  1. That's a great start to a classic rock set. Currently doing I Love R&R in our 70's Glam Rock covers band but its the original 70's version by Arrows. Good fun playing it. Dave
  2. I remember trying that song in one of my first bands back late 70's and it was hard getting everyone on same page plus those vocals are just sensational. Great singer, great band.. Any other snippets on what you are doing i'd be curious. Dave
  3. Love that song by Heart. Bought the album when it first came out. Well done and hope its as good as it sounds. Dave
  4. Oddly enough i've found same with my VM4 where D & G strings are slightlly lower. I recently started using D'addarios 45, 65, 80, 100 gauge mainly because mate gave me them when he gave up playing bass and when i changed back to 40-100 gauge again is when i noted what you are saying. I've also found that using my own Mesa rig its a lot better than the EBS HD360 / Ameg 810 set up in studio. Not sure if its because my Mesa cabs have horns that let the higher frequencies come thru better. I found the original SS Sandbergs were worse than the nickel D'addarios too. To be fair i have found this with other basses over the years. Dave
  5. 100% agree. I'd rather listen to Jeff Berlin than Jaco or Stanley Clarke. Dave
  6. Could you post a pic of the flush mount type as i dont think i've seen that version of straplock. Dave
  7. Forgot about Mockingbird basses. Once saw a pic of Neil Murray using one. Loved the look but not the neck dive. Also saw Neil using the Kramer DMZ 4000 bass that i loved the sound of. Dave
  8. Think there's a wee Ric theme going on there. Dave
  9. It has taken a side stream but the original question was more about what famous bass players basses do you like. When i started reading the thread and was about to comment i mistakenly took it as signature basses. I have the Thumb NT that Jack Bruce had and have the Geddy Jazz signature. I did have the WAL fretless in 80's when i was into Percy Jones. Now i'm looking at Geddy's Ric bass more for the tone and look. Might even sell my Thumb NT to fund it as not using it these days. Dave
  10. So dId jack Bruce hence my comment "deserved" to have theirs, whereas Percy Jones deserved one as in should have had a WAL signature. Dave
  11. For me these guys deserved a signature bass.
  12. The live version of Complete Control by Clash has so much energy i would put it up there with my fav classic rock songs. We do Into The Valley by Skids too but i've never really seen them as a punk band. You can see where Big Country came from tho. Again a lot of energy in the songs. I saw Big Country support Bowie at Sunderland football park many moons ago and Big Country was by far the better band that day. Powerful, energetic and great musicianship. Dave
  13. Proves you're doing it right Rob. 👍
  14. WOW that's some price for any Mesa amp. If i didnt have my Mpulse 600 and a TT800 on order i might have gone for this too. GLWTS and i dont think it will be here long. Dave
  15. I bought the PH212 in that Guitar Guitar sale and its an amazing cab. The 412 cab must be absolutely thunderous. These cabs have such a depth of tone (sometimes called "heft"). You dont just hear a Mesa cab you feel it without losing any clarity thru the range. I've gone Subway but i'm keeping my PH212 cab cause its just brilliant and i can pair it with my other Mesa cabs. Great cab and great price. GLWTS. Dave
  16. Any chance you could post a pic of your Ric bass. Looks like an unusual colour. Dave
  17. Glasgow and Central belt area of Scotland. I definitley recognise the band name but who knows how. Dave
  18. Did you tour or gig up this way ? Dave
  19. Did the band achieve much ? The name sounds familiar. Dave
  20. If i did that i'd end up falling asleep in the bath and i'd be there till wife got up in morning by which time the water would be cold. 😂 Dave
  21. Nice bass. What is it ? Dave
  22. I'm quite lucky ............ i dont know how to slap and never play it. Does that qualify me as a genius ? Dave
  23. Altho i like to hear solo bassists doing some slap i just think its had its day. There are so many amazing bass players doing slap that there's nothing new in it for me. Not saying its easy and it takes a lot of talent to do it well but for me it doesn't do much. I tend to move on to the next VID clip. I'd rather listen to someone do a bit of two handed playing or something a bit more melodic rather than rhythmic percussion. Think there's a fine balance to get it right. I am certainly no master of slap by any means as its a style i've just never really been into so i'm probably a bit biased there. Dave
  24. Same here Dave. Thoroughly enjoy the drive home as roads are usually nice and quiet. I always have my coffee and biccies when i get home tho. Dave
  25. For a minute their i thought that was Geezer Butler with the blackist black bass i've ever seen. So much black it could almost be a black hole. Very nice indeed. Never seen one like that before. Dave
