You could do the gig and near the end of the set announce that this will be your last gig as the band decided to sack you 2 weeks ago but you didn't want to disappoint people that had bought tickets. Makes you look good and them look like the bunch of T****rs they are. Dave

My 89 Thumb NT has EMG's. The pre-amp module failed few yrs ago and the only available option from Warwick was to fit the MEC pre-amp. I can't hear any difference. I had the work completed by luthier Chris McIntyre who came highly recommended. He was 1st class altho he won't deal directly with Warwick after he had a big falling out with them over parts and prices. Spot on about the necks and playability. One of the nicest basses i've ever played. It would take a lot of coaxing for me to sell mine. Had it since new. Dave

Think that is actually a valid point worth considering. Its not just the band that would be let down, its the organisers and those that have bought tickets. Hadn't really looked at it that way. If i was to do the gig i would as always give it my all as the audience were not the ones that did the dirty on you. An interesting viewpoint that would make me think twice about it. Dave

I remember that post as well. Didn't realise it was same band. I def couldn't work with that kind of attitude / behaviour and that would have been the deciding factor on me leaving a band. For me playing in bands is mainly for fun. Sure the money is a bonus but if i'm not enjoying working with people then its no longer fun and what's the point ? Why put yourself thru that.

Wouldn't be something silly like active / passive switch in wrong place ? Just trying to throw in some suggestions. I'm not a big fan of Ashdown to be honest. Always found them a little bland. The only one i liked was a Spyder version that had a great tone thru an Ampeg 810. Can't remember what the volume setting was like tho as it was a rehearsal room. Tone was fantastic but not a lot of variation on it was its only downside. Dave

If its a 600w into 8 ohms its probably putting out a lot less maybe around 300W. If you add another 8ohm cab you'll get that full on 600W power. Or use a 4 ohm cab. Pretty sure i played that venue back in 80's during a wee mini tour. Dave

If he fell out with you then the frontman can expect the same thing as he argued with both of you. Sounds like an overgrown bairn that needs a good slap. Rest of the band come across as spineless jerks to say the least. If he's not a good drummer based on your description you'd think they would just replace him if he's the main problem. Does he own the PA. ? You're best out of it now i reckon and move on. Dave

If they had any sense they would have raised the issue saying the band are moving in a different direction and they didn't think it suited you. At least raise some concerns that possibly could be addressed. I find it odd that this came out of the blue. Most musicians know something isn't quite right with a band and can sense an on-coming change of some kind. Obviously not in this case. If they had gone down that route and still asked if you could do the gig you might have been more acceptable. For me i would have simply said no. If you leave under those circumstances rather than you deciding the band isn't for you then i think its a slap in the face to you and your abilities. Let them worry about the gig. The fact the band seemed to be doing well surprises me as well. Why split a band that seems to be working. 2 gigs a month is about right for me and i'd be happy with that. Time you looked for a new band i reckon. Walk away and let them get on with their own mess. Dave

Depends on band and circumstances. I've given notice that the band was changing direction from what i originally started with and it just wasn't for me anymore. If gigs ahead i'll offer to do them. Some bands can accept that and others not so much. Other bands where we don't live near each other and very rarely rehearse for whatever reason i've messaged the full band stating my concerns and wish to leave. I've found that doesn't go down very well with most so it would be a last resort for me now. Other times i've had an offer that's too good to refuse and exactly what i was looking for and explained that to current band. As long as you are upfront and honest about it then it usually goes OK and most people i know nowadays accept it. I always offer to complete any gigs we may have and allow them time to find a replacement I guess there's never a good way to leave a band. Dave
