OldGit replied to OldGit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
And I've never seen a sunburst Fender with the forearm and rear cutaways sprayed in black like that. Cheapo plywood planks turn up painted like that all the time though...
looks like plywood to me too ... -
Maybe it just needs a decent setup.
Shuuuuuuuush!
I had a BB614. The neck is about half way between a Jazz and a Precision. Soundwise the neck pickup does the business on the BB and can do a nice fat thump without any issue. For the money you can't really go wrong.
Thanks, helpful stuff ...
Well, that's a suprise. I always thought myself imune to trademark hype. My first bass is a JV precision (big squier, small fender, JV0570) If I'm reading your posts and links correctly then this is basically a fender made in Japan with a Squier logo on it, and is a pretty good p bass. It cost me a tenner 5 years ago, havent played it for 2 years coz in my opinion it's a bag of sh*te. so either I am a victim of hype and I didn't like it coz I'm thinking it's a cheap jap copy, or fender p's really are overhyped overpriced planks... On the up-side it's in a pretty cood condition, with one small belt-buckle chip so maybe I should flog it off to boost my stingray fund. (White with tort 3ply scratchplate any offers? ... )
PM

So ...... in my search for a beater Japanese Fender P bass for reasonable money (got one? PM me)! I've found a Yam BB414 for sale within my budget. So the question is how close are these to P bases in terms of neck feel and sound? Anyone in a position to compare the two? Thanks
Is that what it says at the end of the headstock?...you have better eyesight than me and i stand corrected
ha ha... I assume so. It looks like it, has never appeared on any P bass I've seen and, well, that's what he's quoting in the title ...... -
Hmmm...dunno, the neck at the body end does have the serial number in the right place for a MIJ...'FENDER PRECISION BASS ORIGINAL CONTOUR BODY - BARGAIN' is what he says...he doesn't actually say it's a jazz...benefit of the doubt and all that i'd say that he mentions the contour body to differentiate it from a slab body P? I'll stick me neck out here and say genuine. 96/97 mij according to the serial number.
Countour stickers only appear on Jazz basses AFAIK -
A quick one. Are all jap squier equal, or are some better then others? Jap squier oe MIM fender?
Jap Fender, IMHO
-
Nah first series are considered top dogs .. That's the ones with a big Fender, small Squier on teh headstock, circa 83 or so... Not sure about the serial prefix... JV series are the next ones - Big Squier, small "by Fender" Those two are considered to be better ones. The rest are "the rest" More info: Wikipedia on Squier
At the risk of stating the obvious surely in this context PRS stands for Precision.
Nah Teh S must stand for Strat "BASS ELECTRIC GUITAR STRAT" -
