  1. A proper dressing room. Far better than a cupboard at the side of the stage for 5 to share. 😂 Dave
  2. I know guys (bands) that arrange gigs in foreign countries as part of their holiday. They hire any gear they might require or they know people there that let them use their gear. You need to have good mates in foreign countries to let you use their gear. I think their mates actually arrange the gigs. Its usually Spain to be fair. Dave
  3. And it would be full if BCers wanting to meet the famous bass player. If not the other side of the country I'd make the effort to be there with my autograph book in hand Daryl. 🤣 Dave
  4. Always great classy pics you have. Dave
  5. Superb and huge respect being able to take on work like that without regular rehearsals. Takes a good musician to be able to do that. Not sure I could do it. Dave
  6. I might give our drummers QSC 12.2 cabs a we shot with my bass. He has the 12.2, 3 way 15 cabs and subs but we generally just use the 15's. Dave
  7. I tried one at guitar guitar with the new Orange 12" cabs a few yrs back now and was hugely impressed with how deep and warm it sounded. Are they a hybrid amp with valve preamp and class D power or something similar. ? Dave
  8. New venue for Blockbustarz last night in Croftfoot Bowling Club in Glasgow. This was a special event for us as singer Lynn was brought up in this area and it was a special birthday for her and both her sisters came along with partners so we had an honoured guest Pat Bonnar goalkeeper for Celtic football team and he looked like he was having a great time along with everyone else. Small stage so both singers on the dance floor which I'm never comfortable with and that was justified when an over excited girl knocked over singers water which ran straight towards a mains bar. Quick mop up by club members and off we went again. Very hot last night even with the 18" fan on full I was still soaking wet. All part of the job I guess. All seemed to go well and we test run 3 new songs which were played well enough for a first outing. We just need more plays to get to the point you don't need to think about what you're playing. 2 x 1hr sets extended for the encores. Club wants us back same time next year as they are fully booked. Decided to use the Handbox WB100 again for this gig and what a difference an all valve amp makes. It's full, deep and warm sound just fills a room far better IMO and I'm always able to hear myself better. Had the gain set just right where I got a nice full warm tone when aying a little lighter but when I dug in for some songs I got that slightly overdriven edge with a bit of clank to go with it. Had my Keeley comp on just to limit my volume. Sandberg Vm4 into WB100 and Mesa cabs. Just glorious. Nice wee one hr drive home mostly motorway with no hold ups. Happy chappy this morning and will be using my HB more often. I think I'm just a valve amp guy. I always get a better sound. Dave
  9. Sometimes it's the right decision. We've had to make that decision on a few venues we've done. Various reasons but simply didn't work for us. Dave
  10. Well that's different Daryl.
  11. Ooh that is so good. That bass sounds fantastic even on my phone. Will get a better listen tonight when I get home.
  12. I'm on the Join my Band and Bandmix mix. Had success with both. Also looked at local Facebook groups. There's generally one or two groups in your area. I just searched FB for musicians wanted in my area. Once you get a foot in the door and you're reliable and friendly enough you will find offers coming in from bands you meet looking for a bass player. I'm 65 and up until recently was in 3 completely different band styles. Glam Rock, punk rock and classic rock but was all a bit much and cut it back to the Glam band which is more successful. Don't be afraid to take on a band that's not what you listen to. It's a foot in the door All the very best with it. Dave
  13. I may have given the wrong impression. I have adjusted the Godin bass pick up heights to balance volumes to my preference. My query was more about how some passive basses are a lot louder than others. What @Baloney Balderdash said about windings is probably the reason this Godin is louder. Taking away the position on the bass it seems that a precision pick up is generally louder Dave was just curious.
  14. I have a passive Godin PJ bass which is very loud matching my active basses in volume. I have to select the active button on some amps to stop distortion. It was a lot worse when I got it as pick ups were too close to strings and I lowered them to prevent string slap. Question I have is what makes them so much louder than my jazz basses. Does the precision pick up generally produce a higher output ? Just curious. Dave
  15. Thoroughly enjoyed that BRX. Both great versions but for me being old school rock and prog I prefer the original 1st version with proper bass rather than 80's synth bands / bass. Dave
  16. It is a beautiful looking bass. That body wood is gorgeous. Surprised this hasn't sold yet. Dave
  17. Sounds like a good choice of 60's classics there. Maybe turn into a permanent position altho circumstances maybe a bit odd at first. All the very best with it. Dave
  18. When i used to gig my Warwick Thumb i found it had a little neck dive and bought a strap with suede on the inside which worked really well. Dave
  19. Oh i see what you mean. My Thumb bass has the name on it. Dave
  20. Waterloo is a floor filler. Usually 1st song in 2nd set and it just has a feel good vibe to it. Adding Mamma was based on audience response to Waterloo. Guitarist had played Mamma in a previous band and said it went down really well. Looking forward to playing it at the next gig. Dave
  21. We already do Waterloo and the new one was Mamma Mia. Just great songs to play. Not something i ever really paid much attention to until i started playing them. Some nice little slides in Mamma Mia that i really like. Getting the tone right for it isn't easy either as it sounds like he's muting slightly over the bridge area but could be wrong there. Dave
  22. Because we don't rehearse much i actually quite enjoy them. We all bring sandwiches and juice or coffee and sit and have a chat for a while in the middle where we catch up on what each has been doing and gossip really. Its as close as i get to hanging out with a bunch of mates like the old days when i was young After one new song by ABBA which i thought was pretty standard stuff for any bass player the guitarist told me i'm the first bassist that he hasn't had to show how to play the bass line in that particular song. He said the same with Wizard Wish It Could be Xmas Everday when we first did it. Maybe because my background is in Prog / Jazz-rock i just find them relatively easy. ? Dave
  23. Cracking pic as always but i'm now curious what the 269 signifies ? Dave
  24. Our rehearsal yesterday went well. Got thru 6 new songs with some we changed singers to see how they sounded and WOW they worked out really well. Ran thru the songs we don't normally play but keep them in the song list to allow set variation for different type of venues plus allows us to make changes when we return to a venue. Some clubs have members that don't like to see the same show as they did the last time. Used my Sandberg MarloweDK for few hrs then changed over to my VM4 for the 2nd half of the rehearsal. No real reason. Dave
