  1. Hi, Thanks for the tips on getting carpet...I always think its good for people to report back after following advice. I've finished the cab and its gone from being a coffee table to matching almost perfectly with my markbass rig. I actually built the cab before I bought the Markbass gear but amazingly it is exactly the right size for a nice 500W 1 X15 and 2 X 10 stack....NICE...really please with the outcome of the CPC black cab carpet...now I just need to look after it so that it doesn't get scruffy!   3. This thread is really intersting...didn't realise how many people were using IEM. I play at a big church (2000 seater Auditorium with top PA) which only use IEM for all musicians. So they have the full pro inear setup...I have a couple of questions for you guys though: 1. any of you guys play a fretless (especially 5 string+) I've been playing with IEM for years so I'm well used to them but I've never been able to hear enough low end to keep my low notes in tune (especially on B string), so even in this situation I have my cab on stage to give me the low end fill, anyone else find this? 2. I've only ever used IEM in this big auditorium situation with a dedicated Monitor mix engineer, I like using IEM but never thought of using it in a situation where I don't get a dedicated mix too...how do you guys work with in ears if you dont get a full dedicated mix with it? I'd be intersted since the idea of using them in other situations is appealing Cheers, appreciate the feedback

  5. Thanks for all the help guys, that blue aran site looks good unfortunatly they didn't have any of the stuff in stock so I went for the CPC stuff...I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for all the help!
  6. I've had my LMII for nearly 3 years now. I really love it. (only ever played the head but the combo has exactly the same head.) I guess the important things I would suggest you think about (and make yourself aware of) are: 1. It is a vary natural sound....if you like the natural sound of your bass (and have a good quality bass) then I get a feeling you'll love Markbass. 2. The DI is post EQ only on a lot of the modles (Since I run my amp fairly flat this is not a problem and doesn't "Over Colour" the sound...never had a sound guy complain but some dont like this (you can mod it to pre EQ yourself with an internal switch) 3. No tuner mute. This is the biggest complaint you'll hear about a lot of markbass gear...I just use a Planet Waves circuit breaker cable. MarkBass have just release some new products as NAMM 2009: LMIII: I think this is similar to LMII but has Post/Pre EQ switch on the DI and a line out level dial Little Mark 800: As above but with 800W (instead of 500W) Little Mark Tube 800: As above but with Tube pre and the very much needed Mute (why are they not on the other models....I'll never know) it also has phantom power. You'll have to ask other people for views of things like the the digital power amp and tube amps...I've never used them.

Hi, I'm a reader but dont alwasy get chance to post...since I read at work! but could really do with some help sourcing some carpet to cover a DIY cab I built, Originally I vanished it but it's starting to look dated and rather like a coffee table so I'm looking to cover it. In the sticky on DIY cabs I saw: "Cab covering and grille were from www.allangordon.co.uk, I much prefer it to the round ones that Maplin (et al) do. [RichardH note - allangordon are now sadly not trading - I understand retirement was the reason]" and the pic this went with was the sort of thing I'm looking for so if anyone knows where I can get it (or tell me if the Maplin stuff is any good) that would be great! N.B. the closer it can match my Markbass cabs black carpet the better. Thanks!
  8. Just seen this...man would I love that bass...Unfortuantely my new born baby is practiacally eating all my money....unless you want to swap the bass for a 3 month old pooing/crying machine (ready supply of milk nessecary).
  9. yeah thats exactly my thoughts, could be alot of hard work for a little gain (or gain taht could be solved by the drummer learning to keep better time). Also not all song have drums from teh start but i guess we'd just have to have hi-hats for some timing, thats what we did in the old band.
  10. Hey people, Just looking for any knowledge on using click tracks on a live stage. Here's the situation. My click track experience: I spent a year an a "gap year" in a band which play chart and pop music,we used a mini disk player with a backing track and the drummer had a click to keep us all in time with the backing track. I've also used them during recording (obviously) to keep in time with the track. So I have reasonable experience of using them but always as a tool to stay in time with the backing track/recording. The current situation: I play bass in a church band (big church , for the UK) its a 1 year old purpose built 2,000 seater auditorium its great to play in with quality gear, we all use in ear monitoring on the big stage...usualy about 9 musicians and 5 singers. Our drummer is an awesome drummer, he is serisouly good for some one who drumms only at church, however the old joke is true (how do you know if a drummer is at the door? the knocks get faster) So the powers at be have decided to try to add a click track in order to keep things a bit tighter and to stop some of the irratic speed changes which happen every now and again. Any thougths on this? 1. Is it a common technique to use? I've never heard of using clicks for generic live work unless its for a backing track but I guess if its the only way to get your drummer in time? 2. Should all musicians have the click (have any of you bassists ever had a click in your ears for live work) 3.And the main question is what technology to use, My experience of using it was in a band with a 25 song set list so it was just a seperate click for each track which the drummer started from a minidisk player next to him, but at church we have hundreds of songs (most do have a tempo mark thankfully!) so is it just a metronome??? is it the drummer who controls it, 4.Church music often has to have seamless links between songs...how does this work if a new beat has to be set up...its not like a mini disk play where you just hit track 5 and go?? a slick..surely going straight into another song at adifferent tempo is near impossible unless teh click is sounding at the new spend at the end of the 1st song. Sorry this is so long, unfortunatly as the only one who has used clicks before they're all looking to me? Cheers
  11. Also just thought....my old bass tutor used to ALWAYS play his warwick with 'bass tone control' on full... It wasn't my preference but worked for him and was certainly a 'meaty' sound. Maybe this sort of 'drastic' EQing will suit you too?

