1. Age, chemistry and BBC 6 Music have opened my ears to this kind of stuff over the last couple of months; those clips were mightily impressive and I'll watch the long video soon. Anyway, I followed a link to their website, and it seems they have a UK tour coming up in autumn. After a Dublin date on the 29th of September they play from the 1st to the 7th of October at Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bristol, London and Brighton.
2. Primus and the Chocolate Factory. June 23rd Brixton, 24th Manchester, 25th Birmingham.
3. You are correct, ma'am - Pro Series, Korean built. Can't see a date, but I have learned to trust you! Edit: I didn't even note that these were fretless, and Bluejay's own review is right there on the page.
4. Just spotted, two different finishes, only about £335 at today's exchange rate. Not Rockbasses. You wrong-handed freaks get all the breaks!
5. . . . about equivalent to the council tax that doesn't come out of this payday . . . I don't need one, not at all. Are they any good?
6.
I tried to watch the link , but it said it couldn't be watched in my area/region , or something
It's also on youtube - search Peavey Undercover Boss - so can be seen in UK and probably most other places.
7. Still listening here, but the love-him-or-hate-him nature of the performance is underlined by my inability to find anybody to use my second ticket on Wednesday night! Ho hum. His cover of Roy Orbison's I Drove All Night is something to hear, 12 minutes into the live set from the Cube Microplex in 2013 on youtube.
8. I heard that session and was blown away. They've played The Vile Stuff on 6 Music before, and I was struck by it then, but now I'm consumed by it. I ordered the CD immediately, it arrived today, and I'm listening now. He's playing nearby next week. I'm reminded of Pony Express Record by Shudder To Think. Love it.
9. Another satisfied customer. Bought the Ipad Mini Milton had placed in Sell Anything. As you might expect, excellent communications and a quick turnaround. Thank you Sir!
10. http://audiozone.dk/...japan_1986-1991 The J20 pickup means 87/88, and the Charvel headstock decal with ® but no TM probably makes it 88. Great website for Charvels, that one. EDIT: '87 basses have a TM on the neckplate, '88s have ®.
11. Bargain! That won't be here for long. Strings are nice too. If this was within driving distance I'd be on my way.
12. Just heard this on Cerys Matthews' BBC 6 Music show - what a bassline! Morning Dew by Salena Jones
13. An e-friend of mine from Oakland just sent me their debut CD, and it's bloody good stuff. Not as out there as VF or some of Larry Boothroyd's other bands, but excellent grown-up guitar rock, think QOTSA for example. Whole CD at bandcamp page: https://brubaker-rock.bandcamp.com First live show from last year: Hope somebody enjoys them. I think there's more recent youtube stuff too. Also, they have the best tune ever recorded about big molluscs.
14.
I'm still dumbstruck how people can be exposed to people playing music to that level & not be stood watching him
+ as many as you've got. JJR were on 6 Music not so long ago, and it was a real blast of fresh air. I watched that clip with a face-splitting grin and two Strummer legs, so thanks for posting it, Stu-khag.
15. No Jazz bass is ever cool. [Cat, meet pigeons.] Turned out I misremembered the phrase "jittery psychedelic arabesques", which is a much better one than the hoary cliché (there's one!) I thought it was, and a reminder of why I liked Neil Kulkarni's writing.
16. Now then. I remember back in about 1994 when CBM's Home CD was released, because Neli Kulkarni in Melody Maker wrote a glowing review of it. I was inclined to pay attention because I was at the time totally immersed in Shudder To Think's Pony Express Record, as previously recommended by NK, not to mention the various Wu-Tang Clan records he'd put me onto. NK lavished particular praise on the opening few minutes of the tune Massaker - discreet's first link - from which I still remember the phrase "swirling arabesques", and it is rather impressive stuff, but the bass and drums on the whole CD always sounded leaden to my ears, and spoiled it for me pretty quickly. The CD is knocking around somewhere, and I think I cut out the review and left it in the sleeve. I'll have a look, if I remember.
17. NoMeansNo/Hanson Brothers/Show Business Giants/ Ford Pier/Andy Kerr/Invasives/Pack A.D. And the Trailer Park Boys.
18. Lordy. They've still got it. Quality show at Manchester; band looked great in their black gear, shoulder to shoulder on that too-small stage, and - apart from Angelo who seemed to get distracted by messages from halfway through - seemed really into it and got the crowd involved. They played some favourites and ended with a hot streak of Alcoholic, Bonin' In The Boneyard and Sunless Saturday, but finished four minutes from the curfew so there was no encore. Norwood played a blinder: there's a new tune called Kung Fu Grip and I've never seen fingers move so fast, but here they are frozen in time...
19. He he he - must be about ten years now. I finally found the appropriate forum! EDIT: It was such a great set-up from Russ, too.
20.
Norwood is, and always has been, an amazing player, touting a great range of Warwicks, serious chops and groove, one huge dreadlock and a towel.
A few years ago Fishbone played at a small venue in Ashton-under-Lyne, on a boiling evening during which they weren't allowed to open the side doors because of the volume. Norwood was wearing what appeared to be a richly-embroidered rug with a hole cut in the middle for his head, perhaps some kind of priestly garb. Anyway, he wasn't wearing anything else aside from his bass and strap, and from the regular side views I got I can add that he also touts quite a spectacular cock.
21. I just found out (I'm slow and uninformed) that Fishbone are touring and are in the UK from Wednesday at Manchester Academy, followed by Newcastle, London, Glasgow, Derby and Bristol. I will endeavour to make the Manchester show as it has been too long since I last saw them.
22. Agree with the last two posts. Ball-Hog Or Tugboat? has cost me a fortune in Nels Cline music since it came out, too. Thank you, Mr Watt.
23. Arse. First I've heard. Missed Manchester show. Arse.
24.
I totally was expecting it haha. I have no idea who the charles mingus is, but there were a few things with a black dude on which i threw away.
You and the postie are off the hook!
25.
You mean this son of a bitch which i received this morning?
Mine isn't here yet! Were you expecting that? Did It arrive with a couple of Charles Mingus CDs? Has my postie gone rogue?! We're not far away from each other . . .
