Another BF Compact fan here. Had my Gen 1 for maybe 10 years now, and still my fave cab for gigging. Use it with a GK MB800. Honourable mentions must also go to my SVT 8x10 and SWR Henry the Eighth 8x8 which I would buy back in an instant ( if I had any gigs of course).

I was looking for one of these a while back, and think I happened across a matt black one too. Think the early Specials were only available as a passive, and the most common colour was sunburst, along with CA red, white and black. Gold anodised plates were fitted on all I believe. Also most had rosewood fingerboards but some did have maple IIRC.

I'm a bit confused now as to which one you've tried? The Eurosys stuff was pretty naff IIRC, whereas the Hisys range was a big improvement - as you say BW speakers etc. I've used the Hisys 2 as a bass cab a few times when I had to and found it okay, especially with the horn in it's 'flat' setting.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the GHS set. I’m a long time user of bronzewounds, and always been fairly happy with what I’ve had. Started out using Elites, then went onto D’Addarios and now Fender 8060’s ( which I have a feeling may be made by D’Addario?). The Fenders are well priced and last a reasonably long time, although don’t seem to give much warning of when they need changing! I’ve been meaning to try some other types of strings for a while now, so keep us posted. Cheers.
