1. Just the Way You Are, Barry White version. Miles and miles better than Billy Joel's original. Also, Cassandra Wilson's version of Shelter from the Storm by Dylan. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that Dylan's songs are almost always better when done by other people. Controversy? Perhaps.
2. Amen to that. I'd love a Schroeder to go with, but time will tell. Anyone know if there's anywhere in Newcastle stocks MB stuff? Thinking of a 210 to keep me going...

5. How is the 210 traveller at handling a B string? Does it deliver when it gets that low?
6. Just been in Music Ground, chatting to them. Turns out Adey was offered a job at MG, then went to his employers at SC, told them what he'd been offered and asked what they'd offer him by way of competition. They turned round and told him to sling his hook. Not the way to run a business, summarily sacking people who've been around doing good work for 17 years...
7. Curses. Better start saving, then.
8. Drums - it's so hard to find a really good drummer. It's like there's an absence of people between alright-but-not-great and session players.
9. Has anyone ordered direct from the States? With a 1212 costing about $800 but over £700, I can't help wondering if it would be bargainous to get one shipped in...

Yamaha OC-01

That's a start, but not the interesting response I was hoping for. Any more?
11. True dat - where are you?

Yamaha OC-01

I bought one of these years ago, an absolute chunk of 80s, Japanese effect pedal. Sounds good, fairly primitive tracking (I think it might have originally been for guitars) but an interesting sound. I've used it as an unusual distortion sound, among other things. Thing is, I've never seen another one. Anyone know anything about them?
13. No, I'm not bragging... I seem to recall a thread on these a while back, probably an earlier site incarnation. Anyine used one? Do they really make you stronger as their advertising suggests? Any good for us bass players? Which is the best model to start off with? Oh, and if anyone wants to post high scores, go ahead.
14. Some photos are attatched. Sorry they're not the greatest quality, unfortunately my camera is awful. They do show it's good nick, having lived in the case (also shown) all its life.
15. Jaco & Don Alias - some great work for Joni, among other things.
16. Pat Metheny, Joe Zawinul, or George Clinton.
17. FOR SALE: 1 Hartke HA4000 head inside a Westfield 2U rack case. I've had this head for a couple of years now, but haven't used it much due to being out of the country. I'm at a point now where I don't see myself using it much on the near future, and need to downsize for reasons of space and capital. Therefore, I offer it to anyone who wants it. It has several good tech features including the Mute All button on the front panel, which mutes everything except the Tuner Out on the rear panel, as well as the impressive array of outputs to drive PAs and other stuff I've not had much call for. Pre- and post-eq Direct Outs, a useful ground lift switch, footswitch connectivity etc. However, its real strength is in its sound. I've always found it to be excellent, powerful and focused, and the amount of tone control it offers is excellent. You can adjust almost any frequency you want - I've used it with many different basses, new and old strings, at home, in t'studio and live, with big bands, jazz trios, funk bands and metal bands, and have always been able to get a great tone with very little fuss. I've paired it with 10s and 15s, and not had any complaints. Power: 400W RMS into 4 Ohms 290W RMS into 8 I'll put some photos if anyone asks. It's in great condition, but the case has the kind of light wear and tear you might expect after three years. I've not seen many of them on the second-hand market or eBay, so I'm not exactly sure of its value. So, £200 ono?
18. I've also noticed how good Ibanez EQs are in comparison to competitors'. I have a BTB405, and it's a good bass made very good by its EQ. It lets you take a great sound everywhere you go, regardless what amp you're using. By comparison, I've always found Fender's to be more than a little woeful, suddenly making a massive tone shift with very little gradation.
19. Y Indifferent (it's always a size/sound trade-off) 39kg Y Y N Y N Y Y
20. Ooh, I had one of those Cobras as my second ever amp. Hilariously ill-defined tone, no high mids or treble to speak of. Great for dub or walking bass, terrible for anything else. But such fragrant, happy memories. I've not seen one for years - are they still being used out there?
21. I could do, but given as I don't have a job myself I think I'll pass for now. Anyway, that's not quite what I mean. I was just thinking of a list of online shops: basscentre.com, thomann.de/gb, etc etc etc. This is mainly prompted by having lost all my favourites in Firefox recently, and therefore not being able to find shops I've browsed in the past. Just thought it might be useful.
22. Surely somewhere we cold have a list of internet equipment shops we collectively recommend? I'm sure we've all found useful continental websites that offer gear at lower prices han one can find in the UK, and it'd be great to have a decent list to work from when seeking out the cheapest price possible when you're GASing. It'd be a hell of a lot better than trawling Google without any idea whether the site you've found is kosher or not.
23. In my experience, it really comes down to practice and experience. I find it better to nail the bass part so I stop concentrating so much on it, and then gradually work in the singing. Are you dong BVs or lead?
24. I think, like a few people, I'm somewhere between a one and a two. I've done nothing but sight-read for a long while now, and the truth is that first reading I read a bar a time, picking out the chord so I can essentially improvise within the harmony (if I'm walking, that is). I ususally aim to have it totally nailed by third or fourth reading, though I shan't dey it can take longer than that on a not irregular basis. Is it useful? Damn straight: what's more, there's little more satisfying than knowing you've hit everything on the page, especially while the guitars plough gamely one without a clue of what's happeneing.
