I think you're allowed impulse buys when they are that good. Looks in great nick. How old is it? Well done, good buy.
Going a bit further afield, the double bass is an essential part of many Finnish folk music bands, along with fiddles and harmonium. JPP are a brilliant band in that style. http://www.myspace.com/thejppband. Just found this amazing link: http://m.folk.ee:8080/ramgen/2004/JPP.rm.
Good call on that Pete. Haven't heard them before but they are great. That's how to play bass in trad folk too.

Well there's a good move. The Electro on ebay has sold for £856. Unless I'm mistaken (and correct me if I am) that was the Electro in the Gallery untill the start of the year for £750. Good call sir and well done to whoever won it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140309539311

Sometimes in A too. What sort of folk is it you'll be playing, traditional, instrumental, songs? Keep your playing simple. Probably just first and fifth until you pick up the vibe, 2 or 4 to the bar. If it's traditional folk tunes there will be a lot of notes being played by the fiddles, whistles, etc. so keep your playing simple otherwise it all gets a bit muddy. Follow the guitarist's chords and you won't go wrong and just listen.
Hi again chaps....more info. on the Selmer: the label says `Aristocrat by Selmer. Handmade copy of Antonius Stradivarius. Model No. AR 233. Serial No. AO 126.` I am told it is 10 years old and was then priced at £1200. I really would appreciate any help regarding current value, how good it might be and who actually might have made it. Cheers.
Don't know if you have googled "Antonius Stradivarius" but the link below throughs up some interesting info on the labeling if it's of any help. I've always found my taste in music has evolved as I grow older. Bass playing has been no exception. In 2001 I hadn't played bass for 7 years but had the offer to dep with a local jazz band. After a series of coincidences I took up the offer and played BG with them. I felt the natural progression was into DB. Never looked back.
Well. I got the strings, put them on... annd i cant get on with the scale length, I am too engrained in the 34inch way of doing things. So i will be moving this on. Its a real shame as its a really really nicely constructed bass. Really deep sound.
At the risk of sounding like teacher, you've only had the bass a short while. As the cliche says 'Rome wasn't built in a day'. When you started playing bass I'm sure it took a while to get used to the long neck and this one is only an inch longer. Give it ten minutes a day and who knows how you'll feel in a couple of months. How old does that make me sound.

Interesting you should say that Rich. When I bought my Stentor I tried a Zeller along side it and the Zeller was much boomier. It had a tone I didn't take to. Whereas the Stentor had a lovely clear tone.

Thanks for putting the pics up, Rich. Looks like a good time was had by all. Well, I'm sure Moo and Todd would keep the party going anyway. How many Status basses were collected together this time?
-
I would agree with hubrad on the sound developing with playing. I play my DB at a local folk session and I always feel it takes about half an hour to get a sound from it that I am happy with. There's a lot of wood to get moving in a DB. I have heard that some luthiers place new violins on the speakers of their hifi so the vibs 'play in' the wood of the instrument in.
As for hypnotism, I don't need any encouragement to buy another Status. Just a bigger bank balance, as Nick will also attest to!
Don't you just hate it when someone else tries to make you spend your own money. At least you can write them down as a legitimate business expense.
Go for it sir! You know you want to!
There you are Rich, a wise man speaketh. ^_^

Well done Rob. I remember Zigmondo selling that bass and it is a real beauty. Now Rich. Look into my eyes, not around them look into them. You do not need to resist. You haven't resisted much so far so why start now. Why not add to the beauties you allready have?

That looks fantastic. I haven't seen too many all black S2s before. Good luck.
BTW dropping the action at the nut rarely means replacing the nut and is an easy job with the right tools, but it is very easy to bugger up if you are not sure what you are doing and do not have the right tools.
£73 for four files from Allparts you might only use once, unless you have them already. It might not cost much more to have the job done professionally.

Hi Kyle I would go along with the strings being about a credit card height at the nut. My first DB had strings that were way too high and it just about destroyed my fingers. I would take it to a luthier who knows about DBs and have a chat to him or her about it. Tell them what you want and what style of music you play. I think classical players have a higher action to give more volume and jazz players have a lower action. I play jazz and folk on mine and have quite a low action, particularly at the nut. I wouldn't be tempted to try it myself. Just seen you are in Glasgow. You'll no doubt be aware of The Violin Shop in Blackie Street. They will sort it for you. I bought my DB there. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Graham

If it is she's lost a lot of weight.

Just a few demos I've put up on Reverbnation. One jazz quartet song and some others I put together myself. Two of them are other peoples compositions. Hope you enjoy them. http://www.reverbnation.com/grahamblanche

Bob Golihur's site has a page that has all the measurements set out very clearly and you'll see it's not a stupid question at all. http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/2-SIZES_D...SIZING_FAQ.html
What amps do you guys use with a CR4M? I've fallen into the trap of thinking that just because I'm playing something light and compact, compared to an URB, I can get away with a light and compact amp. Whereas I suspect something more robust is needed. Any suggestions welcome.
I put mine through an Acoustic Image Contra. Maybe small but it packs a punch. I played with a local country act 2 years ago in a marquee on a wooden stage. The bass may have been set a little high but you could feel the stage move. Turned it down a bit eventually. Great little amps. Very compact but they use the stage to spread the sound with the down firing 10".
-
I don't have experience with the WAV but I do have a CR4M. What Jenifer has said is spot on but I would say that the mag pups are very useful when you want to give your sound a bit more body. You do need metal core strings though. Both the piezo and mag pups sound good through any FX. Mine goes through a Zoom B2.1u and I have played it through its predicesor too.
There you go here are a couple of pics, the bad quality one shows the Selmer in relation to my 3/4 Boosey & Hawkes.
Thanks for that. Good to see it side by side with a 3/4. It must be so much easier to cart around. Nice looking instrument.
