  3. [b]£950 [/b]+ delivery (or meet close to South Lincolnshire) [s]£1050[/s] [s]£1250[/s] Evening All, It is with regret that I am selling my Warwick Streamer LX 6 string Fretless Broadneck bass. I was made in Germany in the mid 90's (1996 I believe), during what many consider the "Golden Years" for Warwick. This is a remarkable example of a potentially unique bass (I've never seen another one like it, although there must be the odd one out their somewhere) I have owned it since the Summer of 2004 and it has served me well in many settings from Rock bands to Newcastle University Jazz Orchestra (pictured: that's me as Postman Pat!), Jazz quartets and I've even played it Live on BBC 1 as part of a special 'Pentecost' Service. It has the Growl of these early Warwicks but the switch-able active/passive electrics allow you to beautifully emulate a smooth Jazz Double Bass on this gorgeous ebony finger board. Unfortunately I just don't play as much as I used to so finances are forcing me to sell. £1050 + delivery (or meet close to South Lincolnshire) - (Warwick advised me to insure it for £2,500-£3000) All parts (hardware/pickups/electronics/fingerboard) are absolute originals. There is no buckle rash, or damage. This bass is over 15 years old but I can only find 1 mark to show for it (pictured: on the lower horn) It comes with a premium 3" wide padded leather strap (these are not light basses), official Warwick wax (I have cared for the wood well!), a hard case and is fitted with Warwick Black label strings. Started on 4 string, then did a straight swap from 4 to 5 a decade ago (never owned a 4 string since), then added a 6 string fret-less. with a brief spell of only owning 6 strings (one fretted/one fret-less). I'm now firmly settled on a 5 string fretted for 90% of the time and then the 6 string fret-less for all Jazz gigs, for a lush woody fretless sound on the warwick ebony finger board. I feel a 6 string fret-less is just too out of place in all over situations, but 5 strings fit in comfortable everywhere these days, can't afford a decent 4 string as well so I don't even bother thinking about it. (certainly wouldn't have a problem dropping my 6 string if I found a nice 5 string fret-less equivalent but I love my Warwick too much...because of the bass not because of the 6th string)

  8. DOD FX25B Envelope Filter In "As New" Condition, I think I've only ever actually had it out of the box once in my life and that was for 30 mins to play with it when I first got it. Never used it since. I guess I'm just not an effects person. In "like" brand new condition in box with manual and no marks at all.   9. Is the Bass a Guitar? Definition of Guitar: A musical instrument having a flat-backed rounded body that narrows in the middle, a long fretted neck, and usually six strings, played by strumming or plucking. That describes my bass therefore yes it is a guitar.

  11. I did exactly the same about 3 years ago...always used to play my Warwick fretless in passive and edging towards the neck with flatwounds for (what I thought was) a more Double sound. My then bass teacher showed me his fretless which was set up the opposite...round wounds - 80% bridge pickup and all active turned on and playing near the bridge...I quickly changed my entire tone over night and learnt to change my finger style (and placement on the strings) to get a mellow sound when needed.   14. Thanks so much for all the advice..Really appreciate it. Well here goes...I'm doing the first lesson on Wednesday. I've managed to get a list of some favourite songs including: Shine - Take That Viva La Gloria - Greenday Viva La Vida - Coldplay So a good repetitive "Viva La Vida" 4 chord master class is in order.   15. I went through a lot of strings trying different flat/half wounds...I just never got the tone I was after...Thomastik Infeld were the closest but cost twice my preferred round-wounds. I don't get a bass to look at it, I get it for a great sound and I'm happy to spend the extra on refinish/repair than have a sound I'm not happy with. So been there and all been decided that I'm happy to keep my round-wounds. Also I don't want a coat, I really like the natural ebony wood so I'll stick with that. As for skimming...I'll be honest I didn't know that was an option...but I think that should definitely be what I need. Its not actually a damaged finger board in any other way, it's just got a lot of string wear. So that must the best option. How much for a skim Doc?   16. Last night I changed the strings on my Warwick Streamer LX 6 String Broad Neck Fretless. And I noticed that the string wear on the fingerboard is getting a little more noticeable than I would like. Anybody know how much it would be to replace the (unlined) ebony finger board? And any recommendations on where to get it done (around Lincolnshire and S. Yorkshire)...or further afield. It's got some life left in it yet but many years ago I made the decision that the tone from roundwound strings was worth damaging the finger board compared to the flat wound tone and I think that 2010 may be the year for this job? (its a 15 year old bass so its done well as my main bass for many a year). Out of curiosity...at what point did you start transcribing the songs he was learning...did you do that from the start? or did he just learn a pattern at a time (and did you use tab/staff music notation or both) My instinct is that introducing conventional music notation as early as possible is good but this may be my classical background creeping up on me?

If you ignore chords/scales then surely you are only teaching technique. It's surely impossible to play from a chord sheet without chord knowlegde. On the other hand I guess at that age it may be more important just to encourage a love of the instrument and to teach riff's/specific songs. Maybe a middle ground would be to teach the Major and Minor chord shape and a fret board and leave it at that. It would give a good foundation without any REAL theory? Thoughts?
  20. I think this is the best place for this... Basically a friend of mine has asked if I will give his son (aged about 8 or 9?) some bass lessons. The kids dad is an accomplished guitarist and has been showing him the basics for the last couple of months but would like someone with more knowledge to help out. The kid has basic music knowledge from doing piano lessons (but I gather not for long) and I've seen him play (He played a song with our church Sunday school on Sunday for Christmas so he is at least somewhere!) I've taught a few people to play bass but never someone less than about 16 so I'm guessing I should probably have a whole different approach...( I vaguely remember my Cello lessons aged about 9) ...any advice appreciated!
