I use a dual amp set up and despite many years using OD , distortion and fuzzes I have never had issues with feedback. At home I run my pedals into logic and never have issues no matter how loud but in rehearsal rooms I struggle to quell feedback when using Sheehan drive deluxe pedal. I do set the dirty amp up with a slight mid hump ( I need to to bring out the harmonics like Billy does) but I do that in logic as well...I have tried reducing amp gain and lifting amp volume, reducing amp volume and increasing level out from pedal, massively reducing level out from pedal and increasing master volume on the amp so I can mix it with the clean amp..but am still struggling... it's ok as long as I face away from the amps but it is still hovering... I think I am being dumb somewhere here so any advice on the correct approach would be great Thanks

We used to do it... thought it was a fantastic song..we also did Fury and Glorious ( which I bloody love) but they never went down particularly well

Stockholm...New Born and Butterflies and Hurricanes not sure my right hand ever recovered...now doing Sheehan stuff...gone from the sublime to the ridiculous... People always used to Wow at Hysteria but I always found it relatively easy to play but if I even stopped for a second to think about what i was doing in New Born my left hand would almost instantly cramp up...especially during the long section in the middle...tough song...got easier after 2 gigs every weekend for 4 years ...but still... Great tunes though..still miss it.

Bass Guitar on The Repair Shop BBC 1 now
Dudgeman replied to steantval's topic in General Discussion
Funily enough my old business partner works on the show and gave me a heads up..( he does the silverwork and repaired a camera on the show) I jokingly said to him "should have given it to me to do" Then watched it and wished he had. I agree adding new hardware wasnt necessary and re shaping the neck that much...very brave or a bit stupid. The thing that I found most interesting was that I think it came in unbadged ( in fact it did..just checked my recording) and left with a Fender decal on it.....Now I could be wrong but that binding looked awfully like the binding on the Japanese copies of the era...although I did see a serial and F on the neck plate...just made me chuckle....! -
No Stew that was me! How are you?? I also played in a full on Muse tribute for about 5 years. Hysteria started out as a clean channel and a big muff in the early days (ok) moved on to Big muff and Animato but missed the clean...then expanded to Animato, big muff blended (ls2) and a clean channel...Huge sound. Then we started playing to a click so I added a prerecorded synth bass to the bass mix..and that was as close as I have ever heard. Playing to a click really helped the groove...too easy to play too fast. Uprising..PIB and knights were always crowd favourites. Loved the challenge of replicating Chris' tones but it all got a bit silly towards the end..once the Misa Kitara came onto the scene I thought "enough now" lol....

Thats a tasty board for me... love all those pedals.
-
Your welcome...lol...

You can still get some massive sounds with 2 channels and dont forget that if you have pedals with a clean out..(like the EHX Octaver or a Bass Synth wah) you can run a clean signal direct to the desk giving you a completely clean channel... easy way to get a third channel if its just you and drums....
-
It's all gone too far! Basically a 3 channel rig that started life as a Muse rig...now I am back to 2 bass channels and one faux guitar channel...i guess think Royal blood. For those interested signal chain is P bass mid pickup.... tuner....lehle...to CH1...pitch fork with exp pedal (love this on bass and guitar)...T rex bloody Mary (seriously underrated)..Boss Os2. (Fantastic in a mix)..mxr micro chorus...Nobels trem....alesis reverb/delay rack (would like to change this for timeline/grand Canyon/dispatch master etc) ..out to Peavey Valve king.. (this gets guitar tone with octave up but flipping octave back to unity with exp pedal adds extra grunt when needed) CH2 from lehle ...Boss oc2.....animato (yum) ..big muff...sheehan deluxe drive (hell of a pedal) with ls2 in gain loop to blend in some crunch when clean...BMC (does a thing esp if you want mids boosted funily enough)...spectracomp....out to Marshall 7400 CH3 neck Pick up (woofer PU) on my adapted P Bass...Way huge green rhino (love this pedal) ....bass balls.(lol)..Big muff...FM pro rack..(love this) .EHX octave....prunes and custard..(great odd distortion sounds).. second Marshall 7400. P bass has 2 outputs. Board Works great as i like to play some G**tar as well.... if i plug guitar in to main input on board the signal splits through the lehle giving me the option to use wet/dry rig when recording. Downsides are power supplies and sheer weight...but sounds great from Sheehan to Motown .. looks good at night...lol

Thanks...Will be trying that later. Took me ages to hook the board up so the least removal of pedals the better!

