1.
Despite various members going on to form and join acts such as Jigsaw, Flying machine,Trapeze and Judas Priest, the original band still exists but is now called Pinkert.
Ah, didn't you hear that Ert has also left? However, the remaining member seems to be enjoying some success as a solo act.
 2.
The Lemon Pipers of "Green Tambourine" fame don't smoke pipes nor do they like fruit.
I don't know about their smoking or not, but it was their intense dislike of fruit that led them to construct a rapid disposal mechanism for any fruit that inadvertently fell into their hands. If life handed them lemons, they went straight down the lemon pipe.
 3.
Spin drive speed of 7200 RPM is your best bet. I use WD Caviar BLACK
Are those "portable" or "desktop" drives, or internal drives housed in an external case?
 4. Olympic clotted cream, back and maple, natch!
 5. Given the best practice of having separate system and audio drives, I was wondering how you other DAW-ers had this set up. I may be replacing my current system - single-drive Windows PC with the current project's audio files on a USB stick (!) - later this year. I'm considering PC and iMac/Mac Mini. As I see it internal is only an option if I go the PC route, and although this makes the setup nice and tidy, it precludes taking a project with me for laptop "field recordings" (my piano is in another room). Supplementary question: if you use a lot of samples/virtual instruments, where do you keep those? Cheers!
 6.
Actually it was a simple mind, Joe Kerr who changed his name to Jim Kerr. The rest, as they say, is history.
Mercifully he chose to change it to Jim rather his first choice of Wayne.
 7.
Johnny Cash is not legal tender. Anywhere.
Not even in a condom vending machine?
 8. What about selling downloads through iTunes, Amazon, etc? I think the reason the spotlight is on Bandcamp is because they've come forward with ways to provide their sellers the info they need for compliance... but will Apple and Amazon do the same?
 9. I meant if the VAT I've paid out in creating the track (added to studio rates etc.) is now reclaimable, that is likely to be in excess of the VAT I collect though micro-sales. EDIT due to replies coming in sooner... yes, so music-making becomes potentially cheaper as our costs become VAT-reclaimable, but at the price of increased admin, and music-selling goes the other way as we either absorb the VAT or pass it on the the customer.
 10.
I can speak with a little authority (as an ex VAT man). It sounds like a pain now but a guy who can handle a digital studio will not have any trouble with an Excel spreadsheet. Also, if you are not VAT registered you are forking out VAT on a whole load of things. When first registered, you can claim back the VAT on any goods you have on hand when you register - going back 4 years. You're not going to change it so why no consider the advantages of being VAT registered. I'll give answers happily, when I am certain of the facts. Do not ever make the huge mistake of listening to the man in the pub ad forming your opinions on that basis.
Interesting... but surely it's not the case that if sell a single download including VAT of say 10p, but have paid out £100 of VAT in creating the track, I'm owed £99.90?!?
 11. Without disputing that this sucks, one minor point: the VAT registration threshold is on gross turnover rather than earnings/income. Not that that affects yer average microbusiness that's going to get hit by this. The law was apparently designed to stop businesses in high-VAT countries avoiding tax by "operating" in a low-VAT country. To see this as A Bad Thing is fair enough IMO, but the method chosen is a sledgehammer that cracks not only the nuts it's designed to hit, but also all of those small business that politicians keep going on about helping. As noted, it won't be cost-effective to collect the pennies from the micro-businesses, and I wouldn't be surprised if the HMRC turn a blind eye to the minnows. I used to be a freelance software developer through my own company (employees: one) and I remember being randomly selected for an inspection, and the HMRC officer grumbling through it about they shouldn't be bothering with me when there are bigger fish to fry. Interesting times!
 12.
I confess I didnt watch it The question I feel that nobody has answered though was Did anyone have a music stand with them Running to hide now
Yes! Ellie Goulding used one for Blame it on the Boogie :-) On the show in general... for me, what it misses is the diversity of the regular show. But then I thought of a parallel with the Proms, where the last night is a bit of a celebratory knees-up that doesn't really give a taste of what's gone before. And if you can't have a knees-up on NYE...
 13.
Annual snore-fest "Jool sHoots an Annie" always goes out live, every NYE. Rumours it is recorded in October are totally bogus.
The source of these rumours is that a number of bands are booked into the TV studio for a date in October, in the presence of a public audience. Many of these bands - and indeed the members of the audience - are then reportedly seen partying elsewhere at the time of transmission. However, the October date is a rehearsal, and all of the acts and punters are recalled on NYE to recreate their exact moves. This can be quite expensive, as the BBC has to cover the cost of lookalikes to be present at alternative NYE festivities.
 14. Hello! Teessider in exile here, but from the Durham side of the Tees - you Boro dwellers would be nothing without our railway!
 15.
Obviously earlier composers had no concept of any kind of recording at all and would no doubt be astounded at our audio machines on the one hand and appalled, confused and infuriated by what passes for music in the twenty-first century on the other... I bet if John Adams were dead he's be turning in his grave now, or something.
In the early 20th century Arnold Schoenberg wrote an essay called (I think) The Radio is the Enemy in which described how he anticipated listening habits would change for the worse once music became available on tap in a lossy format. Plus ca change...
 16. It's certainly eye catching - and I'm not just talking about the price! Go on, make an offer...
 17.
I don't know how true this is, but I have heard that Classic FM has to feed its music through some very heavy-handed compressors because the dynamic range of good-quality orchestral recordings is typically much greater than on most pop and rock recordings, and they can't risk car drivers being scared out of their wits if there's a sudden jump from pianissimo to forte!
Yep. Compare BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM... R3 is pretty much unlistenable on the motorway. But then few composers wrote/write with motorway journeys in mind.
 18. Much appreciated, thank you.
 19. Thank you for listening!
 20. I found Kontakt Player (including VSL Strings) and Orangetree's new Evolution Stratosphere virtual Strat under the tree... https://soundcloud.com/richardsearle/glass-ramparts Thank you Santa ;-)
 21.
I like drums and I like bass but I don't like Drum and Bass. Go figure.
You like more than one drum with your bass.
 22. Mm, I'm liking that track... time for a late letter to Santa, I think!
 23.
It's been brought to my attention that this document is copyright material and is for sale elsewhere online, so I can't post a public link on a forum to download it for free without being in contravention of that copyright. Apologies all round!
What if you scraped the Fender logo off?
 24. Look everyone, this has to stop! I'm at the point of "moving on the unplayed basses to raise money for recording", not "moving on the unplayed basses to raise money for another bass"! Would a relic 5-string be too much of a paradox?
 25. I'd give it 10 minutes before you re-post...
