1.
Thanks guys.... Still not to sure if one is a preferred method of creating playing volume though. If I wind my pre amp control upto an almost clipping point, and then use the master output gain to control the volume, I seem to get far more string noise...zinging etc....than using the other method. It seems the higher the pre amp setting, the more it imports the unwanted signals into the amp, yet using a lesser pre amp signal and the master volume almost on full, you get less of these unwanted signals, but is this detracting from the sound being sent to the amp by the bass. Sorry if it sounds a bit messy, but I don't have the tech talk to explain myself in simpler terms.
okay ...... in very simple simple terms pre amp gain affects how much noise your pickups will "pick up" if you imagine a ball around your pickup is the area it can hear sounds and as you increase the pre amp gain the ball gets bigger thus the quieter sounds (string noise and zinging) can be heard master volume is the total volume the amp will output so all you're doing is turning the signal that the pickups create (via preamp gain) up or down sorry if this is a little simplistic but that in essence what both knobs do N.B. if you play in a band and have a mixer for your PA most will have a gain (or trim) knob at the top of the channel (the mic replacing the pickup) and a fader which is in essence volume it works the same way Edit: theres no right or wrong way to get the sound you want really (as long as you're not clipping the preamp) for example the conventional wisdom for bass amps is that you turn up the gain until its just below clipping and then set master volume to taste. this is so that you have maximum potential volume there should you need it and the sound will stay roughly consistent as you change volume, if you change the gain on your amp mid gig and you have D.I.'ed from the back of your head you will increase the signal going to the sound guy as well however in mixing bands you're taught to set the fader at zero and then gain up the channel to the correct volume because that way you're only amplifying what you want to hear from an individual mic so it depends ...... hope this is helpful
2. chasing down a bride or groom or whoever at the end of the night (especially if they've had a bit to drink) is much harder. IME if you ask for payment before going on stage people are generally more forthcoming because they'll be entertained sooner. Whereas at the end of the night you may be left without payment and the person paying you nowhere to be seen.

5. all a mixer will do which the cable won't is give you individual volume control which you have anyway
6.
Would using a headphone splitter (Y cable) with headphones in one side and MP3 player in the other work?
something like this http://www.boots.com/en/Belkin-RockStar-Multi-Headphone-Splitter_1517193/?cm_mmc=pla-_-google-_-PLAs-_-Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Electrical+Beauty
7. heres a transcription for master blaster if you need it its all Cm pentatonic if i remember correctly and once youve got it under your fingers falls fairly naturally http://www.basslessons.be/transcriptions.php?i=48
8. the mixer is mains only but i think you might struggle to find something that isn't
9. i use a little mixer like this and then a headphone to 2 1/4" jack cable (which can be bought from maplins) to run any device i want into it https://www.studiosp...AMAAAAEBEFsdG8= i also then take this to use to run my in ears on gigs too
10. I trust you and wooks79 have got your tech specs, stage plots and riders in order depending on what stage it is they may be using rolling risers for drum kits ect so that you can get kit set up and mic'ed up before you hit stage and then its just plug up line check and off you go generally you'll get an email from the stages production manager asking you for all these details well in advance feel free to give me a shout via pm if you need help with tech specs and stage plots tis what i do for a living and also congratulations chaps!
11.
Hi Sorry but I probably didnt make myself clear enough in my original post. I just happened to use and break them at the gym. They are usually used for my IEM onstage system.
i that case i would definitely recommend upgrading the number of drivers you're using will give a lot more depth to your in ears sound
12. Hi Guys Decided to have a bit of fun with a song i've had to learn and try and record it one shot all the way through and video this is my first attempt at a bass cover video so the audios a bit quiet on normal laptop speakers but sounds fine through headphones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSnzO1lWOLw&feature=youtu.be Welcome any thoughts or ideas enjoy Chris
13. 5hz-28khz? Do these people just make this stuff up? Or are they making these headphones for dogs now? On a serious note of you want to notice a bigger difference you'll need to upgrade the number of drivers in your headphones Ebs_freak is far more knowledgeable about this than me but I'm onto westone 4R's which are quad driver and are leaps and bounds better than my old 215's however they are a bit pricey so maybe upgrading to some shure 425's or westone um 2's might be worth it if they're just for listening to music at the gym?
14.
I can't stand the studio version. Having said that, Constantine does a pretty good job of that one, although I tend to avoid his play alongs as some of them are pretty wide of the mark. This is what you need to be aiming for....
its funny how personal taste works i got through about 30 seconds of that before i had to turn it off nowt as queer as folk nothing to contribute to the thread as you were gents
15. i don't know theres been some buzz about it on some sound engineering groups i'm part of i'd be very interested in hearing it i do a decent amount of monitor mixing and i've never had an artist have a problem with this so i suspect this may be fixing a problem that isn't really there i can see them getting used on massive tours and even then probably just for a couple of mixes for the talent i doubt it'll be something that will become installed in venues
16.
Anyone else got stage fright on a big stage and what did you do?
luckily whenever i'm doing big stages (up to 12,000 people) its with a bon jovi tribute band so i get to hide behind a pair of sunglasses honestly i don't know if i could do that gig without them theres just something comforting about the audience not knowing who you're looking at
17. without getting into lots of technical details all a DI box does is take and unbalanced signal (the electrical signal from your bass) and make it into a balanced one (which is less susceptible to electrical interference over long distances) as your bass amp has a DI out already it is doing this internally. in short no you don't need a DI box if you're happy with the sound your amp is producing. You'll see them occasionally at multi band gigs because that way the sound engineer is using the sound of the individual players bass and not the sound of the amp.
18. i'd be interested to see if there are any latency issues but yes very cool
19. if it had a microphone ring would it not also have a microphone? also if that was the case you would have sound in one ear and not the other
20.
I've got Behringer phones
you've pretty much answered your own question there you could try using a mono 1/4" to 1/8" adapter (it'll only have one black ring on it) which might solve your problem but tbh it would put it down to behringer QC http://www.amazon.co.uk/Metal-Stereo-Socket-6-35mm-Adapter/dp/B003OSXND6/ref=pd_sim_ce_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1JQ9PTC32448CB8RGTRK it's called the yellow triangle of doom for a reason
21.
Typically digital systems have 120db gain (dynamic range) available to them... so basically you have far more bandwidth available for you overdrive the channel - so essentially, what you get in, is what get out. (low gain in, low gain out... high gain in, high gain out).
ahh cool okay. sorry realised my comment might have seemed a bit off but i was just genuinely interested thanks for the info
22.
There rarely is a gain setting on digital packs - they don't need them.
????? how does that work then?
23. doesn't seem to be any kind of gain setting on the beltpack or transmitter so you may find the signal from your bass is actually too hot for the pack as its designed to work with a lav mic which would need more gain in theory yes if you can get the right connectors it could work however in reality i could see you running into gain issues for the sake of £30 its probably not worth it imo
24. had to learn turn it on by Genesis for my uni course a couple of years ago if i recall correctly its mostly B for us and its just where to put accents i think i ended up scribbling a quick chart for it before the lesson keep going at it though don't be afraid to use cheat sheets until you get it (especially the drummer) it's a great song on that topic i once had to play Rosanna by Toto with a drummer who couldn't play the shuffle properly that was frickin hard!!!
25. sounds like every other music man style bass i've ever heard sounds like very bright strings something like DR Hi beams or D'addario prosteels and then just amp tweaking of course tbh 90% of it is in the fingers but yno
