Totally agree - the Flips are great in daylight but pretty rubbish in the dark. If you can, I'd go for sthg like a Nikon D7000 with lens opened up, but switch focus to manual. The main thing here is high ISO - the D7000 hits 25600.
The noise level at 25600 in lowlight would be unbearable for a quality video..surely? Just checked it out on DP review and you would have to be desperate to use an ISO that high. I would have thought you'd be better off hiring a decent lens for the night and bringing the ISO down to a usable level. Unless you wanted the noise level as a specific feature of your video..In my experience there are very few digital camera ccds that cope well with high ISO settings.

Thanks guys. It is a toss up as to which way to go. Totally with the "Bad publicity isn't good publicity" slant...will probably go with trying to get a local organistation involved.

We fancy videoing a live show..but with good quality video. Sound from the desk and mixed seperately. Just wonderd what you guys thought was the best camcorder to shoot it on. Obviously it needs to be able to cope with lowlight, strobing and lasers etc...Best to hire one or get in the pros? What do you think. It will be used for promo and Youtube etc..not a resale item. Any thoughts or comments gratefully received. Thanks
have you been to the muse board?
Don't get me started. lol......I just let them get on with it, sit back and laugh! ;-) Re; Starlight...you can get a pretty good representation using one amp set up, I used to.. but it is better to run a clean amp with Octave and then a distorted channel and blend the two...I am pretty sure that is what Chris does. He plays high on the neck and there are definitely subs in there from his OC 2...technique is really important on Starlight..If you watch Chris play, despite having a machine gun three finger right hand technique, he tends to use his first finger only when playing Starlight..it gives it that metronomic feel and allows a consistency that is hard to beat even using 2 fingers.... -

I use it a lot in Our Muse trib. The secret to great fuzz is to use a bi amp system if you can..that way you can run your distortion through one channel and keep a clean signal through the other..it makes a MASSIVE difference to sound quality and will leave you wondering why you never did it before.....A huge amount of fuzz and distortion pedals lose nearly all of the bottom end..hence keeping a clean channel. There is a good fuzz sound on New Born http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhduQhDqtb4 at 1.28 or Bliss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMqsWc8muj8 you can hear the distorted bass best at about 50-52 seconds, when the guitar drops out. Bass in Starlight is another, although you have to factor in Octave pedals etc with that... Hysteria is another good one..I know how the sound is made, most don't, but I am not going to open that can of worms here..there are plenty of threads of good and bad info on how that was produced! Hope that helps..although it is a bit Muse biased but it is what I know best...lol The other great site to check out is www.bassfuzz.com where they test loads of fuzz and distortion pedals..I found it really interesting. -
A plunge Router is the way to go. You don't need to get an expensive one just get good tct cutters. The real trick is to always make a template of the pickup / trem cut out etc first and then use a router with a bearing guide cutter to follow round the inside of your template. Something like this but I use a very small one so I can keep the corners tight. http://www.carbideprocessors.com/products/...ide-Tipped.html I tend to use 1-2mm plastic or resin sheets to cut out a template using a pillar drill and a jigsaw with a very fine blade..then you can sand them perfectly before sticking or clamping to your pride and joy and routing away. Make sure all faces of the template are really smooth as the cutter will follow every imperfection. Using a system like this allows you to fine tune your template until you have a perfect fit. Much better to ruin a template than your bass. Ultra sharp chisels are a must otherwise, but if you get your template right first you shouldn't have any need for one. The other bonus of routing is being able to fine tune the depth of the cut out to exacting tolerances. If like me you have been routing for years it is possible to freehand rout ..I did a friends floyd rose trem fit freehand the other day..but you have to to be super confident in your abilities and know your equipment 100%..oh and have a very steady hand!
Hiya. How much Valve do you run? My ABM500 evo valve went recently and the vol dropped massively till I turned the drive right off, then the volume returned. Also, maybe check the amp via the D.I into another amp, see if the pre-amp section is ok, may be your output stage is kaput. MM
I don't run a lot of valve but will check out your ideas..much appreciated.
As you're running a bi-amped setup, the first thing to do would be to isolate the two halves of the setup and see if the problem is still there. If you still get distortion then I'd take a look at the 'valve drive' controls and make sure they're not adding to or creating the problem. As far as I'm aware, if you have the 'valve drive' control set to 'out' then it makes no difference if the valves are shot or not. I have to say though, it is unusual to find a frequency selective amp problem and I'd be more inclined to look at the speakers again. HTH
Thanks for the info so far...this is what I have tried...I have tried sepereating the channels and there is still a problem..I am going to try a 4x10 cab that I have to double check that it is an amp problem..not a cab issue. I will take a look at the valve side and see if there is anything there that might be wrong. Obviously I have checked all leads etc to make sure that it isn't that simple..

