Ah, shame I can't make this one! I will be in Manchester that day but back in the evening for gig in Revolution, Castle Street in Cardiff centre at around 22.30. (Anyone would like to give an Ergo EUB a tickle is welcome to then and there.) Have a good one!
Ah shame. Well, have a good gig anyway .... Is this you?

Ask for the contract and get a Musicians Union lawyer to check it for you - or at least tell them that's what you are going to do. I suspect all interest in your band will dry up very rapidly. Also ask for the rules of the "battle" BOTB's always have some in my limited experience. It's usually "biggest crowd wins and sod the talent" but that's by the by... This is a "15 minutes of fame" type thing - you are seduced into doing something you would never ordinarily do for the chance of being on telly somewhere .. Run away, and fast.... +1 on leave out the religion discussion. I don't think it has any relevance here

Run away..... Spend the time getting real gigs. Oh and send that first post to the shop ....

You will be amazed at what a modern lightweight little cab can do .. Talk to Alex at Barefaced about your needs and desires (in a bass sound way of course )

If anyone can help out with the jobs on the day, please let me know.. Stuff like manning the registration desk, security, raffle stuff, etc... Thanks, Simon
My only point was, that, there's a general rule - if you trying to repair anything on your own - you loosing your warranty. And doesn't matter that's 99 pence volume pot, £40 scratchplate or £2500 amp. I'm not going to argue with you anymore, as I feel really sorry for Nigel, and all this topic is going to be more about marketing than bass. Regards Kris
Kris You are completely correct. If you try to fix it, rather than return it as broken on delivery, or whatever, then sure you forfiet the chance of returning the goods as faulty. Of course because you could have broken it in the process of trying to fix it. That's fair enough. Not exactly the case here is it? Tom's right and I'll shuddup now
You absolutely right, it would be nice but.. what's a point to be nice to a guy who made a mistake, and then calls all the world, by starting this topic and making complaint to Fender, how bad is company behavior. Hope that's clear what I trying to say, and sorry to Nigel, that's nothing personal Kris
Well, lets see.... First rule of retail. Tehcustomer is alays righ. Why? well one happy customer will tell a few people how great the service was and maybe a few people will come back and maybe the music shop will continue to be able to compete against the likes of Dolphin, GAK and Thomann who are generally wiping out the high street shops by being very competitive AND providing outstanding customer service. One unhappy customer will tell 100 people how crap the shop's attitude is. The bricks and mortar people have to really pull out the stops these days as their good personal service will counter the cheapness of the online warehouse people. If they can't do that then there's no future for them in music retail, other than selling Christmas guitar packs to hassled parents. So are you going to risk buying something frm Absolute Music now? I would bet these people sopend hundreds of punds a year on advertising yet the best possible advertisment is "tell a friend". They have lost that and big time, all for £20 worth of bent scratchplate ....
I feel sorry seeing bc-er loosing money, but on this occasion I think the shop customer service is right. You can't just try to repair thing on your own and then send it back. Sorry, that's my opinion Kris
Yes but how different this thread would have been had they said ," humm well you shoudln't have done that, really, but here's a tenner off a new one and you can keep the bent one as we'll just throw it in the bin anyway"

Yeah Mark, What are you going to do with a neck that long????? Have you seen the "infinite fretless neck" bass on the Shuker site? Side marker problems with mine too (and no pictures so no build thread ...) The grumpy and reluctant LED supplier in the UK didn't send enough LED's cos some twit can't count  Anyway called them and they sent a new package, however no packing slip or LEDs in the package when it arrived... Italian postal service being what it is we assumed the worse. Plus there was an odd strip of suff in the package.. I snt a pic off to the supplier "those are the LEDs" er whaaa? Ordered a new set and they showed up this week.. no LEDs same odd strip .. So we have a neck with one less than required installed ...... On hold til I get one more LED to Erick. Called th supplier (again) and finally he worked out that he's been sending front LED's that are like flat disks.... What I need is one normal LED bulb on wire legs .. Doh! So once again a package is en route to Italy meanwhile my neck is in "set aside" .. ho hum.. Deadline Nov 29th for the Cardiff bass bash .... Fingers crossed the packet gets out of the UK before the strike, makes it to Italy and then doesn't dissapear that end.. "Signed for" is the only way to send anythuing to Italy in the post ...

I'd been playing a while by then but, boy, did that change what I did and how I wanted to sound

Hypathetically? Wife 0, Music 10 Sorry wife. Yes, I have been married before and "why do you have to practice at home and go to rehearsals? Can't you just play the gigs?" was part of the decision.

Put them both on their sides and the head on top of the pile. Add side feet as required, or a thick layer of foam. I tie mine together with a luggage strap to stop any possibility of parts falling off. Of course the whole lot could still fall over as one
-
They may not be legally required to do anything, however it's daft business these days that doesn't weigh the pros and cons of a situation like this they'd loose, what £20? and for that they'd have a happy customer telling a few friends what a good shop they are. Instead they keep their £20 and loads of people will hear how they were inflexible and not good to deal with. It's a short sighted approach. A good business would take the hit, learn from this and add a request for information on origin and year for any future sales of this product.

Poor Customer Service Award - Andertons, Guildford
OldGit replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
That is the perfect response and exactly how a shop (or any business) should react to someone brave enough tp point out a shortcoming in their service. Well done Andertons. -
We just went through this process here at home. I looked at dedicated instrument insurance and it was usually >£!00. Joining MU is, what, £150? To get us extra cover on our house insurance for high value items taken out of the home up to a value of, say, £3K added an extra £20 or so to the premium. Seemed the best solution to me.
Make sure it covers musical instruments used for pro or semi pro performance in a public place, assuming that's what you do with it. Find out the definitions now rather than after some oik has nicked your pride and joy from your car. As Tom Waits Once Sang "The big print giveth and the small print taketh away"
-
... and don't forget the with the MU you also get free public liability cover in case anyone sues you for damaging their hearing or dropping a bass cab on their foot
... or crashing into your PA and having a top box fall on their head ... because they are blind drunk and can't control their feet ... Only really need it for a whole band though ...
