Is your new one looking up from the bridge towards the headstock?
No, that's the old one! If you go on my profile it's the new one, a shot of my black KT5.

I'm just trying to change my avatar, and the new one shows when I check my profile, but it's still the old one on all my posts...... I've cleared all of the history, etc in my browser but no joy. Any ideas? Ta

Sandberg P-bass type - passive... anyone got one?
TRBboy replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Was the neck closer to being a P rather than a J?
It's hard to say to be honest, I had sold my Jazz before buying it, so I never compared it to a Fender. I guess I would say it's not like either! I suppose the nut width was possibly more J than P, but I don't have any measurements to back it up. The neck profile and fretboard radius isn't like a Fender bass at all IMO. Why don't you ask a BCer who has a Cali V series to measure the nut for you? I think someone's selling one on here at the moment, or get in touch with Longtimefred, who plays a Cali VM and is a Sandberg Endorsee. -

You know what I'm gonna say....... Love my Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5, it's the only 34" 5er I've ever liked, the B is stonking! I like it because although 35" scale is great for the B string, I don't like the added tension in the other 4 strings, so my KT is perfect for me. Massive range of sounds on offer, and a super comfortable neck that's effortless to play. Can't wait to order my new one when I can finally decide what finish I want!

Sandberg P-bass type - passive... anyone got one?
TRBboy replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a California PM (now VM) for a while. I know it's a bit different, but had a passive tone control and with the P pickup soloed it sounded pretty authentic IMO. The neck was nicer than any Fender P I've played (obviously!), but I can't really comment on how it compares to a TM because I haven't played one of those for a couple of years, and I've never had chance to A/B the two. Needless to say, the neck felt lovely and very easy to play. Hope this helps a little! -
Awesome! These are great. Love mine to bits. The audio quality is just astounding - no more distorted rehearsal recordings and even live gigs recorded sound great.
Are they any good for doing YouTube vids and stuff? Been looking for an easy, cheap way to do that.... -

what you need is the neck pickup from a BB714 at the bridge instead of the existing pickup. It wouldn't look out of place either. Worth ringing Yamaha spares? http://www.musik-schmidt.de/images/product_images/popup_images/Yamaha-BB-714-BS-Black_1.jpg
Just tried one in PMT Manchester in the exact same colour. It sounded great and the necks are amazing! If I wasn't being so picky about what I want I'd snap this up, this is more than half the price of new one! A lot of bass for not a lot of money!
Thanks! Glad you can see why I keep banging on about how good the necks are! They really are superb basses. Surely colour doesn't matter when you're saving a fortune on the cost of a new one!

Don't think I've ever owned more than 4 at any one time, and I used to feel that I needed to cover all occasions. Realistically, I've always found myself favouring one over the others and now I've got back into playing a 5, I don't really feel the need to keep 4's and 5's as I can do everything and more on a 5 that I can do on a 4. I'm aiming to sell my other Sandberg Basic 4 in order to buy a brand new Basic Ken Taylor 5 in whatever finish I decide (if I ever decide!), and just have the two of those. I find them immensely comfortable and easy to play (which is always the main thing for me), and there are more than enough tones available to cover any situation. I'm not really that vain when it comes to basses, but I'm glad it's not just another Fender-a-like! I'll always keep my my modded RBX270 as it makes a good backup, and it's nice to have a knockabout bass permanently in the living room that I don't mind the kids getting their grubby mitts on!
Brake before the swing! You can't afford his wife right now because of the custom, remember?
Good point! A straight cash sale would be fine, one wife costs me enough without adding a second! Could always consider an indecent proposal i suppose!
Do you remember which models they had in PMT? I'm seriously thinking about selling some gear/the wife to get a 'berg
Let me know if you fancy a Basic 4!
they built their own models back then, s1 and s2. handbuilt instruments of the highest quality. super to play but not as cool as fender-like basses sothey began to built the california series and forgot about their own amazing designs...
They do well with the Basic series which is their design, as well as the Customs and Bullets. Personally I've found the Basic series to be much better for me than the Californias; lighter and effortless to play.

I miss it! Seriously awesome bass, wish I could've afforded to keep it and satisfy my GAS. I promise I'll change my avatar soon, feels like I've got a picture of someone else's girlfriend or something! Enjoy it man!
Black pickguard on this looks devilishly sexy!!! If my money had all evaporated this month I may have had this second one off you!!
Sexy huh? I made the clear one because I wanted to see more of the greenburst, but when I laid the black one on top to take the pics, I thought it looked great! Have a rummage down the back of the sofa

What Bass do you swear buy? Any thoughts on Sandberg?
TRBboy replied to bassickman's topic in Bass Guitars
Bought my first Sandberg last year (and 3 more since!) and haven't looked back. For me, I've never found another bass which is quite so comfortable to play, or just feels "right" in my hands. Most of them aren't particularly fancy, they're really well made workhorse basses IMO, but they just sound and feel great and the materials/construction quality at this pricepoint should really embarrass some of the big name manufacturers. If you're ordering a new one too, there's sooo many different options to choose from, and that's before you start getting into "custom build" territory. If you search, there's several threads on here about them. I've had a couple of Basics (matt finish with ash bodies), a California PM (also matt/ash) and a Basic Ken Taylor (high gloss/alder). The one that really does it for me is the Ken Taylor; feels great and the tone is a little more rounded and less "modern", seemingly as a result of the Alder body. It's very light for a 5er too, I make it about 7.5 - 8lb on my (crappy) bathroom scales! In fact I will be ordering a brand new Basic Ken Taylor 5 soon, just need to decide on the finish! BTW, there's a lovely Greenburst Basic 4 for sale on here..... -
