1. Had an SVT rig in the late 80's - it was early 80's manufacture I think. From a time when there was only the 300 watt head and 8x10 cab that was called SVT I believe. Without a doubt the best amplification I've ever used-full,loud,articulate and looked amazing too! Have used later models which were all okay too, although these were USA manufacture. (cant vouch for the far eastern stuff) There has to be reason why some 40 years after they were first introduced the Ampeg SVT is still an industry standard - look on stage at festivals, gigs,TV shows etc and you will see them still being utilised by top bands, hire companies etc. Reason I had to get rid of mine was portability mainly, with the amp head weighing nearly as much as the cab (or so it felt!). Otherwise I would still be using it now.

Hi

Hi - am just over the bridge in Hessle near Hull. Play a few do's over your way, usually weddings /corporate stuff etc. Welcome to the site.
3. Welcome from that forgotten bit of Yorkshire, the East Riding. Is MOR music still open in York? Used to always pop in at Bulmers for s/h stuff-had a few bargains from there over the years!
4. Years ago was in a band doing ..ahem.. Simply Red stuff. ( Look, times were hard, okay?!!) Always had trouble with 'Fairground' for some reason. (Maybe due to me hating their material to begin with.) My country band does a cover of '5 o clock somewhere' by Alan Jackson. Great straight forward tune, except the last break which is over a count of 5 instead of the usual 4. Its for some reason really hard, especially when singing too. Too many years of playing 4 to a bar in everything I guess.
5. Set your PVR's NOW!!!
6. Road worn prices- P.Bass $1200, Jazz $1250. Are they having a laugh or what!
7. Just watched great programme on Motown's 50th anniversary presented by Martin Freeman. Featured some current footage of the Funk Brothers, Bob Babbit etc. There is an extended repeat showing on Friday 9th on BBC2 at 11.35pm (The Culture Show) which should be even better.
8. Showing my age now... David Paton in Pilot Graham Gouldman in 10CC Mani (Stone Roses/Primal Scream) Gaye Advert (Adverts) Roger Glover (Deep Purple) Bee Gees (Maurice?) and maybe occasionally John Entwhistle??
9. Why not just get a 4 ohm 4x10 cab? e.g.Peavey TVX which are great for the money.
10.
as i posted earlier i did'nt think rico sounded that good(bless him)but loved (no pun intended)the song he sang.did he sing it originally or who did?would like to get hold of it.
Rico sang 'L-O-V-E', originally (I think) by the great Nat King Cole. And to add my sixpennorth... Dave Edmunds,Annie Lennox,Duffy,The Hold Steady all great. Ting Tings okay. Adele okay, but does anybody else think her pitching is sometimes a bit out? Martha&Vandellas did great considering they're pushing 70,although like previous post some of the lead vocals were a bit odd! Kelly Jones and Dizzee Rascal ok but not for me. And what an ace performance by Jools and the band, especially Dave Swift who was fantastic for whoever he played for-the versions of 'dancing in the street' and 'nowhere to run' were so well done IMHO. Would love his job! Overall I thought a really good show, far better than the Elton John O2 gig on t'other side.
11.
That's a bit pricey I think but that's only my opinion of course.. As a comparison, I bought a 1986 Aria Pro II RBS Special fretless on this forum for approx £120 earlier this year and that was an excellent bass, quite similar to the Yamaha you're looking at..
Hey, think that was my Aria! Glad you like it, a great fretless!
12. A lot of engineers prefer to use a seperate DI box - in case the bass amp stops functioning then they still have a signal to use out front. I have a BSS box which I've used for years,no probs.
13.
whats the difference between a sterling and a normal stingray??
Smaller lighter body, different switching options, thinner jazz style neck etc. Great basses!
14. My NYE gig for the past 10 years has been very WAG friendly. However, it is a job I'm going to do and therefore I regard it as a bonus to be allowed to take my girlfriend. If I was a waiter/barman etc don't think this would be seen as okay, especially if they were taking the place of a paying punter. We celebrate New year properly on the 1st anyway! Its my choice/decision, so no probs.
15. Also my wife pointed out David Van Day's mangina......! Eurrgh......
16. You could try RMJ speaker reconing in Leeds. www.recones.com Worth a go?
17. Could be a Custom Sound combo - they used speaker grilles like that. Or possibly Elvic, Mckenzie or even an RSC/Linear model. Reckon its probably mid/late 70's.....?
18. Great air drumming on the T.Rex clip!
19. Looked a bit Precision like to me? And don't you think he looked like Paul Whitehouse?..!!!
20. Great set list, but Katie Melua? Is it me but just don't get whats going on there.
21. Used D'Addario EXL 170's for over 10 years after trying most of the rest. Never had any probs whatsoever-just consistent quality strings that last really well.
22. Assuming you are playing the song in Eb, the missing note you are looking for is 'A'-this is the major 3rd of the F chord in that part of the tune. Hope this helps!
23. Voted for Harrogate.
