  1. I know of Nick but I don't know him to ask for a bass. As is common, bassists don't know bassisits, since there's only ever one per band so we just don't meet, so I might see if any of my mutual musical acquaintances know him or other bassists in the area well enough for that sort of request. If I fly to Japan via London I could have the pick of them! It'll only cost me a few airline tickets and some hobnobs!! Sounds sensible to me 🤣
  2. Rehearsals and shows are the 21st to the 28th of Jan. Won't need it any longer than that, give or take the 'practicalities' of arranging pickup/drop off.
  3. Interesting offer, I'll see if anything more local turns up. (Pm'd)
  4. Unfortunately not, thanks for the kind offer though. Although it's probably worth me saying I am used to playing 4, 5 and 6 string basses so they are all an option
  5. I'm playing bass in a local Amdram production at the end of January and a handful of the peices 'require' a fretless (I've played fretless plenty in the past and also play cello & double bass so no learning curve) however I don't actually own a fretless bass at the moment. So wondering if anyone (preferebly local to South Lincolnshire/Peterborough) would be willing to lend me their fretless bass that's been sat in the corner of their room for the last few years. It's amdram, so not much money involved but would be happy to throw a bit of cash in as a gesture of good will. Could also potentially leave my spare bass with you as 'deposit' to guarntee the return of the fretless. Crazy idea, but you don't get if you don't ask. (alternatively I could buy a bass on marketplace and then put it straight up for sale - but who has the cash to do that?)
  6. Hi, I would like this if it's still available please. PM'd
  7. When my Shure 425s broke about 6 months ago I went on my own 'exploration' of cheap IEM. Here are my 'reviews' from using as IEM (not recreational music listening). KZ ZS10 Pro X: (4BA+1DD) (£30 Aliexpress) A big improvement over my 425s but an 'intolerable to my ears' harshness at 8kHz. My wife loves them for vocals but I can't use them for long periods TINHIFI T3 Pro: (1DD) (£52 Aliexpress) Better and flatter than the ZS10 and the Shures but not quite the clarity of sound stage from the multi driver units. KZ AS16 Pro: (8BA) (£40 Aliexpress) These are my go to, all the clarity of the ZS10 but without the 'V shape' or '8kHz harsh' (only down side is they are big) - the fact that 'https://crinacle.com/rankings/iems/' gives these the same 'V-shape harshness' description as ZS10, is frankly bonkers (unless the 'Pro' really makes that much difference?) They are drastically different and are way flatter My conclusion KZ AS16 Pro are my go to and my recommendation, the only down side is thate are big and bulky and less comfy than Shures or T3 Pro. I love these and they have changed the way I do on stage monitoring TINHIFI T3 Pro are my permanant backup in my gig bag and I occasionally put them in if I know have a long day of IEM since they are just so comfy KZ ZS10 Pro: Personally I would pay the extra for something with less harshness (although I'm more sensitive to that than some since my wife loves these for singing) I'm really happy with the AS16 and now have no 'itch' for custom moulds, even though I know they may well be better I can't justify the enormous increase in cost over the £40 ones that I now love
  8. Which ever way round makes a 'pan test' work. (and has the cable going up over your ear) YouTube pan test
  9. Forgot mentioned, the Tascam X8 (same functionality as Zoom X6 but big touch screen interface). Has an optional Bluetooth adapter meaning you could set it up above a drum kit (or even opposite side of the stage) and it's fully controllable from your phone. Everything from gain levels to mix levels and beyond. It's about £100 more than the zoom H6 but if you really want that functionality?
  10. I use a tascam x8 (Same as Zoom H6), and have never had a need to mount it up above the drums. I have it mounted on a mic stand next to may cab so I can easily control levels without it being in the way. I purposely have it above the cab to get as litte bass cab as possible and send a DI bass signal to it for more control. If I need more drums than guitar, I point it more towards the drums, if I want less drums, I rotate it away from the drums. Simple and accessible, doesn't get in the way of the stage and if there is a nice aux signal then I plug that in too and reduce the ambient mic. (I'm often playing with un-mic'ed horn section so that's pretty rare)
  11. Thanks for a great day all, my first Bass Bash and thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and the playing on so many wonderful instruments.
