rock and a hard place with celestion speakers
Dudgeman replied to mikebass78's topic in Amps and Cabs
Mate I have a trace 1510x cab and upgraded my 15 to a 400w 8ohm (original was a 300w) BL celestion speaker about a year and a half ago.. did loads of research and upgraded all my 4x10 speakers while I was doing it. Dealt with the company posted (Lean) through the net who were awesome. Thought hard about going NEO but didn't have the funds but aparantly they are loads lighter. Reasonable money and they delivered for free, which when you consider the weight of 5 speakers was amazing. Give them a ring. -
RE; Mr Hedges...I do indeed know him of old..Hopefully finally going to come and see you guys at the Furnace, Swindon in Nov (I believe)..really looking forward to it...
I'm told that it's pretty much the only boss pedal not to have had the components / board change over it's production run, making each pedal identical except cosmetically
Thanks guys...thats sorted that for me..

Hi all Just a quick one Is there much of a difference between a vintage (say 90's) OC-2 and more modern versions.. I'm talking about internals and sound quality not casings... Cheers

I agree with Cetera..a good post. Also...I belive you know Mr Hedges, god help you. I also play In a tribute band. Bizzarely around Oxford a lot of venues won't book a Trib act giving the space to Originals only..So it is not all one way traffic. Whenever possible we also try and give a support slot to local original bands. In our case it has also involved a reasonable investment of Money and time and we do it, not to make money (although that would be nice), but because all three of us love the band and the musical challenge it poses. I hope we improve gig on gig and what we do best is give people the chance to see almost 2 hrs of Muse covering songs from all albums, including some of the more off the wall songs that Muse probably will never play again, as they have to concentrate on promoting new music. Also when was the last time you saw a 2 hr show at a Muse concert? As one other post also said, to see them at Wembley inc travel would probably have cost almost £90.00 to come and see us starts at £6.00... Value for money..I hope so. We also dress to look like them..hell I have to dye my hair which brings snorts of derision from a lot of mates, but if your going to do it..do it as best you can..Still haven't managed to get our drummer in a spiderman suit yet though ;-) As a fan of live music I now rarely go to stadium/arena venues to watch bands as I don't enjoty the lack on intimacy in such large venues..for example..I have seen AC/DC 5 or 6 times..the last time was at some big out door thing..they were great, the experience sucked.. then I saw Live Wire in Swindon with 300 others and they were absolutely brilliant..but best of all you could feel the music and the atmosphere, it was how I imagined it would have been if you had seen them when they first started. So I think we, as tributes, have a huge role to play for both the fans, and the bands themselves, as, don't forget, we provide a huge amount of free promotion for them as well. As a musician I try to play all sorts of genres because I love to expand my musical variety (there isn't a lot I haven't played)..if you are stuck in a world of playing jazz may I suggest you join the backing band and throw yourself into it wholeheartedly..who knows you might just enjoy it. Music is fun...bass is the best bit..one thing presumably everyone on this site would agree with. I absolutely hate musical snobbery, especially in the bass world, we all have our preferences but I feel it is hard to profer a balanced opinion unless you have tried something first....get out there and gig..show people you are enjoying it and then you'll get the enjoyment from all those hours practising. Hell who knows you might just learn a thing or two www.myspace.com/hypermused
Just bought a lovely Trace Elliot amp from this fine Basschatter. If you want to deal with Carl you won't find a more helpful, friendly and above all honest man. He pointed out a possible - and I stress possible - fault with the amp ( I could find nothing wrong) and insisted on a financial adjustment in my favour. Add to this driving to meet me, arranging a place for us to set up and try out the gear and waiting patiently for me to arrive (late). Great communications and an all round nice bloke.
Thanks and nice words. Hope the gig went well and the Trace performed. Lovely to have met you and keep in touch...love a bit of Madness...
If the lead you are using for the ricosound is not individually shielded, then you'll get bleed, OBBM should be able to sort you a proper stereo cable, rather than a two core shielded, which you might have.
The Ric o sound is a proper rickenbacker version so the bass to ROS box lead is a hard wired stereo cable.. from there you have two outputs..one that takes the treble signal and one that tales the bass signal..I don't see that those leads need to be stereo...but the shielding might be important so thanks for that..I have had the ROS from new but have rarely used it and think that this might not be the best way to go, as in the future, I will be using different basses that won't have this function. So can anyone recommend a signal splitter that is up to the job using a standard mono cable.. Cheers

Hi all, I want to run a biamp system..one completely clean channel one covered in effects..I am using a Ric 4003 at the moment and am using the ric o sound to split the pickups into the 2 amps..however I am getting bleed from one to the other which is no good at all..so what is the best bit of kit two achieve this with no loss in volume to the 2 amps? And while I am here does anyone know if there should be bleed using a Ric o sound..or should the outputs be completely seperate? Thanks guys and girls

Thanks Indeed it is the one with heat sink..proper Trace..proper sound and all round a brilliant amp. I am only selling as, if you have come across me on the forum, I play in Hypermused, "The UK's leading Tribute band", and have just picked up a full Marshall DBS system ( the same kit that Chris Wolstenholme uses and quite rare these days) and I also have an Ashdown ABM EVO rig as well. I actually think that it is a waste when an amp is not being used and i really hope someone grabs it and uses it properly..and gets loads of pleasure from it.. Thanks for the bump....

