad? ), I think the marketplace has spoken. This is getting parted out next week, probably on Monday.
5. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
6. It's a little more scuffed on the sides than I remembered. Price reduced accordingly to £25 posted.
7. Pictures soon bump (ran out of steam after recording sound clips )
8. For sale is a bass I put together from a body/neck I got from eBay and parts I collected up to put this together. This is the only pic I have to hand, but I'll get some better ones up (and hopefully some soundclips) soon: The skinny: Body: Unknown woods - nice bookmatched top on a lighter, plain wood. Shellac (french polish) finish. Neck: 20 fret maple/rosewood, P width. Shellac (french polish) finish. Hardware: Hipshot: Ultralite tuners, string retainer, A-style bridge (string through or top load) Neck pickup: Seymour Duncan Alnico MM Bridge pickup: Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound Jazz EQ: Artec SE-2 2 band EQ Controls: Volume, Treble, Bass, Blend, series/single/parallel switch for MM pickup Things you should know: Whoever had it before me thought it would be a right good idea to glue the neck in, even though it's a bolt on. No shims for you then. There are several holes in the back of the headstock where various tuners have been installed. I put this together before I even knew what I really wanted from a bass and as such I rarely play it these days. I am feeling a little skint, so I can't afford to be sentimental about it, despite my wife's warnings that I'll regret selling it. If it doesn't sell then I'll be breaking it up for parts, but if you want to save it from that fate (or at least save me from doing the breaking up - what you do with it after you buy it is none of my business ) then I'd like £200 all in for this. Sound clips: Jazz pup, EQ flat MM pup (series), EQ flat MM pup (single coil), EQ flat MM pup (parallel), EQ flat both pups (MM series), EQ flat both pups (MM single coil), EQ flat both pups (MM parallel), EQ flat Jazz pup, max treble, min bass Jazz pup, min treble, max bass MM pup (series), max treble, min bass MM pup (series), min treble, max bass MM pup (single coil), max treble, min bass MM pup (single coil), min treble, max bass MM pup (parallel), max treble, min bass MM pup (parallel), min treble, max bass - something different to the above file I think it was both pups (parallel) flat EQ
9.
I have all three being discussed here - a pre-CBS Precision, a pre-EB Stingray and pre-BBE G&L Asat Bass. ... I can't rate G&Ls highly enough, due to quality and sound not marketing. I also hope they remain a musicians' secret so the tourists don't start collecting them and putting them out of reach of the pocket of us mere mortals.
THE FOLLOWING TEXT REPRESENTS MY OPINION, NOT FACT: The perpetuating of the ridiculous "pre-whatever company came in and messed things up in my (attempt to influence popular) opinion" nomenclature will not help. While CBS arguably dropped the ball a bit in terms of quality control, this pre-EB and pre-BBE nonsense is just bandwagon jumping ridiculousness perpetrated by people wishing to see an artificial inflation of prices based upon something completely arbitrary (being the ownership of a company) and trying to make out that their older instrument is somehow superior because of this. The value of "pre-Volkswagen" Skodas must be going through the roof by that logic. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
10. With the help of Rich I got the correct pot fitted and the licorice allsort knob back on. The 1Meg tone pot is an unusual choice, it's basically on/off, the only appreciable differences happen in the last quarter of travel. Oh well, that's what it's supposed to be, I might experiment with other caps and/or resistors to see if I can improve things. I said I'd do some sound clips, so here they are. Usual apologies for the standard of playing and the boringness of the content. I'm not going to blow smoke up you and tell you this bass can ape a Precision or a Jazz or a whatever, I get really tired of all these proclamations. Listen and judge for yourself. Tone at max Tone at min
11. I sold Mart a set of TI Jazz flats - a smooth, easy transaction with a prompt payer, can't ask for more than that.
12.
jazz bass , treating each coil as neck or bridge pick up?
Effectively, yes.
13. If I remember correctly, OLPs are VVT - there's a volume control for each coil in the humbucker and a single tone control.
14. The lightest bass I have in my current arsenal is the Danelectro Hodad. Any Danelectro will be light - they're masonite (hardboard) top and back on a plywood frame A surprisingly light bass from my past was the Traben Chaos. I had the Attack version.
15. Could fit a Schaller M4S - check the technical diagram here: http://bass-machine-heads.com/hp135297/Bas...d8cX7b65#tab_tz I'll see if I have a photo of the back of the headstock of my Gibson Victory Artist, it uses Gibson branded M4S tuners. EDIT: there you go:
16. Because I mostly buy second hand basses, I only change the strings if they're no good.
17. For sale is a set of TI Jazz flats which I haven't played much, a couple of hours tops. Unfortunately they were cut for a 2 + 2 headstock so they won't fit a 4 in line headstock. I did leave a lot of wraps on the D string so they should fit a 3 + 1 arrangement a la Stingray, but I'll give you the measurements here: E string - ball to silk 37" total length 43" A string - ball to silk 37.5" total length 46" D string - ball to silk 37.5" total length 45.5" G string - ball to silk 37.5" total length 41.875" The gauges are 43, 56, 70, 100 I could keep a hold of them and throw them in a drawer until I get bitten by the flatwound bug again but I could do with realising some funds and it's better if they go to someone who'll use them. They're around £35 new, so how about £15 posted? An inexpensive way of getting a set of flatwound strings - if they fit your bass!
