1. I should try putting the price up as well. You'll be well aware of what you paid for that. I paid that price for my fretless four string last year, new!
2. That will be a bass worth adding to your armory Nick. Is it a 4 or 5 string? I really should stop looking at these posts. It just makes me want even more basses.
3. Thanks for the replies guys. So it would be OK to run my Acoustic Image Contra out into a 15", 8 ohm cab. The AI site states that the amps detect different impedences down to 2 ohms. The internal speakers are 4ohms. Ta!
4. The KB2 looks good as a fiver. The extra string fills out the body a bit more. That design grows on me all the time.
5. That looks nice. Simple but I bet it does a great job with the Status neck.
6. Sibob doesn't make girlfriends, but if he did they'd probably be the best girlfriends in the world.
7. Plenty of players seem to think highly of the K&K. I had a similar problem with fit on the bridge wings with my Shadow. I used some thin card and now have a good fit and great sound. Others recommend using some thin shims of wood. All I can say is I get a great sound with the card I used.
8. Try sending a private message from his/her profile page in the members section.
9. Can anyone explain how speaker resitance works in layman's terms. Will an 8 ohm speaker work with an amp that fires into a 4 ohm speaker. It all just baffles me.
10. I seem to remember that Mike Rutherford used one on the Genesis song 'That's All' too.
11. I think you have to look at EUB as a separate instrument. It is never going to sound like a DB as an EB with a bridge pickup doesn't get close either. There are some high end models that get pretty close though but they usually have an acoustic element to them. A DB with a good setup just can't be beaten for sound but they can be a problem in a tight space at a gig. You'll have to buy a pickup as well which could set you back another £100 for a good one and I wouldn't go for anything less if you want a good sound.
12. I love the sound of the soap bar pickups but what grabs me most about Status instruments is the neck. It just suits my hand so well and it was the one thing that I never forgot after first trying one in 1987. Sound wise I have different settings for fretless and fretted. Fretless is biased towards the bridge pickup but S1000 fretted is more biased towards the neck pickup. Having said that the bias is just either side of the centre point. It's the crystal clear hifiish sound I like. Lots of zing from new strings on the S1000. I like a fatter sound on played in strings on the fretless but there is still that Status click when the string hits the board.
13.
BassBus, your highly polished 1000 is looking really good - Still not quite as stunning as 'Miss Maple', though Some fantastic basses tonight, guys. Thanks for sharing! Rich.
Well there is only about £1000 difference in the price between the two. Has there ever been a bad Status let free from the factory? Even the quality of the Washburn is pretty high.

15. Nice one Steve. Know what you mean about taking photos of black basses, lots of reflections. How about some chrome knobs?
16. Don't forget Acoustic Image Contra. Small, portable and bags of power with the down firing 10". http://www.acousticimg.com/index2.html
17. Well done with your CR4M. Great basses with a great sound of their own. Not sure if it sounds like a DB to my ears. I hear a bit of Rickenbacker in it. Very powerful output, I played mine on a stage in a marquee a while back and had the bass frequency turned up a bit too high. You could feel the stage move and that was just through an AI Contra.
18. Thanks Rich. It needs new strings so some Hot Wires on their way. Can't wait to get that zing into the sound. EDIT: Just swapped over the strings from my Hohner Steinberger. What a sound, just what I want.

2X18 feedback

I'll add to all this splendid feedback, just picked up Will's black Washburn Series 1000. Lovely bass and great bloke to deal with. Even went to the trouble of meeting halfway. Thanks Will.
20. Just picked up Will 2x18's Washburn Series 1000. Dead chuffed. Apart from a few dings on the front which I can live with it is lovely. Sounds great too. I think I'll add chrome knobs to it which should look good against the black. Some pics attached with Miss Maple.
21. Have a look at some of the youtubes of Jazz 625 with Oscar Peterson. This was shown recently on BBC 4 and Ray Brown was on for when there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ObhDNKrTxs
22. Haven't they come out well. Myrtle looks just gorgeous. I'm picking up a new addition tomorrow. A nearly Status.
23. Hi fingers Stentor instruments are pretty good value. I don't know anything about the cheaper basses but I've been playing a Stentor Arcadia for about five years now and had no porblem. It has a good tone as well, to my taste anyway. If you buy mail order be aware you may have to lay out for a setup, that might cost anything upto £100. On the other hand it may be playable when it arives. Often the bridge is not in place when it arives. Zeller basses have a good rep as well and have some cheaper models too. I'd stear clear of Antoni though as I believe they often have weak neck joints. You'll never regret going to the dark side in jazz and you'll certainly be in demand if you are good at it.
24. Nice bass Rich. You've been having quite a turnover of instruments recently.
