Website has been swapped, just lots of editing and expanding for me to do now. Good idea about the press area, will put one of those together! Alex
Excellent! Now go all out for publicity, reviews, inbound links from other bass places etc. Tons of places out there to get a mention. Good to see it moving, Alex OG
How would I do that without having to do all my own tax returns. At the moment I don't do any paperwork for my tax as it is all done by the Navy. If I started claiming my musical earnings and expenses would i have to stop doing PAYE on my normal wages? More importantly, if I was spending more than I was earning as a musician, could I claim it against my overall income, ie pay less tax on my naval wage?!!!!!
YOu register as a self emplyed person as well as your day job. Check the navy don't mind 'cos some employers do. And I'd not try that cross tax stuff....
Does anybody know where we stand legaly with this king of small cash income, of course I know that we all usually take the cash and that there is not normaly an auditable trail, but it is my adverts that i am worried about attracting attention.
You earn it, you pay tax on it. Simples .... This is one that comes around quite often so a search using "thread title" in "advanced search" will bring up some reading material for you but here's a recent 4 pager http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54469&hl=tax

Yes. Keep records of everything you earn and spend on band related stuff. There's a long list of what you can claim from food, dry cleaning, travel, gear, maintenance, writing off capital value (that's your gear), phone calls , internet, computers if you use one to take bookings etc etc etc You'll not pay much.
I used to have vintage Fender GAS until I got a vintage Fender.
Rather ambiguous ... Did you: A ) find it was the answer to all your dreams, attracted women (and/or men of course) like wasps to a cream tea and cured your GAS for ever B ) something else?
There isn't one on the list yet, so I'll bring along my nice new G-B Shuttle 6.0 (now added to list ) I won't bother bringing cabs as it looks like there will be plenty there already*. Will definitely bring my cans though..! Not sure I'll be doing much playing, as it's only going to be 3 weeks after my carpal tunnel operation. * Unless anyone desperately wants to see/hear a pair of Nemesis 1x15s..?
Carpel tunnel op? Sorry to hear that, Rich. Take your Arnica 6c homeopathic for a few weeks beforehand to speed recovery .... Meanwhile I'd like to hear the Shuttle 6 and the Barefaced cabs in action, specially with your Shukerooo
Actually, I have a second complaint - it's turning me into a tone snob. Before I owned this rig, I could happily play through pretty much any bass amp, but now I'm much more tuned in to the limitations of badly-designed speaker enclosures. S.P.
ha ha well if that's your only problem.......

I was actually only after one new bass, but then this happened...
There was a bit of mixing of necks going on during this period (basses 1 and 3) but here's some detail: 1. '75 body/'73 B width neck. PUPs etc original. Good bass. 2. Bitsa fretless with rosewood board and SD PUPs. B width neck. Surprisingly good bass really 3. '73 body with JPUP at neck (matched J/P pair from Wizard), '75 A-width Precision neck. More of a Jazz really 4. '77 maple board fretless. Awesome, just awesome. Have spent most of this year finding another like it 5. '82 Fullerton '57 Reissue. C width neck. Light as a feather, great sustain, great treble response. Exceptional build quality & tight neck pocket. Clearly not an authentic Fender Precision 6. '78 with non-original ebony fretless board. B-width neck. A monster, weighed a ton and sang. Tone was a bit bright for my liking. The shocking thing is that the pic was taken just over two years ago and I no longer own any of them (I think the therapy helped) Chris
0) Need some more Precisions? I can help there, Chris -
Bummer ! I'm out of the country that day with work. Could have brought Nash 58 P-Bass, Jazz bass with Status fretless P-bass neck, Jap Maple Unlined Fretless P-bass, Jap Fender P-Bass with Dark Stars and block inlays, Lakland 55-02 with unlined fretless maple fingerboard, Sadowsky Metro 24 with VTC - oh and a Schroeder 15L cab/Genz-Benz Neo-Pack 350. Would like to have a mini-Welsh bass bash in the new year to beat the gloom......??
Oh you tease! Mini bash in the new year sounds good. I may have recovered from this one by then

Hey Mark Wow, stunning 62 (63?? pah!) and that black n maple too gorgeous and very JJB ... -
I lent a (£1000) combo to a responsible grown up experienced sober musician friend of mine a few years ago. His had gone bang that afternoon and he had a good gig to play. When it came back the next day he told me the dolly trolley wheels were crap on kerbs when he had walked it the 3 miles home at 3 in the morning. the carpet was all ripped up underneath .... I do like to help though so I bought gear I can lend out. I have an old Peavey 300 combo and a Japanese P bass that, should they return with damage I'd not be too upset. The Peavey's been on a few adventures without me since I got it and the P bass has had a few oiks play it at jams. No damage so far (except to te audience when the guy borrowing the Peavey found out how loud Peavey watts are ) But no, I'll not lend my nice gear to anyone.
Ah no worries, the bass is probably sold, just pending the payment now but if that falls through you'll be the first to know. YEAH!! Show me the parcelforce picture, i've always used em and they've been fine - apart from they should be called Parcelforce 72 as opposed to 48....
You realise that the maximum they insure musical instruments for is £150, no matter what the counter staff tell you or sell you? Here's how I know. Now, to find the small print that covers this monumentous limitation for us bass shippers, you have to go to the parcelforce website and do a search on "guitar". Follow the link in the search results called "packaging guidelines" then scroll down to the paragraph entitled "Prevent movement of items in transit" and there it is, clearly stated... "Musical instruments will only be covered up to £150 of compensation for loss or damage" The counterstaff may not know it's there but the claims people do. Use Royal Mail Special Delivery 48 - it's not Parcelforce ...
Thanks chaps, most helpful, it's really appreciated. I think it could be a long search, but I am a patient type,
Best get a large jar and put all your £2 coins in it as you wait .... and possibly all your £1 ones too .. and fivers ... There's two late 70's Precisions here: http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk/ForSale/sh/sh.aspx Scroll down the page. I used to own the red one. Very nice, very heavy. The natural's nicer.
