When I make a mistake I figure I can either stop the song and make the band play it again until I get it right, or just keep playing and in four bars or so it'll be forgotten. So I usually go with the latter.
I honestly believe that if you ask an audience "what was the song we played before the last one?" they'll not remember anyway
 3.
I am using a Fender Jag that has 2 pots which are the master volume and the tone pot. I seen this item on ebay and was thinking of removing the tone pot which I rarely use as its not overly effective and replacing it with one of these. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Artec-VTC-Onboard-Ac...=item5add388e19 Does anone have any knowledge of these or if this upgrade would be possible. Cheers Steven
Not seen these before but the upgrade looks simple enough - manufacturers website is at http://www.artecsound.com/pickups/index.html. I think the hardest part is liable to be finding somewhere to locate the 9v battery that is needed to run the pcb. You'll need a 30mm depth to mount it into and will also need to replace the guitar jack socket.
 4.
no they're only on the OC-3. The OC-2 is analogue and comes complete with warbles. The OC-3 is polyphonic so you can play chords and it does octave up and down as far as I remember as well as distortion
The OC-3 is different to the OC-2... when used as an OC-3. The mode button on the far RH side of the OC-3 has an OCT 2 position that sticks the whole thing into OC-2 mode. As much as I originally wanted to, I can't slag it off as not being as good as my old OC-2 that died of beer spillage...

 6.
Hi All, I've already posted this in the 'effects' category, which means that loads of people have read it, but so far no response. I've got an old CE2B this i need to up the rate of the chorus sound on for a more "lesley" effect. I've been searching around for how to do this, and apparently it's possible by replacing two resistors. I've got circuit diagrams and I think I know which ones to alter, but not sure about the values of the new resistors. Any experiential/educated guesses would be appreciated.
Resistors are dirt cheap, you *could* just experiment with different values until you find the combination that suits you best. If I was doing this then I'd probably solder a couple of leads from where the resistors were originally soldered and temporarily put a couple of pots in their place (using centre and one of the outer connection points). Once I'd achieved the effect I was after I'd disconnect the pots and use a meter to measure the resistance imposed by the pot and then stick in the appropriate value resistors as the permanant solution. As a starting off point I'd probably choose pots that were double the value of the resistors I was looking at changing (so if it was a 4.7K resistor I'd use a 10K linear pot). That way you have the option of varying the resistance by 50% in either direction. Sorry if this sounds vague but you're looking to adapt a piece of equipment to make a sound that you have in your head - not the easiest thing to come up with definate answers to HTH

 8.
I have to check the date in the receipt and see if it's still under warranty. If not, and in the case of being just a dry joint, how much am I looking at in terms of paying someone to do it?? I'm a terrible DIY guy also, any other possible diagnosis other than a dry joint?
How long's a piece of string? I am not a lawyer, but regarding the warranty, there is possibly some legal flexibility in the 1 year if it is a dry joint as it would have been there since new and therefore renders the goods of unmerchantable quality. The actual "fix", assuming it is a dry joint, is a 5 second job - it really depends on how long it takes an amp tech to find the problem joint(s). It could be a few other things but, having listened to your WAV file, I'd start off looking for a dry joint.
 9.
Doh, ok it happens, we all get things wrong... near the end of a long and complex intro section at the start of last nights gig I messed up a change that led to a few moments of chaos in the ranks on stage, I was mortified but the guys laughed it off. I hate totally messing stuff up, how do other players here deal with bad uns at gigs, emotionally later rather than at the moment you do it as you are usually just doing damage limitation... Of course some lucky bastards have never messed it up
Depends. I'd class myself as a "fairly lucky bastard who works with very lucky bastards" If the audience have paid £x each to hear live music then they deserve to get to hear all the right notes in the right places. If they aren't paying out of their own pockets then they get what they get and they can put their complaint in writing for later consideration...

I have read about various acids, but it all sounds a bit heavy duty. Thanks, Gary
Coca Cola strips plating off in about 24hrs. For goodness sake though, try it out on something that doesn't matter before commiting yourself in case you don't like the effect...
 11.
My 1001RB has about 1 year old, never gave me problems. Now it's making quite loud crackling noises, something like this: http://simscience.org/crackling/Sounds/magnet.wav A guy from the studio where I rehearse who repairs amps said it's not coming from the speaker and sounds like a dry socket!?!? Any ideas??
Could be a dry joint. If you have any warranty left on it then get it back to the dealer - if it's a dry joint then it's always been there and will be covered under warranty. If it's out of warranty then either you (or someone else) has the lovely task of tracking it down and resoldering the offending joint.

If I'd seen this back then my immediate reaction would have been "looks alright, but is it cheaper than that Kay that I'm selling for £79 ?"...

