1. Can I suggest you avoid Gator cases..bought an Ibanez K5 Fieldy sig when they first came out and expected a hard case with it...didn't even get a gig bag..so bought a gator case from the store while there..the retaining lid strap has fallen off and the moulded inside has come adrift from the outer casing and the outer casing is made of a thin plastic which is probably too rigid and thin for air travel...basically its a pile of sh*te...I am usually really careful with what I buy but this has been one of my biggest regrets with regards to bass stuff.
2. bump..these are still up for sale / trade. cheers
3. Bass orientated track that I wrote the other day...no guitar just bass and keys mulitracked. First draft so definitely a work in progress...got some more ideas but would love some feedback from fellow bass players...nothing like Muse at all... http://soundcloud.co...mused/ethernet2
4. New to soundcloud so Muse and personal stuff can be found here http://soundcloud.com/hypermused/ Breakdown of my Plug in Baby bass sound...bit of chill out dance...MOTP backing track...hopefully interesting stuff aimed at bass players and Muse fans.
5. Top advice...thanks. So stick with the 12AX7.....so whats the difference between all the brands..Is it a "get what you pay for" scenario here or will they all sound different. I am not precious about this as I am now using Marshall gear but the Ashdown is a back up and it could be interesting to learn more in case the Tubes go in the Marshalls. Thanks again
6. I have done a touch of research and thought that was the one. Is it best to replace like for like or is there a better alternative?
7. haha wish I could its in the rack at the moment among all my other gear...I'll have to pull it out tomorrow and take a look. In the meantime does anyone know what it is supposed to be? Cheers
8. I know nothing about Tubes (apart from the geezer on Soccer AM..;-) ) apart from the fact mine isn't working properly so I need a replacement. Can you give me some advice. Looking for a solid reliable tube...I hate Chinese made stuff but if that is my only option then so be it. Don't mind a bit of growl...just have no idea where to start. Any help gratefully received ta.
9. I get really squeamish over £600...lol. But then I am a joiner/cabinet maker by trade and know a bit about veneers, costs of wood and time taken on stuff and have made a few guitars in my time..including an ally top Manson replica for our frontman.. I gig all over the place and very regularly..I am currently making a Rickenbacker/fender hybrid in Yew, maple and oak as I own a 4003, build quality is crap and Rickenbacker CS sucks In my experience, but I love the Iconic shape and I also have a MIM jazz deluxe which walks all over the Ric in tones and playability. So I am using EMG JP Actives a precision neck and the body I have made in the shape of a ric. It will be beautiful and will probably never see a stage....and therein lies the problem for me. If I spent over £1500 on a bass I wouldn't want it anywhere near a crowd...too scared of damaging it. The stages we play aren't high enough generally to keep everything safe.....it scares the hell out of me having a pedal board in front of me with £1600 worth of effects sat on it...cold sweats..lol But can you put a price on beauty? I also have an American Strat that cost me few quid....now I am nowhere near the guitarist as I am bass player but every time I look at it I genuinely think there has never been a better design for a guitar..it is absolutely perfect from every angle..Its art and I love it. If you can afford something that inspires you to play then it has to be worth it..as long as the children aren't going hungry...;-)
10. Trace pictures here... http://i918.photobuc...ce/tracecab.jpg http://i918.photobuc...racecloseup.jpg http://i918.photobuc...racespeaker.jpg http://i918.photobuc...cebackpanel.jpg http://i918.photobuc...cebackpanel.jpg Open to cash offers as well....
11. I have these two cabs for sale/trade. Both have new Celestion drivers fitted within last 2 years but have been used only as back up as I have gone over to Marshall. The Trace is a rare beast that I have owned from new. You can run it as a single 15 and 10 cab at 8 Ohms or there is a panel on the back where you can split the two drivers for bi-amping. The main driver has been uprated to a 400w Celestion driver though the original cab was 300w rated. I still have the original trace speaker, not sure if it is working..I swapped for new speaker as the old one was buzzing at certain frequencies..turned out to be the amp!! so it might well be ok. Couldn't take the risk as I was gigging a lot. Both are in gigged condition..the Ashdown bearing the brunt on the tolex..which is frankly not great i also need to get 2 retaining plastic nuts for the Ashdown inputs..but they will be there for sale....The Ashdown has the more retro cloth cover which is fine and looks great. I will glue the tolex back for sale but the scars are there to see. The Trace's tolex is pretty well held down everywhere...the corner protectors are rusted and there are a couple of grazes. I have photos which I will post tonight. The green lettering is worn as well. I am painting a grim picture but I like to be over cautious with descriptions. Fact is they are both great cabs and I used to use them together and they sounded brilliant. I don't mind cash offers ( region of £140 ea) but I would like to swap if possible for any of the following.. I am looking for LIne 6 FM 4 (swap 1 cab) Prunes and Custard (swap 1 cab) Marshall B150 (need a practise amp and something for stage as well) (Swap 1 cab) another Boss OC 2 + cash (1 cab) Electrix filter factory (swap 1 cab) Marshall 7400 head (swap both cabs) I can deliver as well...but PM me for details. I'll also take constructive feedback re pricing....Cheers
12. Nice one..I got involved in a bit of vid editing over Christmas so am Happy overlaying audio to suit video and I think that is what we will do. Get the best picture we can and sort the audio out separately
13. Just thought I would do a follow up post after a year on the road with the MIM jazz deluxe. Basically I love it. The previous owner had spent a fair bit of time fettling to get an ultra low action which has really helped my playing technique and can now nail those really fast persistent notes in Stockholm syndrome. It works brilliantly with my DBS rigs to produce a great tone and variety. I use it at home when teaching through a Peavey 212 guitar amp and can almost nail a geddy sound and funk and slap and on and on..such a versatile pallet of tones. Downside..the E saddle keeps dropping ??? WTF that is about I have no idea..but I am going to replace with a Hipshot or similar.any thoughts? Also the tuning pegs have to be changed..they hold tune OK but when the strings are loose they are all over the place and one of the tuning pegs screw holes need sorting..screws come loose. Also the control knobs have started spinning and the grub screws aren't holding properly. You think they use the same gear as on the American versions..dream on! But it was cheap..the Bartolinis sound fantastic. With an upgrade of the hardware and the change of colour that is happening in February it will be perfect.
