  1. Rare Earth - not heard of them since i got the feebie flexidisc thing with NME and they were on with another band that slips my mind at moment. Liked them
  2. I've been to see tribute bands but not originals band. I was trying to keep it to originals bands otherwise we'd be looking at local pub bands on the list. Here's just a few of the tributes i've seen last few years MacFloyd - every year for past 5yrs (i know the bass player) Ultimate Bowie - every year for past 3-4yrs. Best tribute band i've ever seen Led Zep story - on / off past 10yrs cause i know them Talk of the Devil Ozzy tribute - cause i know them Status Quoing - cause we supported them and will be again in March Hellbent Forever - was there to see Talk of the Devil supporting them
  3. Might have been done before but this was doing the rounds on my FB page so thought it would be fun to do it here. First concert - Thin Lizzy - Glasgow Apollo 1976 Last concert - Rush - Glasgow SECC 2013 Best concert - Pink Floyd The Wall Earls Court London 1980/1 Worst concert - Whitesnake Glasgow Apollo 80's Loudest concert - Nazareth Perth 2002. Seen the most - Rush Most surprising - YES with Trevor Horn Next concert - Not known.. Wish I would have seen - Genesis Seconds Out tour or Lone Star with John Sloman
  4. I'm so jealous. They are one band i wish i could have seen. Dave
  5. That looks like a very low action. Gorgeous bass. GLWTS Dave
  6. I'm not a fan of downloady type things Dave. Stems from when i bought vinyl and you got a package that you read and feel in your hands. I eventually succumbed to CD which is now my preferred way of listening to music. Because of that 70's mentality i still like to have a book in my hands. I feel as tho i've actually bought something..........plus it fills a space on the bookshelf that was just lying empty waiting for the right book. That book will be yours. Dave
  7. Still waiting for a hard copy of the follow up Dave. Any idea when that's coming out. I'm not into the kindle thing. I like real books that i can hold in my hands Dave
  8. Think Kenny Driscoll was the 1st singer on the 1st album then John Sloman took over for the 2nd and 3rd albums. That was probably the start of the band you were involved in Dave
  9. Think that was where i first heard them.
  10. Wee trip down memory lane and remembered this amazing band from 70's John Sloman was a fantastic singer / frontman.
  11. Why not self promote the early gigs. Get yourselves out there as a great Level 42 tribute and the promoters will come knocking as they did with us. We haven't gone with any of them at the moment but one guy we are interested to get more detail. I don't know his details as our singer deals with all that and passes it on as and when we meet for rehearsals.
  12. Yes saw it a while back and wasn't impressed by the way the staff were treated. No honesty and if they treat their staff like that then how are they gonna treat their customers when things go wrong. Dave
  13. Have to say that is tight. Accent doesn't come across at all altho i'm Scottish too. Playing is first class from all the band. Can't fault it anywhere at all. Only Tribute band Promotion i know is Shock City in Glasgow who might be worthwhile contacting. They put on various shows with differing styles across the board. I'm not really a Level 42 fan either but you guys would be good to watch just for the bass alone. Think the slap is fine when its not just showing off doing constant bass solos. Mark King does it well during the songs. Wish you all the best guys Dave
  14. Worst (funniest) audition i had was for a Celtic Rock band where i was one of about 6 players being auditioned in one of the bands (large) house. Line up was drummer, guitarist, singer / fiddle player with female fiddle player and a 2nd female vocalist. I went in late afternoon, saw the previous guy leave and was there dead on my allocated time. I had prepared the songs they asked which were mainly covers with a couple of originals thrown in. I set my gear up (all lightweight kit) and as i was setting up the 2 girls confirmed to all in the room that the previous guy was perfect and ideal for the band. I carried on and altho not my usual style of music i think i did ok. I didn't get the job which was fine altho i was a bit annoyed at the girls adoration for the previous guy but never said anything. Thanked them for the audition and left it at that. A year later i got a call asking if i was still interested. The bass player had now moved on. At that point i told them i wasn't happy with the girls comments while i was there and found it inappropriate during an audition and not sure i could accept their lack of respect. That and i was now with another band. I have to admit that i did take some enjoyment from the conversation. That is the one and only audition i've failed. I guess i must have been 2nd choice then. Dave
  15. Even back then in the very eraly days of Rush Geddy's playing was exceptional for a rock bassist. Dave
  16. Drink coffee and talk bass a lot but at least you would both get along cause bass players are all nice people. You could try covering these 2 guys.
  17. Nice bass you've built and amazed at how little it cost you. Not being a huge fan of punk movement but my recollection of Bruce Foxton was with a Ric bass but i have seen occasional pics with the P bass. No matter what that bass sounds very nice and put me in the mood for a P bass or maybe a nice Ric but that's another topic Dave
  18. Nice really enjoyed that. Like the singers voice, its kinda lazy but very catchy. Band sound nice and tight altho i'm guessing its a mime for the VID here. VID clip made me laugh a bit too. Overall i'd be very happy with that song guys. As for the bass it sounds good and we need more details if its just been built ? Thanks for sharing Dave
  19. There are other brands that do it better in my opinion. Sandberg and Yamaha being the ones that come to my mind. Dave
  20. I'd seen some short clips of the St Catherine's gig but the one i posted is the full concert and it sounds good altho you can hear a lot of fret noise from Geddy. Just makes it real from back in the day. Dave
  21. I was of course joking altho i do the FB search if its available usually to check out any band VID clips
  22. Think that's why i might go down the route of a decent P bass and sell my P Deluxe bass.
  23. If anything like me they'll have done a FB search to see who you were and what you are up to. Then i'll youtube any bands you've been in. From there i'll google you to see if there's anything shady about you. Then i'll speak to friends in local Police Force and get all the dirt i can on to force you to play in my band. Simples really Dave
  24. Now that's really not nice at all and i would have done the same as you under those circumstances. I don't even get why they would do that in the first place. Some people are just weird sods. Dave
