on the way...

i'm a sucker for mains valve pedals...going to bung a low gain eh valve in it...see how it goes.
2. unless the bass is going into van or the boot of a car i use a ritter gigbag...

behringer bdi 21

i picked one up yesterday...and i'm very impressed. shame the distortion kicks in at such a low level, and the di is quiet, but for the price, it's a killer unit.
4. i've got a vi... but i'm still tempted by one of those...

thanks for the tips guys. i reckon i'll be picking one up over the weekend. i'm sure it won't be a patch on my ampeg pre, but it's sure going to sound better than a straight line to the desk.
6. i know that paul, the has one of these and is happy with it...anyone else tried one ? i'm going to be playing a radio session soon for a community radio station and will miss the sound of my ampeg pre-amp. i know the di level isn't up to much, i'm curious how noisy it'll be. my sansamp was taken out by an exploding electric mistress a while back and i've not got the funds to replace it.

how did you get on ?
8. that kind of attitude says a lot more about the people expressing it than the actual role of a bass player in a band. if someone's coming out with stuff like that i think you can pretty well ignore their opinion.
9. it's a guilty secret isn't it ? ok...deep breath...i promise to tell the whole truth, etc. fender jazz fender p-j musicman sabre de armond starfire westone fretless 'no name' acoustic two half-built ebay jobs fender vi erm... /looks around room/ yep...i guess that's it.
10. i mean...what's the point ? how about a 200 string violin...
11.
I haven't seen one of those buggers for ages. Nor the flanger. Some of the best regarded Boss bass pedals I believe.
want to join in kicking me for selling it ?

hmm...i reckon you should exchange it if you can... i got a small clone recently and i love it...no hiss. edit: although - about the pop...i do get a click the first time i turn it on, but not after that...if it starts to annoy me i'm opening it up and seeing if a pull-down resistor helps.
13. i've seen a few of them on ebay, and have kept my eye on them price wise... not been able to find that much out about them.

Which do you use?

a few pedals in an old pedlabox on the floor do me...but the pedals aren't essential. i do without them if needs be... ...although maybe one overdrive
15.
Personally I don't think any of the 'scarring' looks natural, but then again unless you know where every scrape and ding on your bass has come from then it very rarely can.
hmmm - they don't...
16.
I always fancied one of those "baritone" VI's. Pity the reissue is so bloody expensive! It's recently been quietly dropped from the Fender website as well. Is it nice to play? I'd imagine that it's pick playing only with the strings so close together!
once you get used to them you can play them with fingers or a pick, although part of the joy is to be able to play full guitar chord on a bass.
17. i'll certainly look at those....thanks.
18. i jam with some friends who play techno and breakbeat stuff and some of the tunes are based around flattened fifths (??)...(AD#...DG#...etc) and it always confuses me as to what scales to mooch around in. i'm no theory expert, so what kind of scales would you use to include those notes ? any advice would be appreciated.
19.
Kev, that's because both the Q-Tron and Big Muff are sh*te. I'm not a big fan of either of them.
no, no...tell us what you really mean
It seems weird that you have the q-tron after distortion, as it wont have as much dynamics to react with.
well i'm still tweaking....i don't usually run the q-tron and the muff at the same time...i use the (modded) rat and the q-tron together, and the rat and the muff...so it kindof works for me. specially as i've just got a ehx small stone
20. best bass eq i ever tried was the boss pq3b hard to find, and takes some tweaking, but a great unit...
21. i'd say there's not much point replacing the drivers until you know why they went...