14. I spoke to the guy and he reckoned that the power adapter was broken/dodgy. Funnily enough he was selling a few other bits of synth stuff so it was his area..now, and I might be wrong, but if you have one of these then surely you would have a fair idea of worth..and what does a replacement PU cost £20.....dontcha think you might try that before selling for under half what they seem to be making, especially as it had box and manual with it.....hmmm stopped me bidding for sure..lol...But then someone might have got a bit of a bargain. Lets see if anyone sticks their hand up and admits to being a twat or scoffs at the rest of us for the steal of 2012 so far.
15. There was one on Ebay the other day,,not working for spares and repair.. It made £285 i think...
16. Thanks..been away gigging and just come back to this. We did some videoing at a gig with our drummers new proper sony HD camcorder using external condenser mics..but I am still not happy with it..too much picture noise and not enough definition even in HD..i really like the little zoom..have checked out a load of videos and the audio is nearly always good..very rounded with plenty of bottom end and virtually no distortion... I think re vid it just needs lots of good lighting...
17. Look at the Lehle stuff. It is beautifully built and in my opinion some of the best stuff on the market. It won't be £15 but then if you are doing tv you should have the budget to stretch to proper professional kit. Trust me you won't regret spending the money. I use the Lehle dual live and it is bulletproof.
18. CRez didn't I see somewhere you already have 2? Is that something I have just made up? lol
19. RE Hysteria..It is not totally correct Muse Fanism, I know exactly how the sound is achieved (because I am a fanatic hence playing in a full on Muse tribute) and having said that I am moving on, there are enough discussions and threads on this...... But re the Deep impact the price is what it is..The one on Ebay Made £350..I reckon thats a fair "ish" price, gutted for the seller..never like to see a fellow bass player fall on hard times and for him I wish it made £650 but for me for the future maybe I can own one of these at that sort of money, certainly more of a prospect than at £650 ...lol
20. I can't believe the prices these that are being asked for these now..especially in these times. People are mad. There are 3 on Ebay at the mo for £650.. One of them is on it's 3rd listing so presumably no one is buying at that price...It can't be Muse fanism because if you are buying this pedal to sound like Chris you don't know your arse from your elbow and you will be sorely disappointed. I do genuinely wish you all the luck in the world and if I had one for sale it would love the thought that I would get £650 plus for it but I play in a full on Muse tribute and don't have one..and more importantly don't have any need for one in a 2 hour set. It is a great pedal and as a bass player I would love one of these...but Rare?? do me a favour there's at least one or two on Ebay every week at the moment. They crop up with monotonous regularity...Just to put this price in perspective I believe the RRP was $120..lol! That being said all the best with the sale.....and to think 3 years ago I missed one from a dealer for £60 by 12 hours
21. or use a decent vid camera and let the zoom take care of the sound.....shimples....
22.
Very impressive. Looks like there's always a very decent amount of stage light. It'd be nice to see some footage from someone other than the manufacturer. Did you find any? YouTube conversions won't introduce artefacts in my experience - it's pretty faithful. The Amazon reviews are worth a read through http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoom-Q3HD/dp/B004DIL50Y
I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeWk996-SDA he has a couple of others up..listened to it through my skull candy IE buds,,you get a real sense of the bass and general feel of the concert..I've seen Rammstein live and this brought it all back. I came accross this as well but my Internet conection won't stream it properly in 1048 and I can't be bothered waiting for the constant buffering...good sound again though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qk7TEF7IUk&feature=fvsr but visuals aren't great...good enough for youtube though.
23. Took a look at the zoom on you tube..the audio quality is really good.. It reminds me of the quality you get with the little stereo mic that Sony used to make...perhaps still do. There is a fantastic side by side comparison with a couple of other HD cameras of a guy playing an acoustic guitar but I noticed quite a lot of blocking going on..especially on the backdrop where there was just a large section of solid colour..is this the quality of the vid or something that happens when you upload to youtube? There is some great footage of Rammstein that a bloke had taken live that was so much more impressive than other fan shot footage...looks like a good bit of kit. Will definitely take a look.
24. I have to admit the stage was not well lit and I think in a big gig situation I would have got better results..all a learning curve. The photos I took around the house and of my little one with the 1.2 were amazing RE;Recording live...I would like to take a feed from the desk and use ambient sound and try to merge the two if possible. I think the layering would be really interesting. Most of the venues we play DI both of my bass heads but tend to only use the clean channel to boost the bottom end relying on the stage set up to push the effected sound..it is a pet hate of mine but whenever I have heard ambient recordings both bass channels have been well balanced...will take a look on youtube and see what I can find. We once had a dep harmonica player in a 9 piece soul band..he turned up with a little Sony camcorder and just stuck it in the middle of our rehearal on a tripod..I could not believe the quality of the sound on the cd he gave us...picture was shocking though..but the sound quality was genuinely astonishing.
25. I shot a load of bands at a mini indoor festival a couple of weekends ago with my 10d and a Canon 50mm 1.2L Lens..had to keep the ISO at 1600 to get fast enough shots and didn't like the noise results at all. Ended up playing with them all in PS to make them more interesting. You'll see what I mean if you go to facebook search "Dev ilsadvocate" and check out my public photos...