So if it was a voltage build up being released would the lehle dc filter not take care of the problem? I suppose I can try the switcher into the bass amp and see if it still does it. Is there a simple way of testing each pedal to see if there is an "issue" pedal in the chain without physically removing it....or does the fact that the popping occurs when both loops are activated lead to there being a larger problem than just a single pedal? Thanks so much for the advice so far...

Hi all I run a Lehle dual to split my signal to two different loops that exit to 2 different amps. I have used this for years with no issues. I recently changed my board around ..in loop A from lehle I have ehx pitchfork ..T rex bloody Mary...boss Os2 ..mxr micro chorus and a nobels trem running into Alesis microverb3 out to Peavey valve king...(using octave up on PF to add guitar tone) loop B goes BSW...Animato..big muff...Sheehan drive.. spectra comp...amp. Everytime I activate the loops on lehle I get a loud pop through guitar amp..I did research and thought this might be a voltage build so bought a Lehle dc filter... I have tried it everywhere but it doesnt seem to help. The popping happens whether there is a bass plugged in or not and it happens whether I activate A...B or both...the popping only comes through guitar amp...not bass amp! Both loops have individual power bricks but they are daisy chains (same as used before with absolutely no issues)and I have also tried running a completely seperate power supply to the lehle...didn't make any difference either. I have contacted lehle but haven't heard back yet. Anyone got any ideas? When it is all activated it sounds absolutely awesome but I dont need the guitar amp all the time...just used behind guitar solos and on some of the more riff based stuff we are doing.. but I cant use it live as the pop is that loud Anyone got any ideas on how i can track down the issue or resolve...thanks and a happy New Year to you all.

That's a great explanation ....thanks. I knew it was ghosts all along! -
Help needed with utterly bizarre sound problem

I like the fact that, despite some awesome musicians in my band, it is only the bassist that can can summon the sound demon through witchcraft and magic... maybe its not science after all..... bass ruuuuules.! -
Help needed with utterly bizarre sound problem

No tear in the speaker.....the only thing that was wrong was the defectective soldering on the cable to the speaker that had come loose... it really was most bizzare and would love to know the science behind it. -
Help needed with utterly bizarre sound problem

So it is possible for the speaker to make sound just from the effect of frequency of an E note? High or low ? Just because the speaker is in the room....how freaky is that! -
So rehearsing tonight in a very well equipped rehearsal room. Every time I hit a low E one of the wall mounted pa speakers made a bizzare stuttering sound...The owner and ourselves wondered if any of you guys could help explain it. So no other frequency set it off...just high E or low E... we thought it might be a weird ground loop so we turned the speaker down....still did it ..so we unplugged it..it still did it....totally disconnected it still did it... it was a very audible sound...not a rattle ... Owner dismantled the speaker and one of the soldered connections had come loose to the speaker...but it still doesn't explain how a completely passive disconnected speaker makes sound based on the frequency of an E note.. Can anyone explain how this happens...it had us all stumped...cheers

Worst bass you've ever played that you did not own.
Dudgeman replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
For me.. and it seems a lot of us...it comes down to set up. I bought a Mexican jazz off here which I completely overhauled to Candy tangerine (its in build diaries) thanks to a great initial..and subsequent set up by me...Its superb. Based on my experience of how good this is I went to Dawsons to try US 5 strings to match...tried 5...hated 5. Sticky necks...too much Poly...poor quality and totally uninspiring ...i was actually quite upset!!... I also have a 4003 Rickenbacker which I want to love so much as my wife bought it for me as one of those bucket list things..i waited 20 years to own one. But every bit of finish is sharp...the C shape baseball bat neck was unplayable until I stripped all the laquor off the back... It is a blue one and all of the paint bled into the laquor over the white bindings...then the laquor started flaking off...so have removed it from the neck..the whole thing is soooo poor we even took it in to get it verified as real (internet purchase....never ever again) where it was confirmed as real and then I was blamed for the laquor for not cleaning my hands when playing...sweat thing apparently...what BS! The neckshapes are better on the new ones imo...problem is..using Ric o sound bi amped it sounds bloody amazing...but will never gig it. Too much like hard work. They say never meet your heroes... -
Hi New project but up and running..we have bass..drums...guitar and singer. Already rehearsing. Looking for a keyboard/ hammond style player. We are covering....SRV.....Bonamassa..Winery Dogs...Mr Big...Chickenfoot...Whitesnake (maybe) amongst others. Rehearsing in Swindon and Witney areas...will be gigging this as soon as we can... If you can play some guitar as well it would be a bonus but not a necessity. Pm me if your interested...easy going band but all committed...or perhaps need to be going on some of the stuff we are playing... lol Get in touch. Cheers Carl