I use this amp along side a Marshall head to achieve a bi amp system. At rehearsal the other day turned on the amp and struggled to get any significant output volume. It was also distorting, sounded like a farty speaker (sorry but it is the best description I can think of) at certain frequencies..Ab and G specifically. I only use this for a warm clean bass sound running the graphic fairly flat..bass knob at about 1 o'clock..the rest at about 12 o'clock..Speakers are fine..definitely an amp problem.... Anyone got an ideas as to the cause of a significant drop in output volume? Just to save the questions..i have checked cables..volume control knob (Hasn't come loose) thought it might be my bass so checked on a different amp..no problem there.. Any help gratefully received. Thanks

Got a friend looking for a cheap bass for his son..Been offered a fully made up Precision Body and he has found a jazz neck on Ebay..would make a very cheap bass..Anyone know if they fit together as standard items? I know the Jazz neck is much thinner at the nut but don't know how that translates at the body end.. Anyone know if they are compatable? Thanks

Had the Hurcules set up at rehearsal the other day..3 basses used and always swapping from one to another and it worked perfectly. I thought at the time that was a touch pricey but it is very well made and cheaper than buying 3 seperate stands....highly recommend it. Just a very well though out bit of kit...

Thanks everyone... I went on the net had a good look round at the two. I found a Hercules with a three guitar capacity which will really help me out with one of the bands I play with, as I use the Jazz, Ric and a K5 Fieldy 5 string..so money down to GAK 4.30 pm yesterday..arrived 10.30 this morning. I don't like buying blind but I have to say it is solid and seems very well built...why I have struggled with other stands in the past is beyond me...Massive big up to GAK for their turn around time. Now lets see how it holds up on the gigging circuit...from initial impressions I would say that it looks tough and should do really well......... Thanks again for all your advice........brilliant as always

Might be a bit of an odd request but as I recently bought and gig a Jazz Deluxe I am looking for a stand that works with the offset of the bottom of the body and that won't sit on the jack lead...I use a Ric as well and so could possibly go for a dual hang system? Anyone got any recomendations? It seems that a lot of stands don't take into account of the lead coming out of the bottom of the body and the supports nearly always foul on them... Thanks

Need to rackmount Ashdown Head..is there a kit?
My mate made me some aluminium ones which worked ok but I think bolting it up the top of a rack case would be better. The bottom of the tray is all covered and will be fine. Thanks for the pat on the back
Any time -
Years ago I explored this avenue and drew a blank however I do remember reading that a Bassworld member used a 2U rack tray upside down. He drilled 4 holes in the tray to pick-up on the captive nuts in the amp chassis where the sleeve screws normally go. Hope this helps.
This is also a great idea as it would stop you being able to get into the top. Thanks -
I had my MAG400 in a rack for a while. I bought a couple of generic lugs off Ebay & stuck them on. I had to use a few washers to get the spacing right. If I remember, they didn't bolt on at every position possible, but went on the rack OK & didn't move around. The MAG is back in its case now & the lugs are in the drawer.. You can have them for postage if you're interested. G.
Do you mean a sort of "L" bracket? If they work with the ABM I would definitely cover the postage for them. Thank you. Why don't you PM me a figure and we can sort out payment for the postage -
Been here before too, the problem is the rack mountable version has a full chassis where if we are all on the same page the ones like mine are just an open tray which contraveines electrical regs of double insulated parts or earthed and fully enclosed casing (I'm an electrician) so Ashdown won't suggest this as an option as you could put your hands in the amp even when in a rack case if there's room. They wouldn't even sell me a separate ply cab which would of solved my issue of wanting my ABM Evo 300 head out of the combo it was in. The problem sorted itself when it went bang and EBS freak lent me his rig until the Genz rig came along to replace it. I think that's my first ever actual knowledgable post on BC , do I win a prize or anything?
Yes..yes you do. Come over her..cmon now.... take this massive pat on the back and a big hug from me as way of thanks! Thanks. Useful info to. -

I did and frankly, not what I was expecting, they were completely disinterested in helping. Very disappointing. So I thought I would come back to a place where people are generally a lot more friendly and helpful. -
HI prettty much as the topic header says. I have a load of stuff to go in a rack mount and while I am at it I want to put my heads in there as well (amp heads ..I am not Beeblebrox .. )..Marshalls are covered but I need a rackmount kit or some Brackets for an ABM 300 head, currently in its own standard plywood casing..I think I posted this before but I can't find it!! I want to take the amp out of the casing and mount it in a big RU shod flight case..I have seen people put the whole thing in to a foam slot..not for me too much weight with the rest of the stuff that is going in there. Anyone out there know of such a kit or someone who has had something made? Is it going to be a visit to my local engineers or is there something off the shelf? Thanks for any help in advance..

Well I bought the MIM jazz deluxe off a really nice guy called John. The frets needed a tickle and are now as smooth as a babys..he set up really nicely with a great action for me..bartolinis fitted and the originals as well. It plays so much easier than the Rick and also has a much more authentic sound for Muse than with the Ric...it also make playing Hysteria a lot easier as well as the neck on the Ric is pretty fat up there! I made a matt black pickguard for it and when we have a break in our gig schedule in Feb it is booked to be put into candy tangerine....the coolest colour. Here it is getting it's first live outing at the Sound circus, Bournemouth... will post photos after its facelift..I am a happy bunny! Thanks for all you advice
