Electrovoice SX200 PA speakers

Here's something unusual- a Peavey Equalized Direct Interface! Err... that's a passive DI box to you and me. This works by connecting between the amp speaker output and the speaker cab. Gives a balanced output via the XLR socket. Has a 'timbre adjust' screw on the side too! Made in the good ol' USA. I've had this for years, seem to remember using it with an old Peavey head that was n't equipped with a built in DI. Would maybe be handy for anyone running a vintage setup? No real idea what its worth, so any interest/offers welcomed. Cheers

Pair of EV SX200 speaker cabs for sale. As you probably know, these have been the industry standard for a while in portable quality speakers. I have actually 2 pairs, but as I never use (or need to use!) both lots think it's time for one pair to go. They were previously owned by a cabaret singer, and have since been used in an acoustic guitar/vocal duo,so have never been thrashed! Condition wise they are okay to good - obviously they have been used but are still very tidy/presentable. They sound great, especially for such compact size and weight (14.5 kilos each). Some specs for you - 300 watts(rms)@8 ohms / 1x12 inch speaker and a horn per cab. Frequency range 50 hz to 20 khz.Sensitivity 101.5 db Speakon and jack inputs. Moulded polymer construction with integral handles and pole mounts (with fixing screws). These cabs seem to regularly go on ebay etc for £375+. Am looking for £260 the pair. Will include a pair of speaker cables too. SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Based in East Yorkshire, but possible help with delivery within say a 60 mile radius or so for fuel costs. Cheers.
I've just been in a very similar position: joining my first band and wondering what to do for stage gear. For me, quality rather than cheap, but also on a budget points straight away to the second hand market. What I've ended up with is an almost new Hartke LH1000 head (cost me £350), two pretty battered but servicable Peavey 210 TVX cabs (about £60 each) and some serious cables from an ebay seller called bassic bits to join it all together. Bassically , I've spent just over £500 to get IMHO a pretty serious rig, with the flexibility of only using one 2 x 10 cab in a smaller venue. But that's just what I've done - there as many opinions as there are members on here. Happy hunting!
IIRC the Peavey cabs are only 175 watts rms@4 ohms, so there is a real danger of damaging the drivers with your Hartke if you give it some stick. The Peaveys are IMO a great sounding 2x10,just take care with that volume knob!

When I broke my left arm last year, I started gigging again playing bass parts (with my right arm!)on a Roland D5 synth. It was either that or not eat for a couple of months! My band was very understanding, and helped with gear etc. Did n't find it too difficult as have some piano knowledge, and at first was quite liberating not having a bass strapped on. However, after the novelty began to wear off it got a little frustrating so could n't wait to get back to the real thing.
Sean's picking it up from me I think, so no need to post it yet. That problem then falls on his shoulders
So given the fact that I drove 70 miles to deliver the cab to you, and also that Sean is collecting it from yours, maybe a few quid spent on some packaging is n't so bad after all?
So the "Double Midget Bottom" (hereby referred to as DMB ) is the subbiest thing I'd need for the sub 350Hz solution, although it is still not a true sub? The PLX 1804 looks like a good amp actually, and lighter than what I'm using now. If that would happily push the DMB for some louder bigger lows than the standard DM, then I'd consider it. I always liked that my current QSC has the filtering option on it, but couldn't tell you if it made an audible difference to the sound, just thought it would be more efficient for the amp? I suppose with the extra power, the filtering becomes less important? In other news, still waiting for a reply from Sean about picking the Compact up, just to keep people updated on progress! By the way, what the hell did casapete do to the box I received the cab in? There's only half of it o_O
The other half was falling apart when I got it. Parcel tape and cardboard should do the job!

Jimmie Vaughan Steve Winwood Both powered by Hammond pedals in a live situation. Saw Little Richard a while ago with 2 bass players (one who looked a bit like Prince funnily enough). Also recent showing on BBC4 of a James Brown concert from St Lukes - 2 bass players in the band.

Had an early Ashdown ABM500 - very reliable and okay sounding amp, though not over loud for its 500 watt rating maybe. Matching 4x10 cab was n't so good for me-heavy and a bit dull, also a sod to lift as the handles were not placed in the correct position, causing the cab to not balance properly when being lifted. A pal's combo had the speaker replaced twice - think the early models suffered from this a bit, though I believe this was later addressed. Always thought Ashdown stuff was generally okay, especially the MAG range-great value for money gear.

I have used one of my bands 1x15+horn ASS PA cabs on numerous gigs, and loved it! Same goes for amps - how come you can buy a good quality 6 maybe 8 channel mixer, say 500 watts per side output and with digital FX built in for less than a single channel bass amp of similar output/quality etc? My Yamaha mixer amp sounds fine for bass to these ears!

We usually do it in G, in whatever style takes our fancy but often swing for some reason...

Who was playing a wedding at Minster Lovell on Saturday Night?

Nor me - was playing at Bartholomew Barn in Sussex with a Barefaced cab on loan! -
The Rumour (as in Graham Parker and the...) Early Music Man user.
Great player - saw him with Graham Parker a few times in the late 70's. Stingray and Acoustic rig I think, proper old school sound! Looks like most of The Rumour in the TOTP clip of Nick Lowe too.

Just caught a bit of the interview on Radio 2 on Sunday afternoon with Nile Rodgers on the Johnnie Walker show. Am sure I heard mention of both Nile and Bernard Edwards playing on the song 'I'm doing fine now' by the band New York City. I never knew they had both been involved with the record. Great tune and bassline - produced by Thom Bell in 1973, and later covered here by The Pasadenas I think.

I have 2 tickets for the 'An Evening Brian Wilson' gig at the Royal Concert hall in Glasgow on Tuesday 1st September. For anyone who does n't know, Brian was the founder member of The Beach Boys. He has the most amazing band I've ever seen ('best touring band in the world' according to Paul McCartney)- think it's an eleven piece outfit. Seen them a few times before, but due to personal circumstances am unable now to make this gig, so is anybody interested in buying these tickets ? Tickets are in hand, and will post 1st class in the UK. They are two good seats in the stalls, Row M. Face value is £40 per ticket + booking fees etc made it £90 for the pair. (Am not looking to profit from selling, just want to recoup as much of my outlay as possible!) SOLD! Will be a great opportunity to see one of the legends of contemporary popular music! Cheers.