This is a sad day for me as I have owned this from new. It has been gigged with the likes of Steve Winwood and all my bands from Metal through blues to funk, it has recorded at Abbey road and many other studios and it was the first amp that I ever bought that finally made my bass sound like all the pros' basses. But after 20 years of service, 15 as my main amp and then the rest as a back up practise amp, it is time to find a new home. The amp is a Trace Elliot Series 6 AH200 with GP12 preamp. It has pre and post eq DI. It has Pre shape and graphic switches. Active and passive inputs and a switchable noise gate that really works. The amp is in good overall cosmetic condition..there are marks to the covering ( see pic ), but all the sliders are good as are the knobs. No hissing, cracking all functions work as they should. It really is a sound amp. PLEASE NOTE...This amp has been serviced regardless of cost..and I mean that. It has just had a full overhaul at Inner ear in Oxford (£85.00) so it is ready to go. The only thing that is really wrong with it is at some time the covers to the main retaining screws on the top of the sleeve have disappeared..but they are only black plastic push in covers and If I can find some I will include them. I have quite a few hi res photos so I can email them to you if you PM me with your address. I am looking for around £250.00 and I can deliver to a 25 mile radius of Faringdon, Oxfordshire. The price is a bit negotiable but I am not desperate to sell and so offers would have to be close. I can take Paypal or cash..the latter preferred of course. Any trial welcome if you can get to me or I rehearse at Rotator Studios Oxford on a Wednesday night if you are around. Thanks

Your loud problem is interesting. As I said I have an AH200..slightly different but 200w RMS at 4 ohms. I bought it new in 1990..it came matched with an 8ohm 1510x cab..(still brilliant after all these years..) mine always promised much volume and never really delivered until abot 10 years ago..then I bought an Ashdown 4x10 ABM cab and paired it up with the Trace cab so the amp was actually being driven at 4ohms and oh my god what a difference..as they say double your cabs twice the volume..if you are only using one 8ohm rated cab you will never get the best out of it...Check the Ohms rating as you can get 4 OHM rated cabs as well..it is very important. If you were using a combo before you can guaruntee the speaker and amp were designed to work together at the correct OHMS and wattage..hence nicely balanced and powerful. A quick example..we supported Dogs D'Armour at a gig and I turned up, amp head and the 2 cabs...loud and large..their bass player turned up with some Trace 500w combo with a 15" speaker and nearly blew me off the stage...very interesting stuff.. Hope that helps ...oh and if anyone is interested I am about to put the Trace up for sale....see classifieds.

I'll try the effects return trick..hadn't thought of that. Yes it does have valve preamp and so that could be a problem.I will try and post the sound next week as I am away this weekend. The distortion is soft and fluffy sound almost like a bass version of a Kazoo !! it is not harsh or gritty in any way..dont know if that helps! Thanks
-
Running Ashdown ABM 300 EVO2 and while looking for a clean tone I am getting distortion on Ab ( On E string) ..not on G or A or even pounding out E's. tried the cab with other heads and no problem there..any idea what would cause distotion on such a specific frequency? Thanks

9 out of 10 sounds a bit high on the input. Not sure I have ever got that far up, unless you have a really low output bass. What are you using?
-
But I don't have a manual, so a few questions:

There are 2 inputs - are they different, for active & passive instruments, or both the same? They seem the same. No..A passive bass has a much lower input signal than and active and the inputs compensate for this. I have an AH200 and you do notice a difference and have to alter the input gain.
My bass is passive. I have to turn up the input gain pretty high to get the "OK" light to light. Is this normal?. You should plug your bass in, turn the output volume to zero and keep adding input untill you mainly get the green arrow with the very occasional foray to the red... I have a rickenbacker and run the input between 2 o clock and 3 o'clock to get the right input volume
When should I use the high fan speed setting and when is it OK to use the low? Can't answer that..the AH200 doesnt have a fan! Sorry. I would imagine that you would use the high speed when gigging and the low speed when recording..less hum..but I am just taking an educated guess
Is there a way to set the threshold for the noise gate? Not on mine..it's on or off. But it does work very well.
Does anyone know where I can get a manual? I've googled and hunted to no avail. I did find a full manual for the AH 200 on line but it is on an old PC and not sure I can access it..I will try for you, I think the amps are very similar.
Thats smart..I like that. Can you remember how much it cost..just to give me a rough idea. Thanks.

Hi I have an Ashdown ABM 300 Evo2 in a standard sleeve and I would like to use it in a rack mount system, as I run another head at the same time. I am also thinking about getting a rackmount effects unit as well and want them to house them all in one unit..anyone know if there is anything on the market that can adapt my amp for rack mount? Thanks

thanks i'll take a look
