1. Cool, I'll have a listen later. I have something similar for Bohemian Rhapsody somewhere (in MP3 format) bit weird listening to individual bits fo the song but fascinating how it all links together as a song.
2. Did a gig where Robbie the Pict came up and played the harmonica on a song with us
3.
Has anyone made a good Telecaster guitar style bass ? the only ones that i have seen are made by Shine. The scale length is shorter,it should look like this IMO.
I've got one of the Shine Tele basses (see pic) - they're quite a heavy bass as the body is solid ash, quite nice to play and looks fairly decent Some details Hard Maple bolt on neck with rosewood fingerboard 34" scale length 21 Frets, ash body, Die cast tuners, custom bridge. 2 volume and 1 tone controls 3 way switch forgot to add - the one in the pic isn't mine I pinched the pic from a web site
4.
I've never been in a band with people i don't like or get on with. I don't see why you'd want to be there in the first place if you really don't like someone..
Sometimes the band initially comes together really well and everyone gets on, then as the band improves/progresses (read playing bigger and better gigs) you start to see differences appearing as band members' reveal their true colours. For me, over time, it was our drummer, bigger ego than a guitarist, and he wouldn't be told what he should be doing (loved his cymbals but couldn't produce a consistant groove for blues/RnB/rock) left me to do all the donkey work. Band eventually split not surprisingly, bad feeling all round.
5. Fantastic looking bass there Chris, glad it's worked out for you
6.
geddy lee jazz bass mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
+1 I have one of these and it's a very versatile bass. looks and feels great, plays really well and is a decent size for me., as I'm a short arse Also have a US Jazz from around 1980/81, which is a bit on the big side for me, but has a really slim neck.
7. First ever gig was Queen at the Glasgow Apollo - Dec 79 - Crazy Tour followed the next night by Joe Jackson at the Edinburgh Usher Hall. Queen were absolutely amazing, I was up in the gods and the whole balcony bounced up and down - still have a program from that gig somewhere

9. How about this short scale Epiphone SG from GAK ? http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/469
10.
Really? I'm digging that tone! Anyone put one of those J retros in a geddy? I am interested I've got to say...
Yep the signal output is less than my USA Jazz dated from around 80/81. The sansamp helps increase the output without pushing the amp to its limits
11. have a GL as well, it's a versatile bass but does suffer from weak pups, the narrow neck is fab for small hands though solved the pup issue with a sansamp bass driver
12. Have never met him but have seen Queen 3 times over the years, Crazy Tour of 79 at Glsgow Apollo, Hot Space 82 Edinburgh Ingliston and the final Magic tour 86 at Newcastle. My all time fav band it has to be said
13.
Its prob not such a big problem but I'm going to have to write out all the new chords tonight and then play the new paterns for the first time in the audition and as I said before I really hate auditions as I get nervous so I can just see me mixing up the old patterns and the new ones - still I suppose its all learning !
Here's a thought - if you tune your bass up (or maybe down) then you can play the songs in the same position ? (bit like the capo idea but tuning instead) You should be able ot play the songs as you've learned them for the audition then if you get in the band go away and relearn at your leisure ?
14. Rod Vaughan in Dundee is good http://www.rvguitars.co.uk/
15.
My drummer recommended me to listen to some USA blues bassists, in case it would help in forming my sound in my rock-band.. So... I already know Joe Bonamassa's (the one, already mentioned here) ex-bassplayer, but I wanted to ask you chaps, if you could recommend any more artists (maybe already mentioned here, in this thread..) with serious bassplayers - those with good sound and interesting playing.. I'm mainly looking for, let's say, a bit more techy/choppy blues bassists, playing modern blues (mixed with other genres..), not the traditional bluesy-stuff..
Check out Greg Rzab - on early 90's Buddy Guy stuff, Damn Right I've Got the Blues album Also if you can get a copy - Paul Rodgers A Tribute to Muddy Waters, one Pino Palladino if I remember correctly Cheers Fraser
16. Used to have a Megane coupe and could fit my rig (see my the pic to the left) in the back and a bass on the back seats. Changed recently to a Mazda RX8, great car to drive and the boot is quite spacious too but haven't put anytihng other than a couple of basses in cases in there so far. I reckon it would take the Superfly cabs easily, must go and try that this weekend.
17. Ahh, band politics......... Has finally killed off the blues band I've been in for the past 3 years or so. Drummer and keys have basically ruined what was a decent band starting to get into bigger and better gigs by not: Rehearsing regularly, refusing to do gigs further afield, drummer especially asking for outrageous money for gigs (although he said he doesn't do it for the money honest ), drummer thinks he's the dog's dangly bits (he's not) I feel your pain AM, band politics suck big time Rant over
18.
Idle curiousity here, nothing more. Does your drummer slow down? Or speed up? Or do they keep consistent near-perfect timing?
Yes, yes and you're having as giraffe aren't you our drummer has admitted he doesn't listen to the bass so I don't listen to him on the other hand it leaves me with most of the rhythm work to do. He also doesn't seem to use his bass pedal much, a constant complaint form sound guys who mic him up - fortunately I don't have to work with him all that much and hopefully in the very near future not at all
19. All over the place Edinburgh shops - Red Dog Music (old Sound Control) / Guitar Guitar / Scayles - also secondhand stuff from Gumtree and Duncansons pawn shop (got my Status there) Online - Dolphin / Sounds Live / Thomann Not fussy as long as the price is decent
20. Or how about Babooshka - with added bass content http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz07Hf5htfY...feature=related
21. Thanks JimH Rob has come back to me and advised it'll take 3 to 4 weeks to get the new neck ready for the bass. Plenty of time to work out what I want to do with the body. Maybe thinking of changing the colour from its dark mahogany natural wood to a solid glossy black. Keep most of the hardware as black but have the control knobs as silver. Would look quite effective I think. Cheers Fraser
22. Many thanks for all your comments guys, very much appreciated, I shall be replying to Rob's e-mail tonight to kick off the process. Will also ask if they can refurbish the body as well (it looks like the previous owner used it for slap as there's some marking/damage below the end of the neck. Maybe a bit of sculpting or contouring to disguise this would be in order) Dr Dave that is a stunning looking bass, the new top on it is amazing. It's given me something else to think about in doing up my bass. As I said previously I'll try and put up some pics (in the build forum) Cheers Fraser
23.
I actually preferred the tone of my old wood necked Series 1 to my graphite necked S2, however, so I'd agree its very subjective! The graphite was a far nicer playing surface and felt great, though.
Thanks Wil - you're right, basses are subjective, one man's bass is another man's plank of wood
I've got a graphite Energy and it is f***ing fantastic.
Stan, now there's an endorsement Thanks for all your replies, it looks like I'll take the plunge and go graphite Will try and post some before and after pics Cheers Fraser
24. Thanks Chris, That's just the sort of feedback I'm looking for Cheers Fraser