Warwicks are the sort of bass where you love the sound or hate it, Warwicks are very well made respected basses and unless you got a dodgy one you shouldn't be needing to modify it...I would certainly never dreamof modifying mine!! (unless its a rockbass...im guessing its not) You might be able to get the sound you're looking for through modification (I'm not an expert on that) but if you dont like 'the sound of wood' which is fair enough...sound being so opinion based...then you'er probably wasting you're money trying to pull the warwick character out of a warwick. Why not fined a bass you do like the sound of and flog the warwick...warwick a popular it should be too hard to sell and even you cant afford your dream Fender there are plenty of quality basses out therewhich cost less, especially if you look secondhand?
  13. +1 on the ebay thing... My warwick streamer LX 6 string fretless was £850 off ebay...less than half price and new condition!! I love my warwick but they're not exactly cheap from new!! plus the older basses are considered better builds (I cant remeber the dat but somewhere around 2000 the build process changed ans the die hard warwick fans (not that I'm one of them) swear by the older warwicks (the neck is meant to be the main difference)
  14. Hey there, hope you are getting the cone problem sorted!! just wanted to say (regarding the head situation) That until a year ago I had a TE combo (1990's 15" 12 band 300W....) I absolutley loves it...I was a die hard TE fan (pre gibson and peavey) but then came the great day that I heard a Mark bass amp!! within 2 weeks I had sold the entire combo for the LMII head and I will never look back!!! Seriously if you looking for a quality head which I've never heard any bad reviews about then go for the LMII!! Going from the rediculous features of a TE (12 band eq, 3 band compressor, harmonic emphesisor(never did found out what that was meant to do!), the list goes on) moving to the simple eq and 2 filters of teh LMII i thought I would but restricted but quite teh opposite, I love it. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert since I've never had the oppotunity to play the other heads which you have mentioned but you certainly wouldn't regret the Mark bass...I garantee it! All the best let us know how it goes

    Thanks for the friendly welcome. yeah my fears confirmed I seam to have had my worst fears confirmed...lincolnshire just doesn't have the funk! who knows when I'm a bit more settled (only been here a month) maybe I'll introduce the locals to some new words "funk", "groove", "jazz" as well as teaching them to drive over 15mph! LOL i'm just a city guy stuck on the edge of the fens!!

    Hey all

    Hey guys, this site looks great! I've used TalkBass quite a bit but the US contingency is a bit over whelming so I'm glad I came across this site! A bit about me: I've been playing bass for around 6 years, mainly in Jazz bands (just left Newcastle University Jazz Orchestra - due to graduating not being thrown out) love playing in funky small jazz bands as well as the big band stuff. I also play at my church thats 1500 people worth of church so its great fun! Just moved down to sunny south lincolnshire where there seams to be a destinct lack of jazz and funk... [boooo]. So let me know if you guys know of anything happening that I've missed. My current setup is a Warwick Streamer LX 6 String Fretless and a custom made 6 string fretted (Alan Grey is the named builder for the body other parts I've been told are washburn), bought off my old bass tutor I play through a LMII amp and mark bass traveller 15P 15 "cab....which I love!! So thats me...looking forward to joining in!
