  1. Got our first gig tonight after 18mths in the middle of Glasgow with the 70's Glam covers band. COP26 has meant many roads closed, Orange walk parade in George Square at moment, probably football traffic from Parkhead, and a sink hole has also appeared in city centre with roads being closed off, road outside the venue is now a bus gate so no cars allowed to enter. NCP car park next to the venue will cost us £26 each for over 6hrs parking. Plus general Saturday shoppers traffic. All this to contend with before i even get to the venue. Sometimes its not worthwhile gigging. Dave
  2. Curious as to outcome of the original question by @bubinga5 ??? Dave
  3. You might be able to find some youtube clips on how to play this. Maybe its beyond some people's skills. Who am i to judge others ? 😂 I'd be happy to send you my notes on it. Dave
  4. Awwww Nawwww not again. Another tern in this thread. Dave
  5. This thread is taking another odd turn. 😂 Dave
  6. Think you might be taking it a bit too seriously. Dave
  7. The measure of a bass player is on how long it took you to learn it ? Dave
  8. WOW that's like 3D imagery. Bit scary with Halloween time coming up soon. 😂 Now that i see it in bass notation it becomes a lot clearer. Not sure why i was so worried about learning this song. Looks pretty easy when you see it laid out like that @ubit Think i'll play this tomorrow night for first time in Glasgow with the Glam Rock band after 18mths silence. (nice wee gig advert slipped in there) Right i'm away to learn it. Dave
  9. Just a bit of fun about the song 4'33". I had no idea what the song was till i youtubed it. Dave
  10. Its good to see the fretless solo in that score. Makes for a refreshing change.
  11. Yep there's the bit i couldn't get. All sorted now. 😂 Dave
  12. Has anyone found a bass tab for it yet. ? Dave
  13. I struggled to hear this when i did my youtube search. Its quite a forgiving bassline at the start but it fades into the background the more you hear it. Have to say i was rather taken aback by the lacklustre ending. Its a style i've been trying to learn for many years and been so disappointed by my own results. Dave
  14. Is this the John Cage version ? I struggled with the bass tab on that one. Dave
  15. Let us know how you get on with it. Dave
  16. What is this 4'33" you talk off. Never heard of it. Dave
  17. This is who we use The trees do block the audience view tho. Dave
  18. Dont you guys have a line of security in front of the stage. ? 😄 Dave
  19. You do realise that if i'm at any of your gigs i'm gonna stand at the front and continually talk to you. Dave
  20. I jammed it once when i was asked to come on stage for a song by another band. Managed to play it all except for the low octave in the solo. I didnt know the song well enough to pick up on that low octave. That was back in 80's. Dave
  21. I was never a big fan of slow songs in a set when doing covers but playing them allowed me to learn more feeling in a slow song. Playing a couple of notes per bar is easy but getting the right feel to a slow song can make a lot of difference in the bigger picture. Currently doing Waterloo by ABBA and its been quite a nice eye opener. That guy was good. No matter the song i like to learn a bit about the bass player to understand his style and thought process when playing. That's invaluable when doing tribute bands but its a bit geeky. 😄 I've played in bands that the music was nothing that i would ever listen to in every day life. Tried the function band once and it just wasn't for me. I prefer cover bands that want to play a style of music i enjoy. That can be anything from classic rock to punk to Prog. I've not had a lot of success with pub covers bands to be honest. I find too many debates and fall outs thru song choices altho i generally go along with majority when deciding. I will voice my opinion if a song just doesn't fit with what the band are trying to achieve. Dave
  22. I've ran out of likey emoj's today cause this thread has been one of the most interesting i've seen in a while. Dave
  23. I think that was @TimR's point that he has already listened to the songs on the radio or elsewhere that he knows them in his head. Once you know the songs like that its far easier to learn them. I found that when i was learning the 70's Glam songs because they were the songs i played all the time as a teenager that when it came round to learning them i was getting thru them far easier than i thought. Dave
  24. Exactly how i approach any new song i have to learn. I listen until i get a feel for it then i just play along with it again getting the feel and then i just write it out and i file it in the big black folder fro future referance. Writing it out helps me memorise the structure of the song. Dave
  25. I'm guessing you've studied music in some way and therefore chords etc are probably intuitive to you. I wish i had continued my lessons when i started but the guy i was using said there was nothing more he could teach me and i should just go and listen to songs and learn them. On hindsight i think he was a very limited teacher and 18mths of lessons wasn't enough for me to learn chord structures. I have picked up more of that as time went on but some of it is down to natural ability and playing lots of styles of music. If you asked me to play a chord structure i probably wouldn't know the correct notes these days. That's where learning music is a big advantage that i've missed out on. Playing could have been a lot simpler if i learned it in more detail. Dave