 15.
but I always advise students to become an active musician and try applying the stuff they're learning in a practical/musical setting, not just in their lesson.
Couldn't agree more with this. We have a number of Rock School students in my local area - I've seen them playing in a "classroom environment" from time to time and they're reasonable. The best one by far though is a young lad who has struggled time and time again to pass his exams but has been a regular at one of the "plug n play" nights for the last couple of years - he's still at school and his Dad has to bring him. Now he is going to be a superb player in a few years. Rock School and others have a valid place in providing the techniques and theory, but actually "doing it" adds the flexibility, flow and feel that you can't be taught.
I do find it amusing that some of us poor people have to make do with knackered old basses, whereas some rich people are prepared to spend alot of money getting the same effect faked
Yep. 18.
HI Ian, Took me a while to take the plunge and get onto basschat so welcome. I also have an ESP Ltd 6 which I bought 2nd hand from ebay. It was my initiation into 6 stringers and have since managed to persuade my wife to buy me an Overwater fretless 6 for my 50th. I found the ESP spacing a little narrow compared to my other basses. You do get used to whatever you have but I kept missing the strings with my right hand when playing faster runs across strings. Not an issue with my Overwater which has same string spacing as my Warwick. Other than that it has a nice low growl from B & E strings. Doesn't cut through very well in a rock band set up although to be fair I didn't spend a lot of time setting amp correctly. All best Dave
Hi Dave, You really MUST have a chat with my wife... I do have a tendency to miss the G if I play faster runs but I just blame the drummer... I use mine mostly in folk rock type setups so it's a little bit more forgiving than in a full on "in yer face" rock setup - I tend to use the Ibanez for that sort of thing because I can play it without thinking about it. Ian
 19.
Been reading a lot about this amp. Seems to be a favourite amongst the forum, but is it enough to gig with, both in terms of FOH and as my monitor? I've been thinking about getting a practice/home/headphone amp, but if the Studio 110 could do it all then that would be great! Could it replace my TNT150? Thanks
This is probably where I get screamed at , but this is my experience with Line6 kit... About a month ago I refreshed my backline and ordered an LD750 head and an S110 combo. The rationale was that I could use the LD750 whilst gigging (I was totally sold on the ability to preset tones for different instruments and recall them at the push of a button) and the S110 would be great for studio use. The kit arrived on a Friday and was hastily checked (BAD idea) for a wedding gig the next day. Well, you don't need to be Agatha Christie to write the next chapter... Saturday evening and our hero enters stage left to raptuous silence as always. All goes well for the first 30 mins or so, they're a fairly quiet audience but at least they're not moving towards us... Then I notice some distortion creeping in, about 10 mins later the volume dips and then everything gently fades like autumn leaves on a gentle breeze... Luckily we always DI all backline so our sound engineer was able to compensate FOH and increase my foldback. I was not best pleased when I got home, repackaged the LD750 for return and then took a closer look at the S110. Just over two hours later it started to clip... Needless to say, the whole lot went back to the retailer who refunded the S110 and replaced the LD750 with a Peavey Tour 700. Now, common sense tells me that it was "just one (or two) of those things" but it kinda seems to me that packing so much cleverness into a small metal box is just a train crash waiting to happen. Yep - I'm probably totally wrong but I'm married and used to that... I haven't replaced the S110...yet... (look upon my iron willed self control and be in awe!) but I know what I'm not going to buy...
 20. Excluding practices and gigs, probably two hours a weekday as a minimum, perhaps a couple more at weekends - kinda depends on what work is coming up. We don't have a telly...
 21.
Howdy, A hypathetical question. If your wife(a non musician) gave you an ultimatum. Stop doing your gigs or we will have to part company. what would your answer be? bear in mind you live a very comfortable life with a good lookin girl(who you love dearly) who is also very pleasant and who has enough of her own money as not to drain your resources. any (hypathetical) advice? Would love to hear it also bear in mind "you weren't a musician when I met you" was the conversation starter "but Ive just got better" was the reply
I play in two bands, do dep work, am involved in various local folk clubs (3 weeks out of 4 each month) and am doing some recording work as well. Some of that pays, some of it doesn't but gets me more dep and studio work that does. The recording work will result in an all expenses paid trip to Belgium for her next summer when I go on tour. Anything I spend on gear comes out of what I earn as a muso (or "tart" as my wife calls it!) and anything left over goes back into various things in the house. Easy answer for me... bye then
 22.
On a topical note no one's mentioned the 'C' word yet. With Christmas coming up and gigs in the offing my function band is again having to gloomily contemplate putting at least a couple of 'Christmas' numbers in the set. So, my pet hate is playing any 'Christmas' number ever done by any artist - they are all without exception appalling.
I thought using the C word would get me banned...
 23.
I was so glad that that one was not mentioned by anyone to play. In fact the guitarist point blank refuses to put it forward as "it's been done to death".
humph - Wish they'd done it to death before "whoever it was" bunged it on their album "whatever it's called"... ... still, at least it shows that I'm a hop and gravy muso....
 24. Cool Does anyone wanna buy my knackered old Vauxhall Vectra for the cost of a brand new one? It ain't rusty or chipped..... .... it's roadworn....
 25. <shudder> I'd go for the sandpaper and knackered elbow any day of the week... My last foray into the world of using a router nearly cost me a finger and has left me with a decorative scroll edge...