  12. 15. Is me SimBass (Simeon) Rather than Simian which means "of, relating to, or resembling monkeys or apes." 😁
  13. So last week one of my Shure SE425 ears stopped working mid practice (replacement cable didn’t fix – actual driver/ear is broken). I ordered and received a pair of ‘KZ ZS10 Pro X’ from amazon and was extremely impressed. Considering they are less than a 5th of the cost of the SE425s I’ve been using for years. The clarity is amazing, I’ll try them at rehearsal on Thursday but I was very impressed. My one issue is that there is some real harshness in the mid-highs and highs? Shakers, cymbals (especially crash) are really prominent and I’m concerned they will be fatiguing? I had a play with EQ on my computer and found a dip at around 7.9kHz took the harshness away. (see pic) So…is this something you guys have experienced? Will I get used to it (Obviously I need to use them in rehearsal before making any rash decisions)? Are any of the other ‘cheap’ alternatives better/flatter at the top end? (KZ AS16 ??), or do I need to go back to the expensive ‘brands’ and leave my ZS10s as my ‘back ups’? My current iem setup up (Zoom H6) does not allow me to add any EQ and I’m not going to be adding a Stereo EQ pedal into my setup (e.g SOURCE AUDIO EQ2) since that would be overkill, more gear and expensive. Any thoughts appreciated
  14. I'm driving from Bourne, so will be driving through Grantham on my way up to the A52. Genuinely more than happy to give you a lift.

Might bring the double bass .. how big is the room? @PTB: MTD 535, Limelight Pino replica, possibly a MusicMan, MarkBass combo, HX XL & extension leads 😎 Darran: Nice Ibanez and the Aria Sinsonido silent bass. Ashdown amp if there's space in the car. @floFC: curiosity @Oldman: contemplating bringing my custom Fretless 5! Is there a start/end time, what's the deal with cakes (I like cakes), how does the raffle work, I think someone mentioned £10 (is the confirmed or dependant on numbers?) Cheers
  16. On a similar note (of 'other gear'). @NickA I would be very curious to hear a 'real' double bass side by side with my Eminence, I've never done a real comparison Gear I'm not planning to bring but could throw in if anyone was particularly interested: Barefaced One10 Sire P7 v2 (5 String) Custom 2x10 cab (currently for sale in the market place)
  17. EDIT: 25th April - Priced dropped to £75. This is a great sounding cab which is sat here taking up space. I understand it won't get 'a lot of money' since it's DIY but I got loads of great feedback from the Midlands Bass Bash I took it to last week and so would love for this to actually be of use to someone. If you want to make me an offer and can pick it up (or let me know where you are for a meeting up) then let me know. Original Ad: 600w 8ohm, 2x10" cab loaded with Eminence Drivers (can bring to the Midlands Bass bash on 22nd of April in Nottingham if anyone wants to try it out) I built this cab whilst at university when I wanted a high powered, high performance cab but didn't have the money to spend on a branded one, I spent around £350 on materials and ended up with a cab worth double that if I'd bought an equivelent new. It's a fully sealed high quality ply tank, with all the bracing and acoustic wadding required to make this sort of sealed cab really punch. The Drivers are Eminence Gamma-10a drivers (each being 16ohm 300w), and I spent as many hours designing the cab and dimensions specifically for these drivers with my techie university mind etc. as I did building it. I've gigged it hundreds of times and it always impresses. I love the cab but now I'm now lucky enough to be able to afford lighter weight gear and it just isn't getting used. Today, you'll need about £700+ for a new 2x10" cab which can handle 600w+ watts. The only down side, the weight, this bad boy weighs 27kg, hence the castors. Don't get me wrong, if you have the money then go and buy some super light, high end gear, but if (like I was) you want a high power, serisouly good sounding cab, but don't yet have the funds, then this could be the perfect cab for you. As with any DIY cabs, I recommend you try this cab and so feel free to come and give it a go (I'm 20mins from the A1 in South Lincolnshire). I'm also more than happy to bring this along to the Midlands Bass bash on 22nd of April in Nottingham. I know people will have doubts about DIY cabs but this cab is way too good to be sat doing nothing so I'm hoping for £100 someone can get an absolute bargain. Spec: Power: 600 w Impedance: 8ohm Inputs: 1 Jack socket, 1 Speakon socket Dimensions: 69cm, 32cm, 44cm(49 with castors) Drivers: Eminence Gamma-10a drivers - 16ohm 300w Weight: 27kg Handels: Spring loaded x2 Hardware: Heavy duty castors (2 with brakes) black metal corner protectors Any questions let me know

