1. It is the above bass and I've decided to keep it for now. I played this at a gig recently and really enjoyed how it played and got great comments on its sound. I got a bit negative about the bass because when it arrived it needed some repairs doing and the attitude of the seller was unsupportive and upsetting. Having spent some time and money on it I've bonded with it again for the time being. I'm always open to the temptation of a nice Telecaster though!
 2.
Got some interest in my Les Paul so it's a race to see if I can get the cash to be able to try it out before it goes...
Good luck with the sale then, plenty of interest so far but nothing on the table so to speak!
 3. I had a 5 string version, they play well but don't have the classic Jazz sound to my ears.

 7.
That looks fantastic!
And it's fantastic to hear and play too!
 8.
Now I understand, thanks for that, does look good, colour me tempted
Quite a few are tempted it appears! I must say the ebony board is superb to play and the bass has a very 'natural' sound for an active.
 9. Well Geoff I turned the bridge round as suggested and it's a much better angle. The feet aren't too flush to the top however it certainly feels firmer and much 'safer' to play. Thanks for your advice and sorry noojb if I hijacked your thread somewhat!
 10.
I like this a lot! Can you tell me what the first mod is? What am I missing? If the second mod is the pick ups? Sorry if I'm being thick but I keep reading it & don't get it Oh yeah - where's the battery fitted? Cheerz, John
Hiya John, The first mod is the fretboard, as to my knowledge there weren't any factory fretless JVs. I bought it like this and it had been professionally fitted years back. The battery is under the scratch plate in the control cavity and is held in place with foam. The EMGS pots are slightly smaller so it fits quite snugly. Cheers
 11.
I think you should give this to me for free as a birthday present... Just throwing that out there.
You'd be very lucky mate..... I'd do you a swap for your JV though
 12.
The writing is on the bridge. It faces towards the fingerboard/neck. Not the spike/tailpiece. It may not actually have any writing on but normally it's the name of the person who fitted the bridge or the maker of the bridge.
I actually meant 'the writing facing the tailpiece' not facing the bridge sorry typo!
 13.
The writing is on the bridge. It faces towards the fingerboard/neck. Not the spike/tailpiece. It may not actually have any writing on but normally it's the name of the person who fitted the bridge or the maker of the bridge.
When I got my bass the writing was facing down towards the tailpiece and the angle of the bridge is slightly forward towards the fingerboard end, the pickup is fitted to enable this too. So that is incorrect then? Cheers
 14. I thought that the writing had to be facing toward the bridge? It happened to me recently and frightened me and the cat out of our wits! Perhaps that's where I'm going wrong however - http://www.musictrader.com/fittingabridge.pdf I read that in the above article which is quite useful.
 15. I sold mine on here recently for half of that and mine - although modded - had a famous former owner and was in a very rare finish, so yes I think this is optimistic for a niche albeit lovely looking bass.

 17. In the words of the great Mrs Doyle 'go on go on go on'.......
 18. I'm in Lancaster so pretty accessible for those up north
 19.
my goodness i want this !!!!
well its available for sale and I'm not too far from you!
 20.
I have a copy of 'music for the jilted generation' somewhere, any interest?
No thanks was always a bit wary of Keith
 21.
Very nice!
Thanks it's a class bass but not getting the attention it deserves, I'm open to sensible offers but sorry no trades unless someone has a nice Moog Minitaur or Prodigy.....
 22. Definitely up for sale now.
 23.
That's rather lovely! What are the neck dimensions (width and depth)?
It measures 42mm width at the nut and 18mm deep, cheers it is a nice instrument.
 24. This is my modded JV Precision, it's an '83 model made in Japan ofcourse and has all the ID stamps on the body, neck butt, etc, plus the usual Fender stamped shim in the neck pocket. I bought this because it has such a lovely neck and at the time I hadn't played a decent fretless before. The board is unlined ebony and has dots on the side to indicate the marker positions - not each fret, I have found it an easy bass to play and very intuitive. The second mod is that the original pickups have been replaced with EMGs with a matching Jazz pickup at the bridge. The electrics are a simple volume, volume, tone - the active pickups really bring out the fretless 'mwar' sound beloved of Jaco, Pino, et al. Like all the JV series construction is second to none with excellent balance and a light weight. The bass has the usual JV hardware - reverse tuners, threaded bridge, extra strap button behind the headstock. The scratch plate is a replacement as when I bought it it had a horrible home made one on it and non matching controls. The neck plate has the JV serial stamped on it. Condition wise it has quite a few dings and scrapes and where the Jazz pickup was routed there was a chunk out of the wood subsequently filled and varnished in an attempt to disguise it. It doesn't detract from the overall 'vibe' of the instrument and it could be quite honestly called 'road worn' without being near an over zealous belt sander! The back of the neck is beautifully figured and has barely a mark on it. This is a great sounding instrument and very easy to play but presently neglected so I'd like to gauge interest in a potential sale to perhaps free up some cash. I'm looking at £395 and am not interested in trades as I really need to trim down my collection of gear!
