  1. About time for some more Dave Holland. A very readable part from the 2010 Holland Octet album, 'Pathways', this is the tune 'Blue Jean'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/blue-jean-dave-holland-octet/
  2. The last two albums, Light Up and Sia are both very, very strong, compositionally, performance and recording quality. I think they are a great band.
  3. A partial transcription (first 4 minutes or so) of the Robin Phillip's bass part to 'Light Up' from the Solstice album of the same name. Proper Prog. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/light-up-solstice-first-two-thirds/
  4. I had to get to it eventually. I always loved this tune but never got around to learning it. The John Paul Jones part from 'Black Dog' from the untitled Led Zeppelin album commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin IV. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/black-dog-led-zeppelin/
  5. And Lincoln Goines's bass part from the tune 'Tipatina's' from the 1999 Mike Stern album, 'Play' https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/tipatinas-mike-stern/
  6. Another Andy West bass part (on an Andy West tune) from the 1979 Dixie Dregs album, 'What If'. Not hard to read per se but hard to read at the tempo they are playing it at! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/travel-tunes-the-dixie-dregs/
  7. And that is all the return I need, BB. Thank you.
  8. And another Will Lee bass part. 'Street Rhyme' from the 2004 Mike Stern album, 'These Times'. Not a killer but a nicely constructed part, as most of them are on Stern albums. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/street-rhyme-mike-stern/
  9. Teething issues resolved. New transcription up there, Paul Del Harwood's bass part for the Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush tune 'The Answer' from their 1979 'Live' album (a massive favourite of mine) The Answer – Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush – Bilbo's Bass Bites
  10. 'Might as well go for a soda...'
  11. There is a transcription of Lemon Wedges off Itch on the website. The sickest horn arrangement I have ever heard!
  12. Bilbo

    Fusion Biscuit

I prefer the copious quantities of facial hair in the newer video but, if you are going to play fusion, you are going to need at least three more strings on your bass. Get with the programme!!
  13. There are a few tunes on TOTU that I want to get down. I love FM's energy. I love Kim Mitchell for the same reason.
  14. I just posted 'The Answer' by Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush but the link it not working. The revamp of the website has some teething issues which we need to iron out. It is also worth noting that some of the links to the YouTube videos seem to have disappeared on older posts, I assume because artist have pulled their stuff off there but I am not going to go through and repost them so people will have to find their own way to access the tunes on-line. Hopefully, if there is something you desperately want to play, you will already have a recording of it. It's all out there somewhere.
  15. I treated myself to a set of Beats headphones over Christmas. Everything sounds so much better but I have realised how many of my transcriptions are ' not entirely accurate'. Ouch.
  16. I can play and I am by no means a slap player. The approach got me up to speed.
  17. Yes. Muted. JB explains the riff very well on his Hotlicks video. Go to 15.40
  18. The website will be down on Friday but back up on Saturday. Nothing to worry about, just a technical upgrade.
  19. I wonder whether AI will live up to the hype in the long term. We have to understand that AI is a product like any other and no-one is going to sell it on its shortcomings. Everything I have read/ heard completed my AI has been a tiny bit rubbish. I am not impressed so far. I go back to the old adage 'garbage in, garbage out'. I suspect it will work perfectly well for the narrative on the back of a cereal packet or a jingle for toothpaste but replacing Art? Show me the money!
  20. I was reading that Simple Pleasures head chart last night. I can play it now.... At half speed.

  22. I think there is something inevitable about all of this. Let's face it, the market for music is totally saturated and there is no element of quality control whatsoever. You only have to see how many videos there are of Andre Rieu. We have all contributed to the devaluation of music by producing so much of it, a lot of it mediocre, whilst the vehicles for distribution take advantage of the fact. We all fantasise about making it and our expectations are being exploited. The American dream absolutely.
  23. I don't subscribe to any streaming services, music or videos. I will listen to odd tracks but mostly stuff I have already bought that I want to access when I am away from home. I do acknowledge that I link my transcription website to Spotify and YouTube so, obviously, I am a total hypocrite.
