We turned up at a venue, we'd been told there would be a PA and soundman, but the PA was a couple of knackered 12" speakers and a knackered powered mixer, one mic, and a woefully short XLR-jack cable. We had to do our own sound. The next time we were booked for the same venue, we took the bassist's PA and did our own sound. Fine, except there were two unexpected support acts that demanded to use our PA and needed us to do the sound for them. The next time we were assured, 100%, there would be a brand new PA and a sound engineer to operate it. When we got there it was the same old knackered PA and no engineer. WTF?!?

Yeh he mentioned some problem with the gear but I know F all about PAs. Why do speakers need processors? It's all beyond me! Good to see you anyway mate

Friday night at The Underground in Hanley, local for me. We were supporting Spear Of Destiny who were apparently a big deal in the 80s? We've played with them a few times, and they're pretty good We got a very basic line check and for the first couple of songs it sounded like nothing was coming out of the PA from FOH. There was a big cheer when the sound man sorted it out. No idea what went on there but it put me in a sh*t mood. I played OK but too hard so my hands were knackered when we finished, and still are now. We went down well, sold a bunch of merch, got paid extra by the promoter for selling the most tickets (it was sold out) so all good Saturday night we played a private party, someone's 50th. It's not something we've done before, and I wasn't looking forward to it to be honest. A couple of songs in, feeling a bit grumpy, I looked at the set list and realised I'd got another 17 songs to play yet, so I'd better cheer up. I finished my beer and opened the 2nd, and from then on I had a great night!

It was the little amp head that burst into flames wasn't it? People used to beach about the "woolly ashdown sound". No idea where that came from. I can get a woolly sound out of any amp. The AMB stack in my studio sounds awesome

I don't see the point in judging anything by it's price tag. I've gigged a £20 bass and a £700 bass. I regularly take £1000 of cymbals to gigs, but the drum kit I use cost me £150.

We opened the main stage at Off The Tracks festival on Friday night, and then played the 2nd stage on Saturday night. The atmosphere was great, loads of people singing and dancing along, loved my new snare drum, enjoyed a few ales, brilliant!

I'm just listening on headphones at work. I'm sure I just heard some more slightly dodgy drum fills towards the end of "Descending". It's so weird compared to the perfection of 10,000 days. I wonder if he had a bee in his bonnet about doing it all live in one take without edits or something like that, which would make sense if you could watch footage of that take. I really don't like the drum sound either, so much artificial clicking going on Anyway, other than that I like the album so far

I played in a heavy band for a bit and did this. Thankfully the venues were all big enough to have big monitors. Two big 12 or 15" monitors blasting up at you is way better than an amp at the back at the stage

As I said earlier in the thread I do put Radio 1 on now and again and I've never heard two songs in a row that sound the same When I was growing up it was Boyzone, Westlife, Back Street Boys, Spice Girls etc. I'm pretty sure they all sounded the same. These days there's all sorts in the charts

It's probably a majority, but not a large majority, just over half, so "a small majority" seemed to make sense? I am indeed from Stoke and it's actually quite a nice place most of the time

A small majority of Stokies just hate everyone outside their postcode, which would explain the results of a certain referendum Thankfully everyone on the music scene is really friendly and supportive. I think Pale Waves have given a lot of control to management/PR or whatever, and I certainly don't blame them, it's going really well for them! I think they've got some good pop songs too, catchy hooks

Pale Waves are from Stoke, although they do say Manchester in all the press

We have LOADS of T-shirts but the only time I've ever worn one is when I'm covered in sweat after a gig and forgot to bring a spare t-shirt.

I'm right handed. I naturally put guitars on my right leg, but I know it's easier for me to play when it's on my left leg. I often find myself switching to the left leg if I'm in the studio and struggling to nail something

IMO it's a really musical solo, very melodic, moving with the chords, enough repetition to make it sound "lyrical" but plenty of variation to keep it interesting. Much better than the standard blues licks and fret-wombling you get from a guitar solo in the rock genre

There's a drummer I went to school with, not a "name" or anything but in my eyes a world class player. I would never miss an opportunity to play with him. I'm most proud of the fact that he actually wants to jam with me on bass! We had 4 hours yesterday and after the first hour he really started to let loose. I was grinning so hard my face hurt

I had a few minutes to myself in the studio the other day. I liked the drums so I played some bass on top. Not my best work but I love the sound of the drums from just one stereo condenser mic
