Wow. That's an impressive selection of gear to take with you! I'm impressed.
It's impressive until you try lifting the toolbox.

Blimey! Wouldn't it be easier to just put a link up to the YouTube homepage and say 'everything on this site'?
Can you imagine what I'm going to be like next time I go into a rehearsal studio etc. though? Lol. I'll certainly be finding space in my gig bag for a multimeter and socket tester.
Careful or you'll end up carrying a toolkit as daft as mine...
If the original question was unsuccessful that would've been my next question I'm fed up of fiddling around with covers, so I fancy the idea of racking the head in a 4u rack case, then have a strip light of some sort on one of the slots in the case, and then either a vent panel or a draw where I can keep stuff like the speaker leads, spare strings, small tool kit and batteries. Then on the back I'd have one of them rack mount power stations (rack mount glorified extention lead?) so I can power the light and amp from one switch, and have spare power for other things if I need it
That's all doable and you could even put the drawer in the back of the rack to save space. You could also get one of these...
Thanks, the amp's got threaded holes in the bottom for the 'official' tray. I was either going to use them, or maybe use super strength velcro, but using the feet holes is a good idea. The amp is really, really light anyway, so I don't think there'd be a problem with the shelf flexing.
Once they're bolted into place, those shelves can handle a fair bit of weight because any tendency towards downwards 'bend' is going to be thwarted by the bolts on either side. If the amp has already got coldserts in the bottom then that'd be the easiest route to take when it comes to mounting. Perhaps make a paper template the same size as the amp and mark the holes on it so you drill the tray in the right place?
Can you still get them by any chance? Looking at the possibility of racking up, but can't find rack ears anywhere. British Audio Service used to sell them, but they don't now
You can get generic rack ears that'll fit if you're prepared to fiddle about and drill new screw holes in them so the align with the mounting holes on the amp.
I'm getting really paranoid about this now. To the point of testing all my other gear... Anyway, upon further investigation, it appears the earth wire was originally secured to the metal around the power transformer. Ran a few continuity checks and the ground side of the input jacks also goes there. I've reconnected the wire and all *seems* well. Plugging in a cable now shows that the ground bit of the jack is connected all the way through to the earth prong on the mains plug. Which is the same as on my Warwick Pro Fet. Noticed nothing different when I turned it on with a bass plugged in (and still not dead) but the whole thing has unnerved me.
You're describing exactly what you should find here. Nothing to be nervous about, you've fixed one problem and tested the rest of your kit to ensure it's as it should be.
I want to rack mount my SWR Headlite amp. The SWR kit is $100 plus shipping and the dreaded import duty and VAT. Do the following things work with anything, or has anyone used something different with good results ? http://www.audiospares.com/product.php?productid=371 http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/16499-1u-19-rac...penn-elcom.html http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=262-535 The 3rd one looks good. Thanks !
I've not used these to rackmount an amp before, but I've used them in datacentres where we have ended up with non rackmountable equipment and they work just fine. I'd go for option 1 actually - being a solid plate makes the thing less likely to bend than having a perforated plate. You'll need to find a way of securing the amp to the shelf - that can be as simple as drilling 4 appropriate sized holes for the feet of the amp to sit in or you may want to get more sophisticated and pop the lid off the amp and finding suitable empty spaces to drill a hole through so you can bolt it to the shelf.

Yes. That green and yellow scrap of wire is potentially the only thing between you and disaster!
It's on these kind of gigs where I find 3 things to be really important. Firstly, knowing a lot of tunes, and secondly/thirdly-having a good ear and having a solid grounding in theory. Sure, you can get by with your ear alone but if you can preemp the changes and understand various common progressions(I'm not just talking about just root notes,I mean the full chords or at the least major/minor) then it will be much easier than watching the guitarists hand or that split second in the first verse where you are listening for the chord before you play it.
Knowing a lot of tunes doesn't help much if you're not playing covers, at that point your only chance of survival is using your ears, interpretation and a healthy dollop of theory. My biggest 'failing' is not knowing huge numbers of tunes - comes from not having a TV, being a habitual Radio 4 listener and having a relatively narrow spectrum of musical interest. On the other hand, it does mean I'm often the first local choice (or only choice ) within my niche.
Lo all, I would like to change my contol setup to Vol/blend/tone on my two jazz basses and have researched it a fair bit and come up with , A/ Bourns 500k from Allparts Or B/Alpha 500k from AxesRus The chatter online is Bourns, but they are out of stock at the mo. Is the difference worth waiting for ?
My own feeling is that a pot is just a pot. It provides a resistance that varies as the knob is turned. If it was going into something that was moving constantly (or a lot) whilst playing (a volume\expression pedal or a wah wah) then it might be worth using a higher quality pot. The reality is that bass controls are rarely used whilst playing and are always set 'by ear' and I've never really understood the predeliction for super duper pots.
Also, the vibe seems to be to earth the pickups somewhere other then the lugs on the blend pot to give an "unloaded" series type earthing when blending. Apparently it "pans" smoother between pickups.
All the earths go back to a single point on a JB - the sleeve on the jack socket. With the distances involved (a matter of inches) then it really wont make an audible difference.
Lol! Indeed, lesson learned.... Being given such strict & helpful upfront information made me think it was gonna be a high quality function act I would be working with.... I couldn't have been more wrong!
I'd guess that the location of the gig also added to your expectations as well. I was asked to dep a gig many years ago at Crystal Palace. I got very excited, learned all the material and then found out that the Crystal Palace they were talking about was a pub in St. Albans...
What a lot of players not schooled in these disciplines don't realise is that, often, a good listening player can stop on a dime not because he knows when to but because he hears that everyone else has doen so before he hits another note. He can also get lost and find his place without anyone knowing he has done so because he remains in the right key and plays confidently etc.
Absolutely. Nerves of steel and the reflexes of a cat. ...or was it the other way round..?
They thanked me profusely afterwards and said I played great, but I for one will NEVER perform with them again!
Ah. You got lulled into a false sense of security. I treat unreharsed dep sessions like I do other road users - only they know what they are doing, treat them with caution and be prepared to slam the brakes on...
What are your experiences of stand-in gigs? Did you ever do one at last minute and had to busk it? Did the band supply you with a set list beforehand, then didn't stick to it? Did they spring different and unfamiliar songs on you, that were hard to busk and made you feel uncomfortable? Did they change the keys of the songs you had learned for the gig?
Yep, pretty much a normal state of affairs for me round this neck of the woods. Having a set list prior to the gig is ok, provided they're covers I can pull up on YouTube and have a listen to beforehand. I've played at a local music festival for the last two summers and on both occasions ended up deping - the first year I had two hours notice but last year I was asked to play with the band following us just as I was dismantling my rig... so about 10 minutes notice. All part of life's rich tapestry.
Or they bought a stock of pre RoHS components cheap and are still using them...
Doubt it's that - any non RoHS compliant components would go into items destined for outside the EU market. -
I wonder why they ignored it?!
Maybe they're looking at replacing it with something else and the cost of retooling the production line and buying in RoHS compliant components was too high for the life left in the product?
