Hi Chris Thanks. I have looked a BF cabs before but frankly I don't get paid enough gigging to justify the cost of two cabs. I have looked into the construct of their cabs as I am ( or was) a joiner so could easily make them but I know how much time and effort they have gone to to perfect their design...wouldn't feel right making copies. I do have iems and maybe I will have to go back to using them... I toured for years with them but really prefer to have on stage sound... I just feel more 'alive' on stage without them. I might speak to the guys at Bare faced and see what they can do.

Cheers Bill.....Ironically I did have the cab tilted on a massive wedge...I'd never done that before. I have thought about 2 x 10 stacked vertically just need some high headroom drivers. The sound guy did say that the drummers double bass drum set up sucked all the mids out... He was super helpful but he did all he could.

I've never really had an issue hearing myself on stage. I have some monster cabs that I have pretty much retired as they are too big/heavy for the car and most venues. I created a Frankenstein 2no...2 X10 cabs all housed in an old Ashdown ABM 4 x 10 cabinet and for pubs etc it works really well. It has 4 neo celestion speakers ..no problem with phase and it's so light and compact compared to my Marshall DBS cabs. I play in a rock/metal covers band but on Friday we giggled a local venue. I had my amp (crown xls 1500i running in two channel mode) flat out..dimed. my preamp pedals on the floor were running pretty hot and the floor wedge had run out of headroom.....and I couldn't hear what I was playing clearly... .the speakers were crying...despite their rating...300w each. They are pretty efficient. The whole thing was loud enough.... Just couldn't get the clarity out of the cab. At sound check I was running the system at about 75% and it sounded amazing..( normally does) but once the rest had got going I had to turn it up just to hear. I'm not a fan of in ears... I have them but trying to avoid them. I'm looking for speaker suggestions with enough Headroom that can deal with this. If you need more specs of my rig happy to get them. Anyone got any suggestions.... I told the two guitarists and drummer to turn down but they ignored me..😂 Cheers

He's currently president of the US mate...

You're very welcome... As I said in our DM's..I'm still learning the capabilities and ins and outs of my printer so really enjoyed the process.

Bizarrely my first thought was D... I did try it just sounded off...I didn't check with the lads later but they may have been in E flat standard... Either way it sounded awful... The fantastic thing now is we are thinking if getting some shirts made up with "Drummer says you're in the wrong key" they will never live it down...we are great mates but the banter will be brutal...😂😂
-
No...no more pedals for me..😂😂 I would definitely forget to change key... I did try and pick the key but I was struggling with on stage volume and just couldn't pick it. In the end we had a laugh about it .. but it does go to show technology is not always for the best.... 😁

Sat night we threw in Beat it (fall out boy version) played onec in soundcheck and then live..went down a storm... Both guitarists run Digitech drop pedals .once the crowd had stopped going nuts we launched into hallowed be they name ( our closer) So ..guitarist one starts, I play my low E, drummer triggers the bell.... I look at the drummer and say...are we in the right key? Second guitarist joined in...two guitarists nailing it...I'm so far off I literally have to stop playing....total panic ..I've forgotten what key...noo...can't have...... I look donn at guitarist ones pedals board and he hasn't reset the drop pedal to E standard .. and going on the fact guitarist 2 is playing bang on neither has he...so I leg over to G1 and point at his board..he realises changes to E standard now we are in sync but G2 is in the wrong key.. I've stopped playing by this point...G2 finally realises and resets drop pedal ...so I join back in ..by this time we are at the end of verse 1. Everyone thought it was my f*** up...so what would you have done? Stopped the song and start again...try and find the key they were playing in and basically transpose on the fly... Or just hurl your bass at the guitarists until they realised their mistake? Love to know what you think the lesser of the evils is in this situation?

If your playing the sort of tribute circuit...ie most venues have In house PA and Sound guys, I presume they are taking DI out from the Sansamp? What I do which I've found helps when I get to venues...when at home I run DIs from my preamp pedals ( well actually it's a two notes cab plus for my dirty channel and a straight preamp box for my clean) into a Daw ( or I also have a zoom h5 with XLR inputs which I use) and use, headphones, iems and my monitors to help get the best tone I can direct off the board ( no amp models etc in the daw..just straight in) ..that way I know I'm giving the FOH the best tones I can at venues.. As long as I'm happy being able to hear either backline or iems on stage I'm good. Admittedly you're at the mercy of the sound guy but then that's the case at most places we used to play in our tribute. Once I'm happy with my sound through the DI outs at home I just use the headphones out and aux in to rehearse new stuff direct from the two notes... I was advised not to rely on the headphone tone on preamp pedals ( does the Sansamp have one?) as it can differ from the DI tone...hence the faffing around with DAWs and dIs but it is definitely worth it. I get a decent amount of positive feedback on my tones now ....

This is the board at my feet at the mo... Covers all the classic rock/metal we play..and there isn't a pedal on there I don't use during our set, which is nuts... I made the Schmidt Array style 2 tier board a few years ago and it has been fantastic. Ignore all the spaghetti on the left...nothing to do with the board!!

There is a 3d file for a PRS custom on printables...can't get the measurements at the moment, but definitely the same shape..1 hole...I might print it out tonight...see what it looks like ..
-
Know anyone with a 3d printer...? If you have a mate with one it should be pretty quick to knock up the required 3d model (.STL) file I'm looking to do that with my Firebird as I need a replacement one. I'll have a look at the usual 3d print places in case there is already a file out there. I'd be more than happy to print one out for you if I can find the file.