  19. Having lurked on this thread for a while I wanted to add my recent experience as thanks to this knowledge and help for others. I was previously in a band which was full in ears, silent stage, Yamaha mix app on your phone to manage everything and loved it. My main gig is now in a 17 piece Big Band. I sit between the Drummer, the guitar amp and 4 trombones and was concerned I was damaging my ears. Since I'm doubling on Bass Guitar and Double Bass, having enough volume to stay in tune was also becoming an issue. I tried lots of ear plugs (they all muffle the bottom end no matter how flat or "perfect for musicians" they claim to be). So following advice here I got a second hand Zoom H6 and it has been a game changer! My amp volume is lower (correct volume) since I can now hear myself. And the stereo mics on the H6 pick up the whole band way better than expected including speech from the band leader at the other end of the room during rehearsal. I mount it on my tablet stand and angle it away from my amp and drums and send my DI-out to one of the inputs. I plan to experiment with a monitor signal from the PA desk which only has solos, vocals and keys, but should add even more clarity. I already had a pair of Shure 425 which give me a great isolating fit so my ears are protected, I can hear my bass clearer (without deafening everyone else) and all for the cost of a second hand Zoom H6. (Used in multiple rehearsals and 1 gig so far) It hadn't occurred to me that I could run an IEM system for my self in a non mic-ed up big band, so thank you for all the great information in this thread. Feel free to give you selves a pat on the back or ask any questions if you trying to do something similar
  20. I can confirm that my Tuner out is only active when the pedal is muted as per the manual. The mute button is effectively toggling whether the output goes to amp-out/DI/Headphone OR tuner-out (according to the circuit diagrom the Effects Send is the only output not effected by the mute button).
  21. Just to chime in for any android users (since the main apps for managing charts are apple only) I use 2 app: For chord charts I use "setlist helper" (equivalent to OnSong and uses the same chordpro format to allow sharing and has a nice screen scrapping feature). The main use for me is the ability to change key on the fly in a band where you play with a large set list and lots of different singers who can't sing in the same key (church!) but also useful for function band dep'ing if you haven't learnt the full set. Great app, keeps being developed and cheap one off payment (pro only required for transpose and a couple of other features.) The other app I use is Orpheus, I play in a 'Big Band' and need to have 200+ fully notated music charts available (with lots of scribbled annotations) so this manages those PDFs for me and syncs directly with Dropbox. I would love to use ForScore but won't be paying for a 12" iPad just for the use of 1 app when I don't have any other apple products. It's a great app with a small annual fee (cheaper than ForScore), developed by 1 person in Australia who helped me quickly sort out the one bug I had. Also really useful if you dep for a band (e.g. Big Bands in my case) which have fully written charts, since you only need to dump the pdfs on Dropbox and they sync straight through. The only disadvantage to ForScore is it doesn't have the "Jump to" function for D.S. / D.C and other repeats but that's not big deal. I hope that's useful, took me a while to settle on these apps for Android (I also use iReal Pro....great app for Jam sessions!)
  22. A bit late to this post but just want to point you in the direction of my Sandberg customer service experience. Admittedly 4 years ago but the fix they did for me has lasted the test of time and this California TMII 5 is still my main bass and favourite I've ever owned. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/329476-credit-where-credit-is-due-sandberg-customer-service-experience/
  23. How do you mix the levels of the monitor mix and the bass? Do you have to set the volume of the aux from the mixing desk (and hope it's good for the whole gig)? Or do you have some sort of inline volume control with you on stage?
