First I should say I'm no musical expert, but I know when I like something. I salute your bravery to you openning your soul to comments from the "great unwashed". I've listened a couple of times with Mrs G. We like the sound/tone of the track. You've got a good sounding vocalist and band there. I like a ballad and this starts off sounding like a ballad. After the intro the track builds as if it's going into a rocky chorus, but nothing happend. It stayed on the same level. A bit more of a "kick" from the drums and bass would have been good. Lifting it also could have changed the vocals a bit too and given some light and shade. It didn't do that, it carried on in the same maner. So we carried on listening and to me and the Mrs G it stayed sounding "nice" but we didn't really notice the verses and the chorus happening. Sorry to say this, but if we were in a pub this would be like nice acoustic wall paper. I recon if you can bring a change in tempo to the chorus and have the verses in the nice mellow tune you have, it would grab our attention more and we might get the message you're trying to make in the lyrics; which as it was Mr & Mrs G here failed to get. As for the lyrics.... there's a phrase that's banded about in many things: "KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid". No offence meant here, its a phrase that means keep the words simple so we latch onto a clear comon refrain. We then start to sing that bit with you and the more we start to feel we can sing it, the more we buy into your message - selling records Thanks for the chance to hear your work. First picked up a bass in/around 1978. After 2 years I gave up, but kept the bass. Went back to it 3yrs ago and still not gigged yet. I went to a gig in a local pub on this last Saturday and was amazed how useless the bass player was; very poor fretting, single finger plucking etc... I'd thought I wasn't up to it yet!! So now looking out for a band of equally minded mediocrity.

It sounds to me like you may be taking on too many different scales all at the same time. It will come. You will get there. If I were you I'd chill and learn some easy 12-bar Blues and other simple tunes and riffs. You need to get some enjoyment on the scene. If you don't you'll get bogged down and lose your motive. By learning some riffs you'll build up finger strength and agility. If you're learning to read and want some simple tunes I can send you scores a few easy ones. PM me.

Hmm.. Mike Vs Andy... let the "Battle of the Basses" Commence! I think Mike does sound serious about it. He's an experianced ebayer too, so he'll bid at the last moment. Maybe Andy and Mike should chat it over. It'd be a shame to lose it altogether.

You could ask him for a erial number. Then you can check it out on the Warwick web site. You need also to check out the neck. Warwick made some with a neck like a baseball bat. You may love that, or hate it. But either way, I would want to, know before parting with some hard-earned. But if it works out to be a good bass, then it's a real cool find.

The firs t thing I would suggest is to take your bass to a local store and tryit though a few amps of different makes. make sure it's not the amp that's the problem. It would be a shame to spend £100 on pups only to find its your amp that's lacking. Then take a good look at your bass and it's value. I've seen it on ebay for £99. OK, that was a lefty, but are you going to double your investment in the bass and it will STILL only be worth £99? I don't want to be rude, but take a good look about and think first before you spend serious money on a £99 bass. I would respectfully suggest trying out a s/hand Ibanez - some come with Barts as standard. Another is the Fender Squier. You can get a s/hand one on ebay for between £100-150. IMHO if you go for a better replacement bass the build will possibly be better and you'll gain more in the way of sustain and other factors. Right now s/hand basses are going cheap. Post again if you're sure about upgrading the pups

I'm so pleased you're not an ABC fan. I have to say I was worried for a mo there. If you HAVE to re-create it, then I too would use a bass for that section. I also have great confidence that your rendition will be SO much better than the original. Especially in the section where you use the flange and overdrive :-P

+1 on the Bartolinis for a nice rounded deep sound. But, Viking, what exactly are you asking? Do you want advice on pup/string selection or about the install itself?

I've had a few tendon/muscular issues and from my experiance I would go straight to a good Osteopath. Doctors don't know enough about it. 1 session with a good practitoner and maybe 2-3 follow-up sessions and you could be in a far better situation.

Sorry to say this Mick, but unless you've bought or tried-out a bass from each of 3-4 I don't think you have the right to vote here... imho I'm sure all these guys named in this forum have produced some amazing pieces of work. Maybe some owners can post pics and reviews of some of the beauties they own? If possible with sounds or videos? After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm learning to sight read, so I've been raiding my bro-in-law's music as he's a cello teacher. The only problem I keep finding is the cello goes lower than the bass, so I keep getting GAS for a 5 string. - That, or I need to re-write it in MuseScore and transpose it to a higher key. BTW, my B-in-L just bought a cello; £68K. It was a bargain, so he says.