Hi all Desperately need some help. At a gig about a month ago my filter pro stopped working ..horrible electrical burning smell...nearly cleared the pub. I took it apart to see if anything obvious was going on..the main cap was bulging so I bought a replacement.. the unit fired up for about 2 seconds..a pop near the transformer and dead again...the PCB looks ok..no burnt traces etc .. So the unit is not in my rack anymore awaiting surgery...anybody got any ideas what could be the issue and potential fixes or someone who could mend it ..I love it and will be gutted if it's dead Then on Sat night I was using the same rack and again the smell of burning electrical had the band looking at me again ..I thought my Crown power amp was going the same way...but it seemed to be working fine. Second question is this... Is it possible that the stink from the line 6 could have lingered in the crown amp and once it got hot it released the kraken, so to speak... I'm soak running the crown with no input at the moment and it seems fine...no smell but I'm now paranoid about burning kit...no do run the crown pretty much flat out...with it only clipping into the red occasionally... Is this too much maybe. .any less and I can't get over the drummer... Any help or guidance on this would be hugely appreciated...lots of gigs coming up and need stable reliable gear... Cheers all

Current bi amp rig for Rock/metal covers band... Laney takes care of the lows in a big way...rest runs fun stuff. Spark is a new addition simply to boost level for my P bass as its output is way lower than my Jazz and Dingwall. Would like to swap out Demon FX pedals for DG originals but simply don't have the cash...and from my research pretty much sound identical...maybe one day. Apollo 2 phaser is a staggering pedal on guitar or bass. Totally nails that Lizzy Alibi tone.... Chorus lands well for Sweet child of mine... B7k clone is set with low drive and really gets me the Harris clack along with p bass and flats. Octave used conservatively on Land of confusion ( disturbed) and lay down your love (Whitesnake) really thickens sound. Sheehan pedal ( my fav) for all the Mr Big/ winery dogs stuff... I am trialling the Joyo battery power supply with this. No issues with charge times..it runs this lot for 4 hours plus... But to reduce anxiety levels at gigs I charge it in the gap between sets... No cables ..no ground loops... No earthing issues.. and cheap...and if you don't like it use it as a battery charger for your phone..it has usb out! I ditched my George Ls to try Harley Benton solderless patch cables ..unbelievable value and am running 3 boards without a single issue ..the sockets are super compact as well. Have recommended to loads of people without issue...

He's a talented lad... But not sure he has realised......he used to front our Muse tribute so he can hit some pretty high notes... .. he breezes the Maiden/acdc stuff we do in this new band
-
Make no mistake it is an utter pain.. I generally just use my jazz with hipshot xtender ...it gets me through most stuff... I have a back up bass and an explorer purely for the Taking Dawn cover. If I'd known the guitarist was going to transpose GTFO I would have done the same thing...detuned...learnt it and then returned to standard with the band. It's what I did with the DC, Lizzy and Queen stuff they play that is either slowed down on the record or played in Eb. Never mind....
-
I've learnt the tune in Eb using standard tuning with drop D. I could shift everything up a semi tone but in my considerable experience I know that, having run through the track over 20/30 times, I will make mistakes live.... I have been down this road before. We play taking Dawn's version of The Chain.... I have played the chain so many times over the last 20 years that the muscle memory is so ingrained I really struggle to change finger positions so I have a bass tuned to G just for that track. Also I have about 15 songs to learn for our next gig and don't really have the time to re learn GTFO a fret higher.....if it was a simple AC/DC song it would be different but there are numerous parts to this bass line for me to mess up. 😁
-
Yes that's exactly it ... Which is a pain for me as learnt it as per record so my fingering is now going to be flat or more likely I will have to take another bass tuned up a half step.... And it with this bass that I will belt him over the head repeatedly until I feel justice is done. 😂😂
-
Nope...the confusion lies because he's old and senile and has too many strings on his guitar.... He deserves all the mocking I can throw at him as I have known him for years and he keeps suggesting songs to do in E flat and constantly forgets to tell me at practice that he is playing it in standard tuning....😂😂..... Git......
-
Ladies and gents thanks for the answers and making me smile. My assumption, with my admittedly limited theory knowledge was , of course. I believe it would transpose from E flat major to E major in this case. .... His arguement was that as the fingering hadn't altered it was considered detuning rather than transposing... I love the old boy and he can now keep his theory and focus on his solo in GTFO. ..... Which he will absolutely nail because he is a hell of a guitarist.... Thanks all for the ridiculously smug smile on my face ...bass players rule
-
Hi Hopefully just a quick one... If a guitarist learns a song with their guitar detuned to E flat to match a record (in this case Get the funk out by Extreme) and then re tunes to standard 440 to play live, and plays exactly the same chord shapes, have thy effectively altered the key? Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can put this to rest for me. Thanks

Do you work for Google? All of my recent searches have been Crown xls1002 so I find your post slightly disturbing...😂😂😂😉 Wasn't sure if it would work well enough as I believe these are mainly hifi based but they do get great reviews. I did come across one guy who was using the crown to power his axe FX guitar rig.... The Axe took some tweaking but it sounded great into his 2 x12. Let me check the specs on your unit and I'll pm you.
-
Sound tweaking heaven right there. But like me the oh the weight...😂😂. I know my 4 10 split cab probably shouldn't work as well as separates but either by dumb luck or listening to the advice Celestion have me it sounds really good and I can lift it with one arm.. and it's footprint is ideal for smaller venues.
-
Thanks bolo.... I have an LS2 that I used to use to split an already split signal when doing the Muse tribute...it's a pedal no bassist should be without in my opinion..esp if you run multiple effects and need to blend.. But it still doesn't sound the same as 2 amps/ 2 cabs iny experience..Options I am looking at are standalone power amp... Or funnily enough I was thinking about the Ampegs/ little Mark route. ... Glad I am heading in the right direction. Thanks for your input...it's really appreciated.
