And Spectre basses?
-
Beat me to it! Great pedal, especially for the bargain price - absolute no brainier to try out first.

Whilst all the other amps you've mentioned are highly regarded, the Ampeg is no slouch either. There's not a lot of risk buying one for £299 IMO, as if you don't get on with it then you won't lose much when you want to move it on. Which I doubt you'll want to do....😉

Suggest a practice amp for my 11yo beginner son?
casapete replied to timmyo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Another +1 for the Rumble. The 15 or 25 ones are both ideal for your son. If you get a decent s/h one it will also hold its value when he wants something bigger too. 🙂 -
I believe that reliability issues with the PF500 were only a problem with early models, and it was sorted by Ampeg fairly quickly. You should be fine with anything made recently.

It's so lacking clarity, no wonder some establishments are thinking it's okay to proceed.

Did music lessons at school help with your musical life?
casapete replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
Me too! Singing treble in the church choir until my voice broke did no help in this matter either.... -
Some pubs around here are starting to put small socially distanced indoor gigs on - are they in breach of the rules?
-
Yeh I enjoyed it too. Obviously too much material to cover in more detail though which was a bit frustrating at times, but nevertheless very watchable.

Did music lessons at school help with your musical life?
casapete replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
I started playing guitar at primary school, as well as having piano lessons from the age of about 7 when my folks realised I had ‘a good ear’ ( just the one ....) Secondary school didn’t help much really, with music lessons mainly to do with singing and also listening to classical stuff. We had a student teacher for a year who started a guitar class which was significant for me, and I still remember his Gibson J40 which he let me play! The only school bands were an orchestra ( which held no interest to me, especially as I’d been bollocked for playing a double bass with my fingers!) and a small brass band. Contrast that now with what goes on - a guy who was in my last band was head of music at a local secondary school, where they have a soul band, rock bands and a jazz ensemble, and also a recording studio set up! -
All the P-Lytes I’ve had have been very slim in the neck department. The funny thing is, prior to using this model I’d been playing my 60’s Precision and then a succession of Musicman Stingrays, all of which had much chunkier necks. I made the transition to the P-Lyte really easily, which given the radical playing difference was really surprising.

Wow, what a belter! Love it, good work.

The ‘Pro’ model seemed to appear in two versions. I believe both had the improved metal bridge and tuners but one had the dual concentric pots unlike mine which has a master vol, master tone and a 3 position pickup selector switch. As with most Longhorns, it sounds best with both pickups on, full vol and tone! Mine is a late 90’s model, made in Korea.

This looks like it could be excellent. 3 part series starts tonight (4/9/20) at 9.30pm on BBC4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000m7h1

Great bass line and sound, not sure if it was JJ or not?
-
My 90's blueburst is actually a 'Pro' model ( upgraded metal bridge / tuners etc) but like yours has truss adjustment at the body end of the neck. Again, historically inaccurate but makes it more user friendly IMO. Had a few Longhorns and they've all been great, just some more great than others. 😀

Absolutely - this is one of my faves.

Am sure someone will dive in soon. Covid has meant it won’t be me though ☹️ -
There are plenty of specialist Dano modders in the US, where they seem more receptive to the designs! Try www.danguitars.com for starters.

Wanting a change for no readily apparent reason?
casapete replied to MacDaddy's topic in Amps and Cabs
I’m worried that it’s been so long since I’ve seen / used my GK rig that when /if I do it will disappoint me! GAS for me has taken a definite back seat since the start of the Covid period, and I’m tempted to use that as an excuse to sell what I have and ‘downsize’ / ‘thin the herd’ to release some dosh. Probably regret it though. 🤔 -
Wow, must be a great friend Blue, and with such good taste in amplification too! An old friend of mine ( our friendship only goes back nearly 50 years!) called round a few years ago while I was out on the road and left me his lovely Fernandes 1950's style Strat0caster. It's in burgundy mist with a flamed maple neck, and when we played in bands together he'd remembered how I used to comment on it. A lovely gesture.

Honestly? We finished the second set with it!! 🤣 (To be fair though this was a very pis*ed up audience, consisting mainly of office and works Xmas parties. We used to do up to 20 consecutive nights of these every December in a local hotel - those were the days.)