Haha...yes was a touch happy about it...it sounded great...

If you were stood in front of me I could have kissed you for that logic link..wow..definitely a phase issue there...the bass sounds amazing now in DAW.. still yet to try on amps. Will do at next rehearsal... I am hoping this is a DAW/interface issue then and not the bass..although i have been loooking at wiring diagrams for 4 cable jazz PU's (there arent many) to make sure i havent missed something.. i have found some for hot stack PUs but then i need to know where the different coloured wires correspond too on the pick up! I only have one other issue that I am really struggling with and have done tons of research...at the moment it seems my m audio interface is direct minitoring and software monitoring at the same time causing the playing in a small room effect... It never used to do this and i cant seem to work out how to turn off direct monitoring...its all such fun...lol Thank you for all your help over these threads..been invaluable..... cant wait to try this beast of a bass out at next rehearsal.... snarly gnashy thing that it is....

Hi I have modded my precision bass to have a jazz pick at the neck ..both pick ups have their own jacks and independant wiring..right down to the grounds. The new install is volume only..no tone pot...the original wiring for the P bass PU, volume and tone is unchanged. My problem is if I run both PUs into logic (pro 8) on sepatate channels (m audio 410 firewire) i lose nearly all the bottom end..like there is a phasing issue. If i just have the volume up on the original PU i get the familiar P bass sound. If i just run the neck pickup there is plenty of low end from the jazz pickup. I have yet to try the set up with my amps (there may be no issue) I cant work out where the low end has gone using audio interface and logic....especially as both circuits on the bass are totally independant. I am trying to work out if there is an issue with the bass...the interface...my sound card...logic....anyone got any preliminary thoughts as to what may be occuring....thanks

Hi Happy to help out if i can. Now based just outside Swindon... I have done major and minor mods...I dont have a woodwork shop set up at the moment but do still have the gear so its worth asking. Happy to do various re finishes..some woodwork alterations.(sky would have been the limit if i still had my workshop) Wiring ...to a point...pick up replacements...soldering..set up...re fretting most necks...de fretting... fret dressing...re levelling...crowning..neck shimming..etc. I will be straight up and honest about my ability and comfort zone..have done loads of stuff for friends and myself. There are a couple of build diaries on here...candy tangerine jazz bass...les paul bass overhaul and re finish. I have just finished a complete overhaul refinish and upgrade of a dire Warwick streamer bass that I need to upload as well. Drop me a PM . Cheers Carl

Hi..thanks again I had already sorted it. I soldered ground to ground and hot to yellow at one end...this only gave me output to one side (which i still cant quite understand going on the way it is wired) so i fabricated a 4 wire loom..and hooked up all 4 corners..so 2 hot and 2 ground and its working a treat! It is now all back together and ready for melting some faces!!! This is not up to my usual high luthering standards (!) but i needed to get it up and running quick to see if the principle worked. Almost looks stock. First issue is that i will need to eq the jazz PU as it is very bright compared to the PBass PU despite its position next to the neck. It is only there for deepness...this all started as we are covering Mr Big and the Winery dogs in a new band..but i also need to be able to run it without Mr Sheehans rather good distortion pedal for the Bonamassa/SRV stuff we are also doing. It will be run biamped hence the 2 jacks.. Thanks for your help though...wouldnt have been brave enough to dive in with the wiring without your help...
