1. Managed to delete 50MB's off mine.
 2.
Yes but the G&L's PUPs aren't shielded and are prone to hum, hence why the Nord's are a common upgrade!
Common upgrade? Sounds like you've made up your mind already.
 3. The fact of the matter is Red will sound like a G&L (which is the whole point) while Blue will sound nice (probably very nice) but not like a G&L. And if you think you'll be able to just pick up a set of those G&L pups to return it to it's former glory, think again.
 4.
I'd find the cash to buy both, swap the pups and keep the hollow body/nordstrand bass, then flog the other one. Not much help, sorry! EDIT: Actually, the blue sparkle one looks ace, get that!
I like your plan A.
 5.
Aargh... I'm not sure I'm smart enough for this Internet thingie..
We all have days like that.
 6.
....Posting here I've lost the other thread again.
What, the one that's linked to a couple of posts up?
 7. Google says - 1963 Framus Star Bass.
 8.
....In short then, bad musicianship sucks, good musicianship rules.....
So how come Hooky supposedly rules? Oh hang on different thread, different set of standards.... coat.
 9.
How sweet, she just needs the Stingray and the mohawk.
I'd probably let her too.
I think it's safe to say no Dad wants their daughter to be a Slapper
Luckily she takes more after me than her mum.
Lovely. She looks a natural....
She normally doesn't get to touch my basses but this time it didn't really matter and that struck me about her too. Who knows maybe she'll be the first Nobel winning supermodel bassist.
Our eldest pain in the arse... ...And of course the one she harped on about getting but never touches..
Ah-ha purple must be the in colour.
 10. She wants to be like daddy. Actually this one's a little too big for a wee 5 year old, so she wants me to build her a smaller purple one.
 11.
....Really musical people know other really musical people will find a single note played with extreme taste much more impressive, and that one note will say more about the player and his personality than thirty two in the same measure ever can. Unfortunately really musical people have always been in the minority.
One of my most favourite bass players that I've met on here and listened to playing, actually has me blown away by the notes he doesn't play. Sometimes the music is between the notes.
 12.
Gibson are to bass guitars what Alembic are to guitarists.
Better not let Neepheid hear you say that.
 13.
That'd explain my head then...
14. Yes, I am on a lot but I don't have BC pages open all day long. Besides I do get notifications when I'm online (& off). I've just reviewed all my post from today (after my BB went down for most of the evening) and about half of them that I'm subscribed to haven't notified me of any new posts at all. I just wonder how much I've missed out on in the past because of this - or worse, how many times have I appeared to have rudely ignored someone because I've not been notified of a reply.
 15.
ffs man dont go there....yrs ago i was pissed and bid,won and payed for a Yam fzr1000....... to discover next morning it was a non runner.....collect from Tottenham
16.
Perhaps it's time to leave the poor f***er alone. Maybe he's got some issues we're not aware of and this might be tearing him apart for all we know. I'd be supremely upset and embarrassed. But I probably wouldn't have started a thread like that anyway. Nevertheless ..
+1 All this hilarity at his expense could be quite TIMatic. Mind you, considering his original outburst, he might not be receiving a TIMendous amount of TIMpathy just yet. It'll all blow over soon enough though. And as we know, TIM heals all wounds. Tim.
 17. It's not too uncommon a phenomenon. I've heard of this happening on other basses. Specific frequencies cause specific threaded components to "spontaneously unscrew". A bass' job is to vibrate, if you dig in too much and increase the strength of the vibes beyond normal tolerences... bingo. Obviously in this example the grub screws are slacker than normal in the first place. Preventing the vibrations by the above methods will inhibit it more or less permanently.
 18.
...Is it feasible/realistic/a good/bad idea to use some kind of fixative on the saddle grub screw - for example, a light threadlock, or some of the missus's nail varnish....
Sounds like a plan.
 19.
I agree, it isn’t knurling . . . . it’s just an example of good old Leo Fender at his most resourceful and practical best ! . . . threaded bar ! I’ve read somewhere that early Fenders often used simple and cheap threaded bar to make the saddles for their instruments. Probably due to nothing more straightforward than it was cheaper (most likely) or easier from a production point of view (second most likely) ? . . Certainly a totally pragmatic low tech solution to the requirements of a saddle !... ...One things for sure – I bet Leo Fender would have said there’s no difference in tone between using a smooth steel saddle as apposed to a threaded one ? . . . . . . But no doubt there are loads of people who’ll think differently ?
I totally agree.
 20. I think if anything they reduce the string's contact area at the bridge (unless you have a small enough string gauge that can be "cupped" by the pitch) - which runs contrary to any of the other mumbo-jumbo about maximum contact = sustain.

 22. Just bought a wee Squire off Shirli. The bass was well packaged in a guitar box and bubble wrapped to the nines. Great to deal with and some funny comms too. Cheers. Rich.
 23. A skilled solderer might be able to save it. Try not to wiggle the few strands that are left as they will snap quite easily.
 24. The drummer in my old band was at it all the time. He'd buy up concert tickets the second they were available then flog them off for a stupid profit which paid for his tickets, flights, accommodation, merchandise (some of which he'd later sell on the bay using the same technique) etc. He'd text me to place a bid for him - proof that not all shills have zero feedback bidders. I grudgingly did it a couple of times coz he's a mate, then after that told him to poke it. Turned out he had his entire network of mates doing it for him. He probably makes it to at least one major gig somewhere in the world every month.
 25.
That actually looks interesting. If the lipstick's no good, you could replace it with one of these. Maybe it won't go for a vintage price, but won't be holding my breath.
Would be nice but my guess is that someone will see a bunch of vintage parts there rather than a neat custom or restoration.
