  1. Gig pressure is a wonderful tool to be used against lazy band members. 😁 Well done. Dave
  2. WOW i just don't get this at all. Its gorgeous and for this money its a no brainer. If i didn't have my Thumb NT i'd be taking this. Its glorious. Look at the sheen on that body wood. Warwick playability for the price of a Squire cheapy. Whats not to like here. Dave
  3. I think i'm lucky that Glam rock is always regarded as a fun party style and most people eventually succumb to it after a few drinks. 2nd sets are usually good fun. We have found that in a new venue with people that haven't seen us before that they tend to sit with their phones out taken pics and vids and see it more as a show. Then the drink kicks in and women just love to dance and as i've always maintained if you can get women to dance the guys will follow. Same goes with filling a venue. If you can attract women the guys will follow. I guess we're just predators at heart OR easily led. 🤣 If i go to a Blues type band (i don't really class you guys as blues TBH) i tend to watch the musicians ability which you guys have an abundance of talent in your band. Think you'd find yourselves in demand over here. You have a style that bridges blues and popular music that i like. Dave
  4. Did a charity gig tonight with BLOCKBUSTARZ for the Heart & Chest Foundation. We don't usually do charity events but as our singer is a nurse and it was done thru her work we said we would. We halved our normal fee to help things along for them. The organiser was hugely thankful. Venue was up two sets of stairs 1 floor up but that wasn't too bad. Large stage too that we weren't expecting. 1st set was a bit slow altho we had dancers for most of the songs. Few wee mistakes tonight which is unusual for us but they were on the new songs that we've only played once before so reasonably OK that we know what went wrong with them. Nothing drastic just the band noticed but we covered it well. Lots of people taking vids during 1st set so that was good to see. At the break the club organiser came into the dressing room and asked if she could book us and arrange something before we left tonight. Now booked into the club in April 2026 at full fee. She was surprised at the fee but in a good way and said she has more expensive acts in the club but they normally use a local agency so the costs would be higher. Anyways 2nd set and things just went up a notch with the floor full from the 2nd song to the end with lots of singing along and specific dance routines for Time Warp and Tiger Feet. Lots of great feedback at the end too which is always good to hear. Few guys from the club even gave us a hand to take gear out to cars. Sandberg VM4. Shure wireless. Keeley Bassist comp. Handbox WB-100 Amp Mesa SW 210/115 cabs Lovely warm tone with lots of depth and top end mids as and where required. I've returned to the HB amp again and loving the tone. That's the last 3 gigs now. Might take a look at a Barefaced cab possibly a 212 cab. Think it would sound great with the HB and even the Mesa TT800. Easy drive home altho i got lost at roadworks in Livingstone and took a wrong turn. Thank feck for Sat Nav. Next week its Beat Generator in Dundee. Love the venue but those 3 flights of stairs are a killer for us old folks 🤣 At least its only backline tho. Dave
  5. yep there are some great ones on the market these days. Dave
  6. Think the difference here is he chose to wear it that way to make a statement rather than mistookenly 🤣 All credit to him there. Dave
  7. I'm more into classic and prog rock but had an opportunity to help out some guys with a punk covers band a few yrs ago. I enjoyed the energy and power and stayed for 3 yrs until the band slowed up and stopped at Xmas there. I was never a punk fan and many friends laughed when i said i was doing it but seriously Punk is so much fun, its great to play. My point being that maybe try some other styles and it may just give you that little boost to make it work and reignite your interest. If not then sometimes a break is what you need. Hopefully the new band thing takes off tho. All the best with it Steve. Dave
  8. I think we've all experienced putting some form of clothing on backwards at some point in our lives. When its underwear you have no option but go commando to sort it out. Its life and as long as we can all laugh at it then just enjoy the fun memory. That and the fact i like a good fun story when its someone else that's being laughed at. 🥰 Dave
  9. If they need any advice where to visit i'm happy to share my travel experiences. I think i've been to almost every area of Scotland over the years. Apart from the extreme islands of course. Hopefully they get some decent weather as most years its wet and windy or sunny and windy or wet and sunny or any combination. I once had a weeks holiday at Loch Ness, 1st week in June and it snowed the first morning then glorious warm sunshine in afternoon and i mean jeans and T-shirt stuff and then rained late evening. Cannae beat the Scottish weather. So far this year its been a glorious Spring and typically 20 oC during the day which for us is a heatwave. 🤣 Dave
