If you can keep the value below about £30 GBP customs dont bother with it normally...... You can ask the shop if they dont mind writing the price down on the external packing, but if you do be prepared to pay full import duty and VAT if the customs "get one on them"..... Also a lot of shops in teh US are not prepared to take risks with shipping so they will refuse to do this (as it is thier right!) Its definately worth doing if you after "hard to" or "nigh on impossible " to get bits, in the UK.... otherwise "you pays your money and takes your choice........." A lot of teh time by teh time it gets into your hands you will have paid as much as you would here from a discount house! (eg Thomann)

Chris, Might be silly suggestion, and you may well have tried it already, but have you tried playing with the height of the pups under the D+G string before you start changing them? Just a thought as you obviously have a string combination that you like and changing string Dia.s will mean set up changes and tinkering again.......

Texas Flood: is a challenging walking blues bass line that is a great goal for you to set early on ( I know it took me ages to crack it!) ... While you are listening to SRV and have the correct album for it try the bass line to Tin Pan Alley....... its not as easy as you think at first, and its in 3/4 (or 6/8 as some tabs claim) and the timing is everything.... just another quick pointer for Texas Flood, you need to drop tune to get it right! Enjoy SRV I know I do !!!!!

BH, Oh yes, he is a loverly player...... If you like SRVs stuff check out John Mayer too...... My best mate, and +++tarist really gets off on getting these parts right so I have to learn the bass lines.......

I'm a bit with Edward here..... I believe Warwick heads look like sad sheep with dangly ears (suffolks) the bodies look a bit " lets make a shape that cant quite be associated with anyone elses....... Dont get me wrong they are VERY fine instruments but do nothing for me....... Bit like Peter Andre's missus!!!!

PRS leather straps with Schaller strap locks..... ( and a Fender FS-1 on the P-bass!)

Painless, as you are currenty in the good 'ole US of A try and get a 2nd hand Mesa Walkabout Scout 12 (you shuold be able to get for your around $500 mark) you will have 300w if you need them and its aVERY loud cab.... I tried the Rumble 210 and Boss Dbass 210 in shops befreo deciding on the 1x12 (also available in 1x15----OUCH) Mesa which in my opion is far better tone and more tonally versatile !!!!!!!

MB1...... BIG +1 for your above comment! Paul, it has a 'midrange cut' that removes a bit too much midrange, and makes the whole track sound s++te...... You can however boost the input by upto 3db which effectivly does the same..... Better still just use your bass in active and you can play over the MP3 easily..... I didnt get on with the 'bass cut' facility on the Tascam as it cuts the drums with it....... I know that at times its no bad thing as drummers can be unpredcitable wee beasties...... However the whole point (for me anyway) of playing with the music is the work out the relationships of the rythym section.... which makes it a bit tricky if teh machine cuts 2/3rds of it out... Plus my other big bug bear of the Tascam is the pitch of the music on the CD stays the same (alledgedly) but the bass input pitch tends to fluctuate making you unsure of the tuning of your axe ...... I may have had a Friday afternoon one, but its not a patch on the Boss IMO.....

Steve, Thanx bud, I've learnt more in that post than I have reading several books...... So a brief and 'stereotypical' summary is that more makers could use it if they had i) the knowledge and ii) it was as cost effective as wood..... Is that fair? It just goes further to impress me how "forward thinking" Ned was..... Now I really must try and find a XL2-A and give it a good twang (I have always liked 'em, and now thats reaching fascination point!)

Chris I flogged my CD BT 1 MkII to get the Boss Micro br..... ABSOLUTELY the right move my basses sunded aneamic thru teh Tascam but with good headphones the Micro is spot on..... puls it has effects and does all the stuff the Tascam does PLUS 4 track recorder............ No brainer......

Why did Polymers never really take off? Apart from limited success with Status and Uncle Ned himself, there has been hardly any takers in this department..... I find it odd! They (now) have incredible stabilty and memory they are not affected by temp and humidity like wood.... They can be considerably more dense that some woods so better for tonal qualities, the newest ones are even CNC able (anyone that has fired a Glock will know about that) ..... but they still remain an "out there' material...... Somone enlighten me.........

Acid, I like you mostly practice thru earphones and, my kit has developed to..... 1. Boss Micro br (all round top bit of kit but can loop /slow/ play MP3s /Ooooh and has effects built in ......etc) 2. The Box MA205 2x5 active monitor (which also doubles as the drum machine speaker when jamming plugged in) 3. Bose Tri port in-ear fones when HWMBO is at home! All very versatlie and expandable/ multi use kit that is much more 'uausble' than the Roland Cube 30 its replaced !

Mrs T, as nice as Devon is...... us mere mortals would never (actually even if we WON teh lottery) be able to afford to live there....... Its becoming the mainland Jersey! Another beautiful place to visit !

Guitar and BASS..... Mainly guitar but has some good bass stuff in it!
