  1. A partial Jeff Berlin transcription this time. This is the first half of the tune 'Constant Comment' from the 2005 album, 'Boston T Party' featuring Dennis Chambers, JB, David Fuiczynski and T. Lavitz. The reason the chart of partial is because I got bored and the notes were not very easy to find in the mix. The bit I have not transcribed is essentially a continuation of the bit that I have just with different fills. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/constant-comment-chambers-berlin-fiuczynski-lavitz/
  2. Another Jeff Berlin chart. This is the tune 'Marabi' from the 1986 Berlin solo album, 'Pump It'. It is reportedly a transcription of a Cannonball Adderley solo but I can't find the original. If anyone knows which recording the original solo is on, please let me know. I know there are other versions of this transcription on line but this is all my own work. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/marabi-jeff-berlin/ That's 44 Jeff Berlin charts up there now. I wish I had had them 30 years ago!!
  3. Another one from the same Panoply album, this is the track 'Riding The Wave'. Some tough files on the opening section. Riding The Wave – Panoply – Bilbo's Bass Bites (bilbosbassbites.co.uk)
  4. Another chart for a project I am working on, taking the studio project 'Panoply, the brainchild of Suffolk guitarist/composer Kevin Fitzgerald, out live. This is the track 'Manifesto' from the most recent Panoply album, First Inversion' (January 2021). https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/manifesto-panoply/
  5. My 100th transcription this year. A full transcription of 'Lien On Me' from the 2004 Jeff Berlin cd, 'Lumpy Jazz'. I went with the ledger lines. If you want a copy with the 8va option, let me know and I will make it happen. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/lien-on-me-jeff-berlin/
  6. Special request from the website. The James Jamerson part to 'My Girl' by The Temptations. The issue was that the player in question needed a chart in G rather in the original key of C. I have posted all three charts; C, G (5 string low B) and G (conventional 4 string). https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/my-girl-james-jamerson/
  7. Paton was also on this recording with Camel.... https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/sasquatch-camel/
  8. A challenging part, this is a transcription of the bass part for the tune 'State Of Disarray' from the 2018 album, 'A Walk In The Park' by UK Prog band, Panoply. The band is a studio project which it's creator, Kevin Fitzgerald, is seeking to take out on the road. Guess who he has got to play bass? https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/state-of-disarray-panoply/
  9. I loved the first two TT albums but lost interest after that. Too 'jammy' after that for my tastes. Willis is a monster, though.
  10. I saw this band in The Four Bars Inn in Cardiff. Unbelievable.
  11. The full Jeff Andrews performance of the 1988 Mike Stern album, 'Time In Place'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/time-in-place-full-album-mike-stern/
  12. The last one from the 'Time In Place' album, this is the tune 'Four Shades'. I am not confident about the two bars around 108 but am happy to leave it to you lot to find it damn notes https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/four-shades-mike-stern/
  13. And another; same album. After All – Mike Stern – Bilbo's Bass Bites (bilbosbassbites.co.uk)
  14. Another Jeff Andrews part, this one is the tune 'No Notice' from the 1988 Mike Stern album, 'Time In Place'. An interesting 4:4/12:8 hybrid which presents some challenges in interpretation. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/no-notice-mike-stern/
  15. A request from the website, this is a full transcription of Jimmy Johnson's bass part for the tune 'Home' from the 1985 Allan Holdsworth album, 'Metal Fatigue'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/home-allan-holdsworth/ PS that's the 300th transcription now available on the site
  16. A request from the website, this is Walter Becker's bass part from the tune 'Florida Room' from the Donald Fagan 1993 album, 'Kamakiriad'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/florida-room-donald-fagan/
  17. By the way, I have 10 JLP cds, Inc Enigmatic Oceans, that I got as part of that original albums series. Astonishing value for money.
  18. Indeed I have and JLP had some great bass players over the years.
  19. I have heard of them and heard that they were often compared to 'Yes' but, no, I have never followed them up either. Just did... eeek. A bit syrupy 🤪
  20. It's ok but a little naive for my tastes. Lacks the edge of Bruford etc. I found Flim and The BBs a bit like that. Kinda nearly but not quite. Occasional passages that are nice but, overall, a bit 'lightweight'. Nice to check out something new, though, and I had never heard of this guy so thanks for sharing. I will look for some more by him and see where it takes me.
  21. Something a little funky, in a 'broken beat' style that the young people have started to use This is, I believe, Vincente Archer's bass part to the tune 'Free Style' from the 2020 Donald Harrison compilation 'The Burners'. There are indications on the web that this was Ron Carter but it just doesn't sound like Uncle Ron to me... there are also indications that Carter and Archer both featured on the Free To Be album that this track originally comes from. If anyone knows anything I don't, please get in touch and I can correct if necessary. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/free-style-donald-harrison/
  22. The link is to the full album sequence on YouTube. You don't get to choose!
  23. I lived (yes, lived) those Bruford albums when I was a kid. Couldn't get enough of them. Love Jaco but Jeff Berlin was the bloke who captured my imagination. I think Bruford (the band) are more 'English/European/Prog Rock' influenced that Jaco's stuff which is more Funk/Jazz/Blues. I am not a massive funk fan so tended to 'hear' the melodies in Bruford more readily. I was also a Yes fan before I discovered Bruford so was into his drum concept already. Love them both but I always thought Jeff Berlin was the stronger player. Less iconic, probably, but less 'lick' based. If you listen to t a lot of Jaco, there is a lot of repetition. You don't get that so much with JB.
