  1. AC must surely have the final say on what he hears on stage. If you have a good on-stage sound it makes you feel and play better in my opinion and altho he is playing far larger gigs the concept is still the same. I take for granted that our sound engineer knows what i want to sound like and that he replicates the sound i have on stage to FOH. Is that not what they are paid to do. Obviously each venue will have its acoustic differences that need to be compensated for but that's why they get paid the big bucks. Dave
  2. Not quite the same as a singer going on about his political views between every song tho. I would have walked out on any concert i was attending if singer started that rubbish. I'm there to hear the music the band sell in whatever format. If they want the singers political viewpoints to be heard then put them on the albums between the songs. You can bet they wont sell as many copies with that drivel between songs. Dave
  3. So so nice. Love Zon basses and that's one of the nicest ones i've seen. Dave
  4. There's always that religious undertone in Scotland more so Glasgow area. To be avoided at all cost. Dave
  5. Yep Hue & Cry were a bit like that. Mate was their original backing vocalist and spent the early years with the brothers writing the songs together. Mate was also a fantastic guitarist and played on a few of the early songs but never got the credits he deserved. As soon as they became very successful the band incl mate were put on a fixed contract and slowly bumped over a couple of years. Pretty poor as i remember him being very much involved in song writing process back in their early days before recording contracts. Because of the way they treated the band and my mate i went right of them especially the main singer Pat Kane. My opinion of him is to strong for BC. Dave
  6. They've stayed together thru thick and thin. For me that's a sign of a good friendship in a band. Dave
  7. I dont mind musicians and singers having a political view but i prefer they keep their politics and music seperate. I go to a concert to hear the music not someones personal viewpoint on whatever subject. I'm not a big enough fan of U2 to really know Bono's personal viewpoints on politics or whatever. I just know them as a band. Dave
  8. "All The Right Reasons" for buying it Dave
  9. I bought one of their albums and was quite impressed how good it was. Every song was a good listen. Dave
  10. I use the passive input on my Mesa Mpulse and that brings the sound to life witha little overdriven tone whereas the active circuit drops the gain and gives a far more smoother bass tone no matter whether passive or active bass it still has the same effect. I tend to keep my active bass volume down a bit to match any passive bass i might use on the night. Dave
  11. I'm not really a U2 or AC fan but i just think what U2 does seems to work for them as a successful band. Altho this thread has been quite amicable I have seen other threads on BC or maybe it was TB where there was genuine dislike for what he does in U2. Not specifically Adam himself but more his playing and sadly people tend to link the playing to the person. Over the years i have to admit that i really enjoyed the bands i've been in where i was playing the simple rock basslines cause i could focus more on just enjoying myself than trying to think about each and every note that comes next. Sometimes its just nice to play some straight 8ths. Dave
  12. Yep i quite like Nickelback too. Dont see the issue if a band does what it does well. Dave
  13. It might be this Mariah ‘doesn’t do stairs’ This rumour was kicked off by Alan Carr who, following Carey’s appearance on Channel 4’s The Friday Night Project in 2008, claimed that she demanded a “staircase assistant”, explaining, helpfully, that their one job was “to check the stairs for her to see whether she could walk down them”. Further fuel for the fire came in the form of a famous paparazzi photo of Mariah stacking it down the steps of her former fiance James Packer’s yacht in six-inch heels. Perhaps then, her caution is understandable: less a diva move, more a health and safety precaution. Verdict: TRUE
  14. If it works .......leave it well alone. Dave
  15. Its just the Basschat conversion factor. We go off topic to retain interest and eventually come back to the original theme. Its what we bassists do. Dave 😂
  16. Love my Geddy too. It just works so well and the neck is a dream on it. By far one of the best necks i've ever played. Dave
  17. Looks very much like a Geddy Jazz there and a full electronic drum kit. Dave
  18. Tuning is where everyone turns the fiddly bits at the top of the neck to create an illusion of superior competence when in fact all they are doing is changing the channel on the telly.
  19. That's pretty cool. I like that story. Thanks for sharing a happy moment. 👍 Dave
  20. Think Alan and Chris from Overwater (not too far away from Moffat) were the 2 main luthiers there but it was Alan that organised it and such a nice guy to talk to. Wasn't a huge event but always an interesting and varied display of basses with a celeb bassist to chat and give a show. Saw Steve Williams and Steve Lawson there. Seems to be a Steve thing going on there. If you are close enough to visit you wouldn't be disappointed. Dave
  21. Always liked what he brought to U2. A perfect fit for them IMO. My fav song New Years Day. Great bassline and the song that made me sit up and listen to them.
  22. Gorgeous looking bass. Love the colouring on it. Alan does make some incredible basses. Thanks for sharing. Does he still run the Bass Bash at Moffat. Not heard of it in quite a few years. Dave
  23. Nice bass what is it ?
