Vong is built as per guide, no duff solder I can see… squeeeell different chips can change the freq slightly but something just isn’t right with it when combined with the sushibox. not sure what next - probably decide not to use the valve pedals, sell the Vong or put it in a drawer somewhere- which seems a shame @tauzero I’ll get that sticker in the post tomorrow- its been a super busy week.

In my head you either have a preamp designed around a pickup, the stingray 2 and 3 band being good examples, or you have something with flexibility to tune to your bass. I used to do a wee bit behind a sound desk so having a PA desk type setup makes sense to me. The Glock is a mid control at about 550Hz if you’ve something you can test a boost/cut at that frequency to see if that suits your bass it might be perfect for you. (I’m not suggesting it is the best solution for you, I don’t know, but the east Uni pre also gives you active blend, a passive tone and the ability to tune the bass and treble controls too, so it’s not just the mid boost) im actually surprised how few preamps have semi parametric mids!

I think sometimes we get sucked into internet hype around X bass being better than what we have and just end up dissatisfied. I know I went through that process years back - but when I objectively went through point by point what could be better for me than what I currently had, I realised that the fancy/new/shiney expensive basses would be no better than what I had except for the preamp - so I upgraded the preamp. @Al Krow you've had enough very nice basses to know objectively how good the BB2005 is for you reguardless of price, and if it's good enough a preamp is a decent investment. It's a Yamaha so likely to be good regardless of price. Semi parametric mids can be uber powerful!

I have a LT1054 I can try my thinking is though that if 7660s and 7660h both have a similar sound… and pressing the phase button makes it sound like a cap charging to a point/freq … that it might be something else in the circuit that causes something audible when combined with the sushibox I think it must be on the ground rather than the power. Awkward thing is that it’s the one pedal you get as a kit without having the schematic

So… Did the power filtering “fix” on the sushibox pedal… and then tried swapping the 7660s for a 7660h both of them silent on their own, high pitched whine together… wired either way oddly switching either the HPF or the polarity seems to reset the whine and it does a Star Wars like power up sound before returning to the same frequency very strange

Ah I read about that - you can jumper pins 1 and 8

So... I have the same noise into either valve pre with two pedals... both with charge pumps. One is a John K Mini XO that is all gain and fizz anyway so you can't notice it unless you're listening... Mini XO uses LT1054CP - freq between 15 and 35kHz - typically 25kHz - so at the lower end that would be audible... The Vong came supplied with a ICL7660s which is min 5kHz, typically 8kHz ... 8kHz is about the sound I am hearing! so I need a TC7660HEPA or TC7660HCPA Mouser and Farnell have it - if anyone else has got a supplier that stocks them.... And given that I may have to pay a fairly large postage on one IC if anyone else with a Vong would like me to buy and post out to you... I mean the ideal is I test it first but...

Question… and you may need to point me somewhere better to ask i have a schalltechnik Vong Filterung pedal I built sounds great, utterly silent in use i have a sushi box London Underground and a similar diy valve pedal, 200v plate voltage - sounds great and both pretty silent in use. put them together, in any order and there’s a high pitched whine. Separate power units and still happens. what’s going on and how can I bug fix? if I stick another preamp buffer between I can partially, but not totally filter it out. I thought I was impedance but it happens either way around.

Looked it up, less than 75ohm according to this https://www.creationaudiolabs.com/redeemer anyway I think I 300 as 300k so my misreading. I currently finding a valve preamp pedal into a 10M input isn’t great!

Comment on Cioks: they are polish and things get lost in translation sometimes Not a comment on Cioks at all but problem solving: Does the DC7 still fire up? If the model Fet has a hot/burnt smell and failed in some way could it be a failure in that pedal, which could be causing a short that has then heated up the DC7 too?

To be fair to them they have to be defensive a wee bit - they don’t want to accept liability and then have you turn around and say that you had a £5m neve desk powered by it and they were now liable for repairs or something. we’re you putting too much voltage into the model fet or something?
