  1. Real fast and loose with that phrase "forever and ever".
  2. 24 hrs? think Spencers moment has ended ๐Ÿคช
  3. I has fully checked out of 3 Leaf as the scalping and futile attempts at buying anything had really put me off (I have 4/5 of his pedals from the last 10 years anyway). I only remembered about it at about 6pm but thought I'd check it out anyway. I just kept clicking on buttons and suddenly I had one in my basket and was filling out my address. Fully expected to get an "Out of Stock" notification, but it all went through. Maybe he's finally cracked it.
  4. If your question is, why do I use a 50W amp when the cab can handle 750W dirty and around 1000W clean, the answer is I use the Ampeg at home because it sounds nice and I wouldn't get to use it otherwise. I used it live with my previous Super Compact a couple of times and it had to be driven pretty hard just to be audible. For the last 6/7 years I've used a Mesa D800 live, which puts out 800W. However, as discussed above, I may try the Ampeg live with the Three10 at some point, but I'm not expecting much. As you say, it is only 50W, and even 50 TUBE watts don't go that far. The question niggling at me now is, why use such a small amp with such a big cab... I need a bigger 800W amp!
  5. My jazz Trio, Flam, are playing the Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh launching our album next week (24th of May). Get tickets here: Flam album launch is live! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/875356092637?aff=oddtdtcreator Discount for Basschatters: code FlamNoise for ยฃ5 tickets
  6. I might try it out on my wedding gig next week, though its a 6/7 piece soul band so it may still not be loud enough!
  7. I've gigged the PF-50T a couple of times but it's only 50 watts and it just can't keep up with a band and stay clean. Live I use a Mesa D800. It's either more bass or less upper mids. Alex has said that their cones take a while to break in so we'll see how it sounds in a few weeks.
  8. So after some hassle with the courier delivering to the address down the road that is one word different to mine (not the first time; I have complained) I have the Three10. The true test will be on a gig (I have two in a couple of weeks), but my initial impressions are good. The tone is what I expected: overall very warm, a little less upper mids than my Compact, a touch more bass, but just the right amount of the right kind of highs (IMHO). I've played around with the tweeter and not heard a massive difference with it on or off, but I play with flats and no wild effects, so frankly I'd rather have a mellow tweeter. The wheels and handles mean its not much more awkward to move than the Compact, though I did not enjoy carrying it the hundred or so metres back to my flat! Plus it matches my office.
  9. I've had this cab about 10 years and it's been gigged pretty heavily, but it's in good condition aside from one small repair on the front, and works perfectly. Comes with a Hot Covers cover. As to be expected the cab has some dents (pictured) but nothing to affect the functioning of the cab. One of the covers for the handle attachment has come off but the handle has never felt loose. Collection would be easiest, or meet up within an hour of Edinburgh. Courier might be possible (at buyer's expense) but I'd have to figure out a box of some kind.

  10. I got the email from DPD today that it is on its way, so should arrive next week.
  11. How do you find the DCX bass? I find it a bit weird. not quite a distortion, not quite a fuzz
  12. There are absolutely lots of great examples of them being used well, Mr Chancellor being one of them. My post makes me sound like a d**k (sometimes this is true), but I actually do appreciate a well placed filter. They just tend to be a bit over used IMHO, and used as a substitute for good playing.
  13. I kind of agree that envelope filters are very niche. I personally find very little use for them and I rarely hear many bass players use one tastefully, if at all. To me they are definitely associated with 19yo in college getting their first pedal. Personally I think its drive, octave and compressors that are the most prevalent on bass players' boards.
  14. I have a Three10 on order and it *should* be due this week. I will update when it arrives.
  15. These basses are fantastic! I feel bad for you having to sell it!
  16. What's the collective noun for JMJ Mustangs?
  17. I had back issues last year and played sitting down for around 6 months, I just used an Ikea folding chair. No one seemed to mind, and I was playing soul/pop covers and my own jazz trio. I kind of preferred it coz it meant my ears where right next to my amp! FWIW I went to a physio who gave me some exercises and started doing weights at the gym. Fixed my back issues.
  18. Has anyone been able to fit their Mullarkey with an Xtender of any sort? The hole is 16mm and from what I can tell the Hipshot ones (I'm looking at the ultralite ones) are either 15 or 17mm. cheers
  19. You'd think they'd have a forum where they share and compare scams ๐Ÿ˜‚

  21. These are pretty rare, they were only available around 2005/6, and this one is in very good condition (I've only used it couple of times at home). I have the original box and instruction manual, see pics for condition. Will consider trades for other octavers (especially 3Leaf Audio, if you're willing to part with it!) or drives/fuzzes. ยฃ5 postage.

  22. Of the five basses I own there are two that haven't gotten much attention for the couple of years, the Callowhill MPB and the Acinonyx, but I have no intention of moving them on. The Callowhill was my main bass when I was playing full time, and the builder (Tim Cloonan) died about a year after I got it. Despite the fact I have been asked to name my price on a couple of occasions there are too many memories tied up in it to sell. And I just like the Acinonyx. I got it for about half what they go for now and I like the very particular thing it does (which is exactly why it doesn't get played much!) I keep the basses I like and sell the ones I don't.
  23. I've used 100 and 105s on most if not all of my basses (all short scales) and not felt either was better or worse. I did feel that stainless steels had odd overtones above the 7th fret, but that could be a twisted string or that particular bass (Callowhill). I'd try stuff and see what gets closest to the sound in your head.
  24. LaBella do a set of flats specifically for the through-stringing the Mustang. think they're called FL-MUS or MUS-FL. I've got some on my JMJ, great strings.
  25. Not sure where you're based but you can get short scale D'Addario Nickels here: https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/collections/bass-guitar-string-sets/products/daddario-exl170s-nickel-wound-45-100-bass-guitar-strings-short-scale?_pos=4&_fid=8a1319f85&_ss=c Finding the right strings can take a lot of time, experimentation and money, but it is worth figuring out what gauge, construction and material you like. Strings Direct is probably has the most options, though bass Direct has a decent selection. Personally, my favourite strings are (currently) Dunlop steel flats (haven't tried their rounds yet).