  10. And there's that Scottish sarcasm making a return trip. Couldnae beat it wie a big stick. 🤣 At the time i was very young and just accepted it as fact. How my views have changed over the years. 🤣 Dave
  11. 😂😂😂 I remember years ago one of the older guys i worked with came into work and after a visit to the loo he realised he'd put on his wife's underwear. The obvious Scottish sarcasm followed and when asked how he managed that he explained. "It was still dark when he woke up and didn't want to wake his wife. His underwear was in the drawer next to his wife's and he opened what he thought was his drawer and took out underwear not aware he was in the wrong drawers. (excuse the pun) He was almost retirement age so we all believed it was a genuine mistake so think yourself lucky it was only a minor mistook you made Daryl. 🤣 Not 100% sure why he even told us. ? Think i would have kept my mouth shut. Dave
  12. Now that is class. Dave
  13. I think today is a good day for that story Daryl. I'm intrigued now. 😂 Dave
  14. Rock & Roll Daryl. 🤣 Dave
  15. Not sure i could ever sell my 89 Thumb that i bought new in early 1990. Such a wonderful bass to play and mine never leaves the house these days but its a keeper. As already mentioned the necks on these basses are sublime and those EMG's are simply one of the best pick ups i've ever had on a bass. I think the original owner has safeguarded his pick up with a bit of tape as i've seen some well used ones where the pick up has dulled at the top edge where the thumb tends to rest or maybe it was simply for comfort. GLWTS Dave
  16. Sometimes its a choice between cupboard or disabled toilet. That's when we clarify our contract that states changing room. Most venues provide decent changing areas that we can lock and have enough space for 4 guys and a lady. Because we all wear outfits for the show we need somewhere secure to leave our normal clothes when on stage. Some would add that my stage clothes are my normal clothes but that's only at weekends and what i wear at home is my business. (see my avatar) 🤣 Dave
  17. A proper dressing room. Far better than a cupboard at the side of the stage for 5 to share. 😂 Dave
  18. I know guys (bands) that arrange gigs in foreign countries as part of their holiday. They hire any gear they might require or they know people there that let them use their gear. You need to have good mates in foreign countries to let you use their gear. I think their mates actually arrange the gigs. Its usually Spain to be fair. Dave
  19. And it would be full if BCers wanting to meet the famous bass player. If not the other side of the country I'd make the effort to be there with my autograph book in hand Daryl. 🤣 Dave
  20. Always great classy pics you have. Dave
  21. Superb and huge respect being able to take on work like that without regular rehearsals. Takes a good musician to be able to do that. Not sure I could do it. Dave
  22. I might give our drummers QSC 12.2 cabs a we shot with my bass. He has the 12.2, 3 way 15 cabs and subs but we generally just use the 15's. Dave
  23. I tried one at guitar guitar with the new Orange 12" cabs a few yrs back now and was hugely impressed with how deep and warm it sounded. Are they a hybrid amp with valve preamp and class D power or something similar. ? Dave
  24. New venue for Blockbustarz last night in Croftfoot Bowling Club in Glasgow. This was a special event for us as singer Lynn was brought up in this area and it was a special birthday for her and both her sisters came along with partners so we had an honoured guest Pat Bonnar goalkeeper for Celtic football team and he looked like he was having a great time along with everyone else. Small stage so both singers on the dance floor which I'm never comfortable with and that was justified when an over excited girl knocked over singers water which ran straight towards a mains bar. Quick mop up by club members and off we went again. Very hot last night even with the 18" fan on full I was still soaking wet. All part of the job I guess. All seemed to go well and we test run 3 new songs which were played well enough for a first outing. We just need more plays to get to the point you don't need to think about what you're playing. 2 x 1hr sets extended for the encores. Club wants us back same time next year as they are fully booked. Decided to use the Handbox WB100 again for this gig and what a difference an all valve amp makes. It's full, deep and warm sound just fills a room far better IMO and I'm always able to hear myself better. Had the gain set just right where I got a nice full warm tone when aying a little lighter but when I dug in for some songs I got that slightly overdriven edge with a bit of clank to go with it. Had my Keeley comp on just to limit my volume. Sandberg Vm4 into WB100 and Mesa cabs. Just glorious. Nice wee one hr drive home mostly motorway with no hold ups. Happy chappy this morning and will be using my HB more often. I think I'm just a valve amp guy. I always get a better sound. Dave
  25. Sometimes it's the right decision. We've had to make that decision on a few venues we've done. Various reasons but simply didn't work for us. Dave
