1. Thanks for the advice Wally, I will check out whether I can use the Genz as a power amp only, as it would make sense to use my existing rig if I can, and achieve the tone I want with the VT Deluxe, that way I will be able to hear myself on stage, and I could still go through the PA if I needed more volume.
2. Due to back problems, I have gone down the lightweight route in purchasing a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-12T plus a Genz Benz 2x10 cab. It's a lovely set up, but it does lack the punch and warmth that you get with bigger and heavier rigs, so I am considering getting a Tech 21 VT Bass deluxe to beef up the sound. We play mainly classic rock and blues, so I am seeking that "old school" tone. My questions are: 1. Will it work ok with my rig, and if so, what settings should I use on the amp, should I set it to as clean/neutral as possible? 2. Would I be better off running it through a power amp into my 2x10 cab, and if so, what power amp would you recommend? 3. Should I consider a 1x15 or 2x12" cab to go with it? 3. Would it sound ok through the PA? I've only been playing a few years, so not really up on the tech side of things, so any help would be appreciated.
3. Why so much hatred of tabs, for all those people who can read music, there are far more who can't! Fair play to those who can, but not all people can learn to read music for various reasons, and I wouldn't mind betting that almost everyone has been thankful for tabbed music at some stage in their learning curve. It just seems a bit snobbish to rubbish tabs, just because you can now read music. A bit like a "reformed smoker" comes to mind, and yes I used to smoke, but I don't condemn those who still do.
4. I posted a similar request a couple of weeks ago, but got no response, so I thought that I would try again. What I'm after is the bass tab/music to Bad Company's 'Honey Child', I have searched everywhere without success. I have played it a couple of times with my band, but although it is ok, I know it's not right and doesn't sound as good as it should. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
5. I need tabs or video tutorials of 'Honey Child', as well as 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad' by Bad Company. I need to learn these songs by the weekend but am tied up at the moment, so I can't get to my bass until Saturday morning. I've searched everywhere but can't come up with anything at all, I don't read music, but could probably work something out from the sheet music if I had to. I normally just listen to the songs and work out the bass line for myself, but unfortunately, I just don't have time. Any help would be very much appreciated.
6. I've listened to it, and it's nothing like Good Lovin' Gone Bad
7. Thanks, but it's not the right song I'm afraid.
8. Has anyone got an accurate tab, or know of a video tutorial for 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad'? (I don't read music). I normally work out most bass lines just by listening to the song, but I need to crack this song by Saturday and I will only be able to spare a couple of hours on it, so anything that might help, will be very much appreciated. Cheers in anticipation.
9. We were supposed to be playing at a council-run Jubilee/beacon-lighting event today, on an exposed piece of common land, but we pulled out of it a couple of weeks ago, because they would not give us an adequate platform to stand on, or any form of cover whatsoever. Who said that councils are 'health & safety' mad? Anyway, we are now spending today in a recording studio, to knock out a 'demo' CD instead.
10.
What's USACA?
United States Of America Cricket Association? It's looking good Twigman, and you've now got me wanting to try another build! I've been looking at Warmoth for some time now, but I have heard that their necks are a bit chunky, is that the case?
11. It's up to £16.01 now, don't worry, I'm sure the bids will start coming in the final hour or so.
12.
Yes but they are special ones that let you stick it to a wall A
Oh, that would be handy when the floor space is a bit tight!
13. Maybe the fact that it's got castors on the side of the amp, instead of on the bottom, is putting the punters off a bit!
14.
So did you have a nice evening or not? A
NO! Grrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhh! I've got a 'grand' waiting to be spent, and I was so disappointed that they didn't have any in stock!
15. KingBollock, looks like you are spot on! I sent them a message asking, "are you sure?" Reply: "Hi there, thanks for the msg and really sorry about the confusion. We've had some stock problem and will adjust the price back to normal as soon as it's resolved. Many thanks and have a nice evening!"
16. You could well be right, but the ad does say: More than 10 available/40 sold
17. 18. Just not the same without Terry Wogan's brilliant sarcasm!
19. Y
I think you're missing a link...
Yes, let us see the bass in question!
20. Great responses so far, which help me understand why people want such instruments. I am old enough to remember having the the 'Bells of Surbiton' catalogues in my teens, that listed all these old classics, which included 'Fenders' for around 60/70 guineas, 'Gibson Les Pauls' for about 60 guineas, and I think it must be a Beatles thing, but I can definitely remember the Hofner Violin bass was 55 guineas. Then there were the cheaper 'Watkins' range of 'Rapier' guitars which sold for about 15/20 guineas (I think), along with the 'Copycat' echo. If only I knew then, what I know now!
21. Whilst I appreciate the 'nostalgia' thing, surely a guitar/bass made 50+ years ago, can't be better than modern guitars/basses that are hand-crafted by the top luthiers of today for a fraction of the price. So why do people want to spend so much money on a bass that will probably have dodgy electrics, worn frets, cracked/chipped and 'dodgy' paintwork, neck/truss rod problems, corroded hardware...etc...etc...? Of course, I am only winding you up, but surely if a these old classics are that great, why can they not be reproduced to the exact specs, and therefore sound and play just as good? I know Fender produce models based on so-called 62's, 63's and so on, but are they as good, and if so, do they not satisfy the craving for that classic sound and vibe, or is it just the 'original' thing that is all important? I really am intrigued (but don't understand) by this obsession with vintage instruments. I am ready to be slaughtered on this!
22.
That'll be fine for me then
I might just stand it in the corner at 'The Dog & Duck' as a back-up to my Sue Ryder!
23.
That is seriously the best looking bass I have ever seen underpriced? Where are you ever EVER going to find another like that? If I won a million or so on the Lotto I'd buy that in a flash & play it
It might play and sound rubbish!
24.
like this ? If you look for it, theres some good Japanese Feelgood tributes on ebay - and some awful ones.
Cheers, I've just sent it to my guitarist!
25.
What a bugger you're a bass player too, as I've been saying the same thing to our guitarist/harp player. AND I'm in Herts. Mind you. sounds like you're getting there by slipping some in to your sets.
I advertised for a Dr Feelgood 'type' band on 'Joinmyband', in the Herts/Beds/BucksEssex areas, and managed to get together with quite a few musicians who all said they like Feelgood, but after a while they started suggesting totally different material to what I set out to do. We do three or four with the guys I'm with now, and I have a great ally in our lead guitarist as he is a huge fan of Dr Feelgood, and he's been dropping more hints by belting out the 'All throught The City' riff at rehearsals, so maybe we will be doing that as well soon. He's also into the 'Count Bishops' who were quite well known around the London area at the same time as Feelgood, there material falls into a similar catagory, so we have a few of their songs included in our set too, so we are starting to build up a set that is a bit different to what a lot of 'covers' bands do. The drummer is the main stumbling block (lovely bloke mind), who really likes all the old classics, but he is slightly outnumbered, so maybe he will come round to our way of thinking one day.
