1. I have just purchased a 3/4 sized EUB. I have been fascinated with Upright Basses for a while now. I am so pleased to finally own one. Considering the differences in the way that the instrument is held, and the longer/larger fingerboard scale, I think that I am doing rather well. I have been a bass-guitarist for 15 years, and obviously, I have perfected my left had technique (I'm right-handed). I have read, and been told that I should not use my ring finger when fretting notes....however, I find that it's easier for me to use it......is this a big NO-NO in the Upright Bass world, or is it something that can be considered personal preference? I'm finding my around the fingerboard in terms of intonation and speed by playing various songs from my "function gigs" repertoire. It feels quite familiar to be getting started with this, but will people notice that I'm "playing it like a bass-guitarist" and will this is some way void me from future work? Should I even care?! Many thanks Matt
2. Ah if this was an electric upright, I'd be straight in there

The body is from a 1998 Squier Precision. All the electronics are original to that body. The pickups genuinely sound awesome! I have made a recording of the bass which I can email you if you wish. The neck is from a *brand new* Squier Vintage Modified Precision. I am selling the brand new neck because I prefer Jazz bass necks. The body of the bass has a few dents and dings around the front and edges. Gives it a relic'd look in my opinion. However, the back of the bass is a bit of a mess...I planned to strip the paint-job off completely, and the heat gun that I was using blew up...so I gave up on finishing it. If you are not bothered that it looks like a burns victim on the back, then fine. Or you may want to finish stripping it yourself. The scratchplate is not the original one. It's a little tatty around the pickups, but only visible up close. Apart from the paint work, the overall bass is a really great instrument....even though it's been a bit "frankenstiend" There are brand new medium gauge strings on the bass. I have given it a basic setup, but I'd be happy to set it up to your requirements. I live in Brighton. Can post or meet you halfway for an appropriate cost.
4. Yo, Pretty much as the title suggests, I'm looking for a full (or thereabouts) discography of James Jamersons works. Does anyone know of any torrents, or basically any means of getting all the recordings for these songs? If not, I will make a spotify playlist (I pay for that haha!) but I was wondering if there was a "shortcut" that anyone knows of? Cheers!
5. Hello, I have a question that I still haven't found the answer for...and probably still won't haha! I have a 600w 8ohm 4x10 cab. If I were to run, say, an Ashdown Mag 300 head into this, I would get 175 watts (according to the back of the Mag) into it from the amp because the cab is 8 ohms. If the resultant sound is loud enough for my use at about half (or maybe a touch more) the master volume, will this in any way decrease the life of the amp? As it's trying to power 4x10 speakers that is rated at nearly 4 times the wattage at what it can deliver at 8 ohms? A 2x10 at 150 watts was not quite loud enough for me, so I'm hoping to keep the cab (so that I can upgrade head in future when I have more money), and use the 175 watts from an old Ashdown Mag head. I'm hoping that double the speakers at a bit more wattage will do the trick for now. Matt
6. I thought you paid for one "thread" per year for £7, so I thought you had to use the same thread rather than make a new one...
7. Above posts are because this used to be a listing for my old Laney amp. I've now edited it to be for the Jazz bass body
8. Hello! I have been on the verge of getting an Ampeg PF350 as I am very impressed with the tonal range when I've used various ones at gigs and rehearsal studios, and the price (I can get one brand new for £219). However, the Ashdown Dual Tube 330 Spyder head has caught my attention. I've never owned a tube "valve" bass amp before.... These retail at a minimum price of around £250... Has anyone had any exprerience with this, or any other tube heads? Are they as delicate as normal guitar tube amps? All of the tranny amps that I have owned have never let me down (apart from when I drunkenly plugged my Laney R4H into the speaker out of my mates Hartke combo...!!) I haven't bought a new head for ages as I've been using a combo, but I would like to know if this (or any) tube head can stand the gigging life? Matt
9. Hi there, In large venues where I've had to use it as my only backline (volume almost full, and gain about 3/4), when the signal peaks the speakers make a kind of farty distorted sound. If you have a good compression pedal, then I reckon that will clear it up. But most venues of that size DI you out anyway, so you'll have anther monitor for that. But I used it in a large hotel lobby last night (Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne), and I had the volume on about 4 and it was absoutely fine and sounded great. For reference, I was using a Fender Jazz with relatively old strings, and it still sounds nice and bright thorugh the combo. So I wouldn't really recommend this if you want it for balls-out rock and cranking it (unless you have an 8ohm cab that you can use with it), but other than that it's a great combo! Where do you live? Matt

I have recently bought a P-bass, but I prefer the Jazz neck...plus I like that amount that I've worn it in too! SO, I am selling the loaded body of the Jazz bass on it's own. This bass HONESTLY sounds great! Awesome, even tone, and the bridge pickup seems to be especially good for the stock one that it is. The serial number on the neck is MN5133376 which suggests 1995-1996 a it's a Mexican body. The scratchplate looks like it's been resprayed black (a rather good job done), but on closer inspection you notice it a little more. As you can see in the photos, this body has has taken quite a few knocks...obviously nothing that affects the sound, but I think it makes it look nice and vintage The colour is also rather nice in that it's a deep sunburst, almost slightly orange. There is also screw-hole on the back as I had my strap button on there (I like the bass to be more central). But I've rescrewed it back to the original position. £150 please. I live in Brighton, so pick-up if you want, or I can post with express courier for a further £8.
11. Such a shame this isn't a 4ohm otherwise I would snatch it up my friend! I'm getting an Ampeg Portaflex 350....but it would only deliver 250 watts into an 8 ohm cab...wouldn't really be worth having this cab if I could only get 250 watts out of it

13. Hi, I have a Ricky copy (made by Aria in 1976). I bought it off ebay about a year ago, and someone had previously modded it with a phase-switch and various other switches. I have just removed them, and I realised that the bridge pickup has two wires coming out of it, both of these wires contain a red, blue, and a naked wire within them. I tried soldering the ends of the wires and re-wiring like a standard J-pickup...but alas it's not working. Could someone give me some tips on how to wire this pickup in a standard "volume-tone-jack" configuration?? The pots are standard with 3 terminals. A photo is here: http://i1221.photobu...rkes/photo1.jpg I hope that made sense. Thanks!
14. We have been together for about a year now. The guitarist and I have been in bands together for 11 years now...all the way from Green Day and Nirvana covers, to this band. We have been building a considerable amount of buzz round our home town of Brighton (UK), which is great for a purely instrumental band. You can see it here: Everything was recorded live....and MANY apologies for my savage sweat patches...it was BOILING in that room haha!! Enjoy
