Here's another thread about another great fretless: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262540-wishbass-makeover/page__p__2779898__hl__wishbass__fromsearch__1#entry2779898

A mate, who's a pro sprayer, quoted me £100 to spray a body. That was "mates rates". So you can look at double that as normal for a proper spray job. I've sprayed a few myself and I'm getting to be quite good with rattle-cans, but TBH, it costs about £50 in cans. Add to that the hours of rubbing down, priming and rubbing again, the sandpaper and your time.... aaand add to that, the fact that it doesn't look totally "pro" when I'm done. I'd get my mate to do it for next time. I hope this might help a bit.
I've seen a few I quite liked but wouldn't buy one. Reputation for poor build quality precedes them...
They're sold with the admission that work is needed to sand the neck flat and smooth and shape the body etc, to get it to be what you want. They're not for the buyer who's looking for a ready finished bass. Mine had a Kent Armstrong humbucker and a great growl tone. It was good fun working on it, cutting a new nut and bridge from ebony and getting it working well. No sure as I want to do it again, but it was good while I was doing it. The question you need to ask is, "does this bass have the look I'm after for a classic blues band?"
Being a newbie to Basschat and all things bass-wise; what happens at a Bass Bash?
Folk take along their basses and rigs for others to try out, and everyone has the opportunity to try out a sorts of gear that you won't find in the local mucic shops. You also get to meet other BCers for a chat and put faces to names.

Sounds good Mick. It's good you managed to get another booking date.

Does anyone make custom scratch plates on here?
Grangur replied to Ant_On_Bass's topic in Repairs and Technical
[Pedant] I doubt anyone actually makes scratch plates on Basschat. But there maybe someone on Basschat who makes scratch plates. [\pedant] Good luck -
I had one of these. If you take the time to work on them, you can make them into a decent instrument. But if you don't like the rustic look then it, okay it isn't for you.

I'd probably come if it was on another day.
I'm having quarter lines on my incoming Wal. A previous bass had them and they were barely visible from the front but from the playing position looked like full lines
Have to say, I like that.

Sounds like you need a set of imperial Allen keys.

WITHDRAWN: Warwick Rockbass Corvette 5-String - Medium Scale 32"

As you dont yet own the bass, play a genuine fretless Warwick bass before you convert one. Try it out and get a good feel for it. You also have to think about the re-sale value; which will be more saleable? I've got a 4 string fretless LX if you're interested in giving it a go. I'm a bit of a drive from you, but it's nothing when you think of the money involved.
nice bass!
You're privileged. I'm waiting for an email with the pictures. Posting a link is all well and good if it takes you to the pictures, but I got one saying "An email has been sent to the owner letting them know that you would like permission to see them". WRT is that?

Now SOLD Custom built fretless Precision, very black! 12/4 drop to £375
Grangur replied to Paul S's topic in Basses For Sale
This is a really nice bass. I remember playing this in Oldman's studio. Over a year back. It has a beautiful finish. It's light weight and the neck is smooth and just the right level of mwah. The tone was amazing, I loved it. Just didn't have the £700 that was being asked back then. At this price I'd have snapped it up. It's better than a Fender IMHO. (I was there to try another bass) I already have a 4 string Warwick fretless, or I'd snap this up. -

Also, if you can, get a statement from the cab supplier detailing what their standard packaging is like when they ship by courier. If yours was stronger then it adds weight to your argument. Even if it's not a Barefaced, maybe Alex can help here? How do Barefaced ship their cabs?
I think the received wisdom on here is to plug the existing holes with cocktail sticks and superglue, cut the sticks off flush and drill the new holes where they should be, you could use the pickup cover as a drilling jig if you lined it up with the scratchplate. I'm finding a lot of the questions difficult. Even Q1: Favourite bass player. There are so many who are favourite for many things; particular bass lines, techniques, styles etc. Being a music fan isn't quite like following a football club.

Jezz, your work is stunning. This is great.

Hi Yuki, Welcome to BC. I too can't claim to know the Aria. Accoustics can be very quiet. That's all I would say. My personal view is, if you need an amp to hear the acoustic, you might as well have an electric one. But don't let me stop you. All I would suggest is to buy it online - so you can try for 30 days and send it back if you change your mind. Good luck on playing the bass.

Fender announcement. No more rosewood 'boards.
Grangur replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I guess also thst for Fender, shipping instruments by the container-load round the globe $60 for a CITES certificate covering 300 instruments is no big deal. For Chowney Bass to ship 2 basses to "Music Division" (a great shop) here in Sofia, Bulgaria; it's £57 added to the shipping. Which is about 10% on the price of the bass. Oh, isn't it great we're helping major industry fight off the terrible onslaught from this nasty independent enterprises.
