All music is just patterns made (in our neck of the woods) from the same 12 notes. Scales just miss some of them out. The names came afterwards and are for musicians’ convenience. All I can say is that if you try playing F# minor over A major it will probably sound different, even though it’s the same notes. That’s the bit you can use, however you describe it.

I stopped taking my expensive bass to gigs some years ago and loaded up on a couple of cheapies that I could afford to have damaged or stolen. Think I recall reading that the sainted Jaco used to practice on a bass with a fretted P-bass neck, figuring that the 'speed bumps' and wider board would make things feel easier when he played gigs on his 'regular' Jazz.

Simply that starting in a different place, and using different hand shapes / positions, tends to make you reach for different notes. Same as playing in C major over a song in A minor -- the notes are the same but you wouldn't necessarily call them the same thing.

I have no idea what you're talking about...

Gone to join the Captain, alas ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mascara_Snake Here's one that once translated still makes no sense: -
Still experimenting and have taken non-virtual pedalboards out of the equation for now. Some of the bundled effects are pretty great, just working out which ones I like. But so far it beats the pants off any multi-effects board I've tried up to now (disclaimer: I haven't tried Helix or Kemper). And I have an electronic noise issue to work on that is probably to do with gain staging, whatever that is.

Just butting in but I finally got my Dwarf and OMFG it's fuuuuuun. As you were.

Playing a 5 string with only 4 strings. Where to leave the "void"
nige1968 replied to BELA's topic in Repairs and Technical
Swap the nut and bridge to make a wide-neck 4? I guess if you omit the G you'll have plenty of space to bend the D. And while you did ask for relevance, I feel the need to post this: -
Short scale, though. Very now.

Guitarists... why are they such knackers

Nothing to add to the general knowledge pool about guitarists, but would like to give kudos to the thread title. Made me smile, and there's not enough of that around. -
Covid / market forces? They have slimmed their range an awful lot but left the door open to bringing them back at some unspecified time. This forum might be the place to ask: https://forums.ernieball.com/threads/can-we-get-some-fretless-options-again.73076/

Anyone found a proper wide capo for 6-string bass guitar?
-
Thumbs-up from me. George bought my Fender Jazz and was thoroughly pleasant and reasonable to deal with throughout.

Love a good noodle me -- I'm in. Any interest in trades for a Cleartone Conversions 7-to-6string "Big Hander"? Cost £600 back in the day.
-
I got a couple of cans of Heinz tomato soup going if anyone's interested. £150 a tin? After all, in a few years it will be vintage.

I know everyone has their own playing style and that, but I think what you’re describing sounds more like an injury than any kind of “building stamina” thing. If twere me I’d be listening to my body and working on a less abrasive technique. “Burning” doesn’t sound normal to me.

Need to pay for new bass and have no money, therefore this is for sale. If I say it's my regular gigging bass, don't be put off -- only done a handful of gigs since I got it. Anyway, here's a 2018 RockBass Streamer NT 5-string, made with something approximating love in the People's Republic. The useless RB preamp has been switched out for a proper 3-band MEC job from the Warwick shop, along with the proper Warwick chrome knobs. The work was done by the legend that is Bernie Goodfellow, who also did the setup (Low E to high C). The "inlays" on the fretboard are stickers, as are the glow-in-the-dark bits. I'll take them off before sale unless you like them for some reason. The only mark on it is a scratch in the varnish, which looks like this: Here's the back: The bass is in Hove and will be supplied with a RockBag (it didn't come with one, so purists can feel free to decline it!) I'm not mad keen to post, as I haven't a spare hard case to post it in -- as you may know, it's pretty much impossible to get any courier to insure basses for the correct value, especially in a gig bag. And you'll want a cup of tea while you test it out. So pick up is hugely preferred, but if that's the only hurdle let me know and I'll see what can be done. Sorry, I won't send it overseas. Price is firm. Trades-wise, only thing I'm looking for is a Barefaced BB2 but cash is still very much king. Hit me with your vexed questions.
